Looks a different player from the one who first joined. It's also nice to see that unlike Millar he can go inside and outside the full back. Credit also needs to be given to Matthews as well, they make a very good pairing at this level.
I really like him. Like any winger he’s extremely frustrating but if we can nurture that talent and improve his final ball then he’ll be a very good player at this level.
Lots of potential there. Like @colthe3rd I like that he can go either way and mixes it up, so much harder for a fullback to defend when they are second guessing what the winger will do. He's a strong lad too and not completely useless in the air, like most wingers, so a little bit of an outlet there too.
Needs to be a bit braver and really attack his full back more and always want to make something happen. He's been a bit passive a few times when there have been chances to just drive at them. Millar on the other side certainly has his flaws, but he rarely needs a second invitation to attack at his fullback. I think it's coming as his confidence builds.
Needs a bit of work defensively too. I not making it a Bowyer-esque stick to beat him with, but if he can just sharpen up a little in terms of awareness of runners and positionally he'll be an even bigger asset.
I like him though and he looks like one that could potentially grow with the team as we, hopefully, move our way into being a solid Championship team and maybe beyond.
He is gaining more confidence and now needs to trust his first judgment more on making a pass. See an opportunity when receiving a pass and take the risk and play it, and he does not have to beat a player more than the once. Mix it up more.
I am not sure how fast he is as he never seems to push the ball and run like Millar does. I hope he does have some as running your full back early can earn you options.
He looks a good fit. A few people will always be on his back. It's the strange relationship fans seem to have with wingers/forwards, expecting them to make the correct decision each time. I like his twists and turns, being two footed.
Room for improvement would be to sometimes just use his pace and go on the outside. Also to run into space and not always need the ball at feet. Areas that good coaches will coach.
Or maybe he just needed time, as previously acknowledged :
"When you’re a young lad who goes and plays for a Swindon – not in a disrespectful way – when you go and play for Swindon the expectation ain’t as high. When you come and play for Charlton there’s a different level and a different standard. That’s the reality of it. He’s adjusting. "
These are the sort of signings I want us to sign in the summer. Young potential on good contracts to grow with us.
Similar to Powell 2011/12
I really hope we’re taking a look at Carlos Mendes Gomes at Morecambe. He’s only 22 and has already bagged 15 goals from out wide.
He’s exactly the sort of player Peterborough sign for peanuts and then go on to sell for a ridiculous price.
Proper random career. Was at Athletico Madrid, his family moved to England and he was playing for West Didsbury. Seen him linked with a few Champ clubs so no idea if we have a chance but totally agree he's the sort of player we should be looking at.

Apart from the one absolute defensive ricket last night, I thought that was his best all round game for us so far, and he did a lot of good work tackling back.

Oh yeah, I wouldn't say he's one of those wingers who doesn't believe in defending, just he's clearly not a natural at it - I've found he's a bit prone to ball watching when he should be going with his man.
He's done well, I think he'd do even better with a different striker to play off, someone who likes it to feet whom he can link with. I would say Aneke but he never passes the ball.
Couldn’t watch the match yesterday but saw he only had 7 touches. Yeah Kirk and a few signings coming in (hopefully an attacking left back and an attacking midfielder) should give us more threats across the pitch. Sounds like Oxford saw him as our main threat and looked to mark him out the game.
He didn't look man marked. Watched him second half and he barely made any movement for the ball. Really disappointing as he's the one player we had out there who I thought would/could create somet
If you are being man marked do you not drag your marker to different areas of the pitch making space for others ?
Absolutely. He must know that he is going to me a marked man. As you say he needs to take his marker in to other areas of the pitch. I actually lay a bit of the blame for DJ’s performance with Adkins yesterday. He should have swapped Washington and DJ over for bit. They had a makeshift Right Back and we didn’t give him enough to think about. In fact we didn’t give Oxford enough to think about.
Over the course of the season DJ will be fine, he’s going to have off days - as will Kirk. That’s where people like Morgan and Clare have to step up. Neither did that yesterday.

Showing the signs of being a good signing.
