Us 4 shots of which none were on target. Sunderland 11 shots of which 3 were on target. A point was more than we deserved.
The concern will be how quickly LB can make them a team. We do not have an underpin of players that have played together especially in midfield and up front and this is worse than any other season in living memory not just because of the number of signings but because of a lack of pre season.
I hope I’m wrong but I don’t think signings necessarily fix our issues. Our biggest problem is we have no identity or style of play.
We change formation 2-3 times a game, we’ve got square pegs in round holes and a lot of the team are a bit pedestrian. The biggest factor in our promotion last time wasn’t necessarily individual quality, it’s that everyone knew their jobs and was given ample time to learn how Bowyer wants to play. Every game it seems like we’re winging it.
I have every faith in Bowyer but it just seems we’re in for a season of transition - just in time for the record breaking title win next year.
Lucky not to have been three or four down at half time.
Very little threat to Sunderland's goal until Chuks and Maddy made their appearances.
Four shots at goal (none on target) at home is appalling.
Still, a point gained with the current state of our squad.
Thank goodness the next match in bandit country has been called off so we've now got a fortnight to get some more players in and sort out a coherent game plan and a viable Plan B because today was painful to watch.
Mentions in dispatches: Ben Amos and Akin Famewo, without whom we'd have been looking at a massive and demoralising defeat.
Let’s see where we are at around Chrimbo time,we will be getting new bods in & the ones we have got will get fitter & stronger & then it’s a case of the players gelling...gee there is some pretty bad wrist slitting on here...yeah we were absolutely shite, but so what we will get better...now if I were Sunderland then I fear for them if they couldn’t beat us today on our showing..chill TS,LB,JJ & Gallen will sort it...
Definitely some positives. Amos back to his best and Famewo looks like a great addition. Oshilaja looks a lot better at RB too.
Oshilaja looks comfortable at this level.
At right back.
I wouldnt even say he looked that comfortable there. In the second half a remember a couple of easy misplaced passes (to be fair that's endemic of our whole team), but what's worse is I've never seen a defender at bad at defending a high or bouncing ball, he gets leant into and out muscled so easily.
Negatives: we looked absolute shite, passing was generally awful and we created nothing,
Positives: Decent point against a side who will be in the top 6, clean sheet, Millwall and Palace both lost and if he didn't know it already, TS will have seen today that this side needs some serious reinforcements.
Poor performance, it says something that despite playing against 10 men for 20 minutes, I'm still happy with a draw
Toothless up front until Aneke came on, and vulnerable down the flanks to Sunderland attacks. Vennings was fine, but Levitt was very poor. I REALLY hope there isn't a clause in his contract that he has to play, as on today's performance he doesn't deserve to be ahead of Morgan. Doughty and Watson were both adequate rather than special
Amos had a good match, as did Famewo
Sunderland will be wondering how they didn't win, but then I wasn't especially impressed with them either. 4 goals in 4 games shows their problem
Crap all round, and really hard to watch. I understand it was going to be a struggle with only one up top, losing Bonne, but why not give Davison a run out? He’s put a shift in every game I’ve seen him play, and Washington might as well have been trying to get fed by licking moss off of a rock, given how little service he got.
The inability to move and create space was really frustrating. We got away with it as well, because even with 10 men I would say Sunderland crafted the better chances.
I would say we need 2 forwards, a left and a right back, a centre back, and an absolute bruiser in the middle of the park to break up play. That’s 8 players, can’t quite see that happening. In all likelihood, we’ll prob get a right back and a forward, maybe another central defender
That's a game that will be quickly erased from the memory. The lack of flair in the team means reverting to long balls too often and until Chuks came on, I dont think we won a single one. Same with throw-ins; if a throw didnt go backwards we lost possession. And as for dead ball deliveries today.....
But, there were positives: Amos, Fanewa, Aneke and Maddison. Washington has a superb work-rate and will score and create with better players around him. Lets hope we can get one or two. Oshilaja looks more comfortable at right back, though I would prefer him to be or right sided defensive cover rather than a first team regular.
The ref was excellent in the first half, hardly blowing the whistle, but he was a diferent man in the second. Most of the yellow cards he dished out were harsh and was that a red card in that position?
A point is more than I expected and possibly more than wee deserved. As many have said, our season starts two weeks from now.
yesterday I said today was a right off with our squad not being ready
I agree, and I still feel the season in general is a write-off until Bow has had enough time to really build the squad he wants. Im not sure he will have that done by Feb. Even with the players in place it could take another couple of months for them to gel, and that's most of this season gone already. Just don't get relegated and push on for next season.
I really don’t understand what most of you were expecting today? I wasn’t expecting a point and would have been happy to avoid a hammering. For a defence that we had to keep a clean sheet - fantastic. The three blocks in one play was superb, such determination that they would not score. One attacker against their three lumps. I was not expecting a goal fest.
We do know that this squad has been decimated- again. Let’s hold off with the criticism until we have players in and they have had time to gel. The fact that we still have a club AND are bringing in players makes this a great season already for me, and not getting relegated will be a step up from where we were heading.
I think a few need to realign their expectations for this season, the club has been on life support for the past nine months, this will not be fixed overnight. We all need to show a bit of patience. A solid point to build on.
Terrible. Never any excuse to sit back and look for a draw when in the 3rd division. No pace up top, no creativity in midfield. Full backs can’t get past the half way line.
we some how have about 9 midfield players who never look like scoring a goal. Williams, Morgan, Lapslie, Vennings, Pratley, Watson & Levitt.
Not impressed at all. Season starts against Wigan. We are lacking in plenty of positions.
We rode our luck, (poor finishing from them) lets take the point, move on and let LB/SJ get the new squad together over the next two weeks and then build. Like Famewo a lot, good cameo from Chucks and Maddison, like Vennings, Williams seemed better than of late, Prately good again, Purrington played better in the Centre than on the left!! Anyway two weeks to get our promotion chasing squad together, with the chance to add to it again in January!!! We have an owner who has ambition.....lets just revel in that today!! COYR's

