  • Haven’t booked anything yet but the mrs family own an apartment in nice hopeful of getting there for a week in September but won’t hold my breath.

We have two weeks booked in Croatia in August, originally booked for last year.

We managed to change the EasyJet flights at no cost as they wouldn’t give a refund (one of the flights did proceed and we had to make a decision before this). Also we managed to put the accommodation back a year.

Haven’t a clue if EasyJet will let us change the flight again or if we can push the accommodation again.

If the flights take off, EasyJet won’t refund unless it’s forbidden (and then they have been really slow apparently).

Hope all goes well and you manage to get away or get as much money refunded as you are able to / as your suppliers are able to provide.

Going back through this thread and all others that cover holidays and travel on this forum, over several years, I've posted about the value of booking bonded and protected packages rather than doing it yourself directly with suppliers. It may in theory (though not always in practice) be considered better value to go down the DIY route, but in the event of any disruption consumers are on their own and often out of pocket.
  • Places in Cornwall are bad enough people wise in July but this year will be rammed. To get into say Padstow you’ll have to park in Truro. Think I’ll give the summer months a swerve and go mid September somewhere to avoid the crowds.
We go early July before the schools break up for the 6 weeks holiday, makes a huge difference. We never have any trouble getting or parking anywhere including Padstow. However as you say once the schools have broken up it is a different story.
  • This seems like the right thread on which to put a question that's been on my mind:

How is it that TS could holiday (go to the Wimbledon game rather than watch the stream) without quarantining for 10 days in a Boris hotel?

we always go either June or September to avoid the school holidays. However, this year even those times will be a lot busier due to people not holidaying abroad. Just hope we have a decent summer so kids and parents will be on the beach and not cluttering up the tourist hot spots like Padstow, Port Isaac etc.

because the USA is not on the red list of countries that would mean you have to quarantine if you have arrived from there. Thomas is not breaking any rules/laws, business travel is allowed.

Don't believe that is the case, it's only certain jobs who don't need to self isolate, the exception for multi national business owners etc was withdrawn a couple of months back.

You have to be participating in said sport (or are essential operational and support staff ) and a letter from the governing body confirming you are (assume that's the EFL in this instance). I'm sure he's found a loophole and not blatantly breaking the rules as being in the press/on TV would not be the brightest rule break!

The beckehams etc are free to travel to the US and back etc as is TS, as long as they self isolate, test etc as per the regulations or have some form of exemption, maybe Victoria has signed up to be a bus driver  :D
  • I would think ‘regular work - living abroad’ would cover it for both TS and the Beckhams.

Yes, confident he will have it all sorted
  • I like the category of 'regular work in the UK-living abroad.' It's nice and vague so I looked it up on:

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-travellers-exempt-from-uk-border-rules/coronavirus-covid-19-travellers-exempt-from-uk-border-rules#regular-work-in-the-uk-living-abroad

It was removed three days ago for England.

I agree that TS must have found a loophole but where, and should he? Not just him but others like the Beckhams (to use the example already given.)

I suspect that of course there are some other hidden categories
    E.g.
    Socioeconomic classification status
    Celebrity status

  • Our trip to Zante was cancelled last year and it was all rolled over to June 19th this year but I am starting to believe it will get cancelled again.

Sadly almost certainly I would think. Even in the UK lifting of restrictions is the 21st June at the earliest,  which you can see extending out. I don't see any foreign holidays before schools are back in September.

If you look at the elite sportsperson category, it includes anyone providing essential operation & support roles as well.  I suspect Thomas could well be classified within that, especially with the management changes.

It's a broad definition of elite if it includes our back four
  • I have no issues with no holidays abroad this year, much as I would love a guaranteed sunshine break.

However, it has to be upheld for everyone. All of the loopholes need to be closed including The Stanley Johnson one and spurious business trips halted.

Also needs to be stopped the other way, why are so many people still arriving at Heathrow that immigration queues are 5 hours?

the closure of the borders for non essential travel took place 9 months too late. With all of these new variants keeping our borders safe is still vital if we are going to get back to some sort of normality.
I'm sure Boris has everything under control...

  • Maybe a few days in Barcelona in mid/late Sep followed by 10 days in Palma afterwards
  • For those planning on a holiday in the next few months, here’s a short overview of some insurance companies covering Covid when travelling. There are others, but this at least a quick list to see how most companies are including Covid cover.

  •  I don't think you can go to mainland Spain or France at the moment - travel insurance won't be valid. Although Spain is on the Amber list, the FCDO is not advising against all but essential travel to the Balearics or the Canaries so travel insurance should be  valid despite it being Amber so you need to follow the destination countries rules and the UK's on return. Always check the FCDO Travel Advice, not only to check you travel insurance is valid but because, for example, currently some Amber countries and islands are ok

With all travel insurance, please check the FCDO travel advice because it has implications on your cover
  • I’ve admitted defeat on any hopes of a foreign holiday this year.
Most likely 10 days in Looe at my Dad’s place and a few days in the New Forest in a B&B on the way back for a change of scenery.

can’t grumble but not my idea of a holiday where I sit in the sun and get waited on hand-and-foot as I’ll spend most of the time driving somewhere, sat in traffic or getting fucking soaked in the rain!
  • At the moment we got a cruise going in late September Southampton to Barcelona vis Bordeaux, it will be interesting to see if that will finally go, 14 nights of luxury some interesting ports of call, with the option of staying on board rather than tours which at the moment slightly concerns me, but we have both been double jabbed so we can decide on the day, we can cancel the cruise at the last moment if we consider it unsafe.
  • Talk to me about the Suffolk coast people,

Southwold - Kessingland - Lowestoft. Nice area to stay, things to do with kids etc?

That does depend though. The rules and cover within travel insurance is fixed and won’t change, but FCDO advice for each country is flexible and can change on a daily basis. If you’re booking a holiday for November, there’s no way of knowing what the FCDO advice will be for your destination, but you can at least purchase travel insurance with covid cover at the time you book your holiday, you’ll then have a better chance of full refund of cancellation occurs due to covid.
