Has Bowyer lost it?

Last week everyone was moaning at Bowyer for not starting Williams. But looking at the preview for tomorrow night, no one has him in their team,  (execpt doucher who has him playing in centre midfield  :D
Are we now saying Bowyer was right not to start him? Or has Bows ruined his confidence by playing a kid who beats a player and then has a shot at goal?
Maddison was also a favourite to start. How pathetic was his performance? I can’t believe that some are suggesting that jumping out of a tackle like he did was in someway understandable. He should have won that tackle. No wonder no other club wanted him - even though he was a free.
I see that some are suggesting that this is the team Bows wanted because he signed them. You cannot be serious. I keep asking which of OUR players would you like to see starting in the Championship if we get there. No one has answered because at best there is a couple who may make the squad. This is the first season where we have had to make up the squad with players who’s suitability was that they were available for nothing. Not because they fitted a plan and had the character we wanted. TS changed that, but unfortunately not early enough.
To get into the playoffs we need at least two more players in and our centre halves back playing. We also need some stability at the club. Chucking the management team out in January would be very foolish IMO.
Oh, and for those that are suggesting Jacko to replace him - he is the defence coach!
centre midfield is williams favoured position and where he played at the satrt of last season in the championship when we were playing well - clearly you and others have been brainwashed by the negativity of our manager and the defensive midfielder gang
  • Fascinating thread. My question is : Is Lee Bowyer basically a defensive manager or does he feel he hasn’t got the personnel to play on the front foot. I think it’s an important question because we all know what Thomas Sandgaard wants. Now all the time results are going your way you might well overlook the way they are achieved but seeing negative football which is what we’ve had for a while and having poor outcome might eventually lead to a point of owner, manager discussion?

I don't think at the moment we have the personnel but with the arrival of Millar and Schwartz that may change.

That may be so. But the follow up question to that would then be that if he DOES feel that way, is he correct?
The likes of Williams and Maddison are certainly more likely to drive a team forward and attack, at the cost of defensive play. Certainly signing two forwards even with our first choice CB pairing injured speaks volumes of Bowyer's views I feel.
Famewo coming back from injury and Inniss hopefully not far behind, combined with the aforementioned signings, gives me hope that perhaps Bowyer can change his/the team's mentality. This could be a very important month for him personally and the club as a whole.
  • If Bauer and Pratley hadn't scored lucky goals in League One last time Bowyer would already be gone because we wouldn't have gone up with the team we had the season after as Duch was still owner. You can tell Bowyer has never managed before, no shape, negative tactics from the start, playing Pearce (worst defender and captain I've ever seen at this club), all creative players on the bench and blaming everyone but himself. Never really rated Bowyer as a manager and now we are playing the worst football I've seen since before the Yann era.
behave. That is just ridiculous and re-writing history.

The end of 2018/19 we was playing some off the best football for may years and was in great form. We went up and deserved it BECAUSE of Bowyer and his tactics.
    Indeed.

And frankly we should have gone up in retrospect with our eyes closed. Bowyer had a squad that any other league one manager would have killed for:

Bauer, Aribo, Cullen, Taylor, Grant, Bielik, Williams, Pratley, Djiksteel, Philips.

So whilst he did well and the job we needed to be done - it was the bare minimum one would expect with those players.

likewise compare the Lincoln squad to our squad now. Doesn’t make great reading.

He could have played 433 before he signed Millar. Williams/Washington on the left, Chuks/Bogle in the middle and Maddison/Smyth on the right

A midfield 3 of JFC (left), Watson (before his injury) and Morgan (right)

Hard to see that being any worse than the lopsided formations against Plymouth and Hull, and Maddison in his favoured position, cutting in from the right
  • There is a massive gap between our defence and (lone)striker as all of the midfielders run back into defence. Hence why we keep getting penned in an concede 2 goals every match
  • We have two of the better right backs in the division. I know, we'll play one at centre back, leave one on the bench and stick a striker at right wing back.

I genuinely think he’s got 45 minutes to save his job.  It wouldn’t be unreasonable, TS would get, I’d guess, a majority support from fans, and he will know or at least be advised that it’s got to be now if you want to save the season.

You can shout injuries till you’re blue but look at this, this at third tier level for Charlton Athletic Football Club, is not acceptable.

    MK Dons H (16th) L

    Shrewsbury A (17th) D

    Wimbledon H (21st) W

    Swindon A (22nd) D

    Plymouth H (15th) D

    Hull A (2nd) L

    Accrington H (6th) L

    Rochdale H (18th) L

You saw Matthews play? He has no fitness or confidence. You want an attacking side... this is it. It’s a mistake to have played him there but I don’t know what else you want? Hindsight is wonderful
  • He seems too have lost it.
  • Gunter is fucking dreadful for me.
Looked good when he first came in, after a (semi) prestigious career he’s been Charltonised fairly quickly.
  • After Accrington Stanley on Friday I was expecting quite a reaction and am shocked by what I’m witnessing. To crash and burn in even a worse fashion definitely means that there’s something dreadfully wrong. We’ve not gone back to basics a tried to grind out a result. We’re just all over the place again. Next forty five mins will be very interesting. I can envisage some big falling outs in the dressing room.
  • Don't know if it means anything but looking at sandgarrds twitter likes this evening, he has liked alot of tweets regarding tough talks to be had, losing to Rochdale being unnaceptable and bowyer losing the dressing room etc.

Surely not that’s 2 or 3 times the average salary under the wage cap?

That is pretty damning, I appreciate we've had injury problems at the back but one win in 8, if it happens (and with no sign of it turning around) is not good enough.

It's so odd that Lee did so well in this league during tough times under RD last time and now is struggling when things should be looking up.
  • Bowyer in
Why because we pulled it back in the 2nd half the draw against a team in the relegation zone.

Dont get me wrong it was a fantastic comeback but we should never have been in the position to need a comeback, and we still only managed a point.

Just papered over the cracks for me, we all know come Saturday, someone will be playing out of position again and it likely will cost us a goal

A triumphant 4-4 draw at home against a strong Rochdale side is a resounding answer to the Bowyer out boo boys.  Mid table safety beckons!
  • Awful awful tactics first half.....What was LB thinking with that lineup.....