Yes, Bowyer seems to be chopping and changing in midfield a lot. We have a lot of midfielders, but it doesn't seem like Bowyer knows which are his best ones
In 4 games we've already used 9 players Gilbey, JFC, Lapslie, Morgan, Williams, Oztumer, Levitt, Watson and Vennings, and that doesn't include Pratley and Doughty.
We started well, but were outplayed by Sunderland for the last 20 minutes of the first half. Very, very poor. We were all over the place defensively and brought nothing in attack. I feel for a big part due to us giving the ball away far too easily. Sunderland were able to keep us under pressure because of that. Levitt and Oztumer particularly were poor. The second half a little bit better from us, although we created zero chances. All in all a point won, did not expect to get anything today.
Positives for me were Famewo, Aneke and Maddison. Aneke did well when he came on, think he will be and important player. I hope we will have Gilbey and Pearce back soon and that the proposed new signings add quality to our defense and attack

You echo my thoughts on young Levitt, and said as such to Mr F during the 2nd half. For me, he did little to show he's ready to start a game especially as we have Morgan in the wings.
Bearing in mind our shortcomings ( not Oz and Jonny) up front, our midfield showed little in the way of attacking play .....goals and even shots have to come from that area too.
Positives were Deji, Amos, Akin and Vennings until Chuks and MM entered the fray ...let's hope the latter pair are champing at the bit 2 weeks today.
Not as down as I thought I'd be tonight, but honestly still find it difficult to get half as excited as I am when physically "there" sadly.
Another painful viewing. Amos did well. Oshilaja was Oshilaja. Purrington was decent as were Pratley & Famewo. Vennings played well for 10 mins then disappeared. Levitt was shockingly bad, passing to Sunderland 90% of the time, a performance up there with Mikkel Alonso. Watson did well. Doughty was ok. Oztumer stank the place out. Washington was ok.
Williams was ok. Aneke looked dangerous apart from when he had a great chance and managed to clear the ball. Maddison showed more ability with his first kick, than the rest did in 85 mins.
Didn't watch it on iplayer so can't comment on the performance. What I will say is that I think some people will have to lower their expectations for this season, unless SG pulls out more than a few rabbits out of his hat over the next 2 weeks. We might have the same points tally as we did in 2018/19 but we don't have a Taylor, Grant, Aribo, Culllen or Beliek........and with the wage cap I don't see us picking up enough good players to match that quintet.
Sorry to say but I dont think we will be pushing on this season & would be happy with top half by the end. As it stands we will be in the bottom 4 once the opening whistles sound next Saturday & if Danny Graham had had his boots on the right feet we WOULD now be in the bottom 4.
Only saving grace is that Maddison is a decent player & IF we can bring in 2 decent strikers who can finish chances & a commanding midfielder like a Kinsella or Parker then we might just stave off relegation.

Left and right back, centre half, another strong ball winning tackling midfielder and 2 forwards.
Mind you Sunderland crap as well.

In Thomas , Bow, JJ and SG we trust.
is someone seeing into the future, not showing
