Smells Like TeenSpirit is a pretty killer opening to Nevermind. Sets the tone, draws you in, and still sounds incredibly unique 20+ years and 1,000,000+ imitators later.
Nirvana's debut album was Bleach in 1989 on indie label Sub Pop. Nevermind was their first album for the 'major' Geffen organisation in 1991. The allegedly vast signing on fee alienated the group from some noisy jealous twonks who like to prattle about artistic integrity but some 50 million (and counting) album sales later Geffen's ROI must have been substantial, to say nothing of Cobain's writing royalties.
Opeth - In Mist She Was Standing (Orchid) Amon Amarth - Ride For Vengeance (Once Sent From The Golden Hall) Swallow The Sun - Through Her Silvery Body (The Morning Never Came) Grant Lee Buffalo - The Shining Hour (Fuzzy) Korpiklaani - Wooden Pints (Spirit Of The Forest) Moonsorrow - Ukkosenjumalan Poika (Suden Uni) Skyclad - The Sky Beneath My Feet (The Wayward Sons Of Mother Earth) Tool - Intolerance (Undertow)
