Lee bowyer to porstmouth

  • I think Lee would fit in well in Portsmouth.
  • Can’t lie, it wouldn’t be the end of my world if LB went to Portsmouth. He’s no Lawrence, Curbishley or Powell.
That’s exactly what he is. He’s a fantastic club servant who’s done a good job under unprecedented circumstances. Like the others you’ve mentioned, he’s someone who gets what it means to be Charlton.
That's slightly overegging it a bit. He left us in 1996 after just 58 games, and wasn't seen again until 20 years later
Really don’t agree. Him and the rest of coaching staff stayed, keeping the club afloat despite various ownerships seemingly doing everything in their power to destroy it.

Regardless if you’re Bowyer in or out, you can’t rewrite history and pretend he’s not been a great servant to Charlton who will undoubtedly leave the club in a much better state than what he found it
Without wishing to re-write history, aren't we, more or less, in the same position we were when he took over three years ago? We picked up 19 points from our final 10 games to reach 71 points that season and made 6th place by 3 points so can't have been very far behind can we? Or, put another way, we had 52 points from 36 games and have 51 from 34 now.
No, not at all. 3 years ago we were owned by Roland and were hurtling towards oblivion. Lee Bowyer came in and galvanised the entire club. Got fans back into the stadium and secured a promotion that prolonged our existence. A collective spirit returned that had been gone since Chris Powell was sacked. ESI and an injury crisis like no other, relegated us - even with that we only went down due to Barnsley’s offside winner at Brentford.

All of those events led to Thomas Sandgaard coming in and giving the whole club a much needed lift. To make such a reductive argument about points totally negates the context of one of the craziest periods in the clubs 116 year history.

I’m not even a massive Bowyer supporter, it wouldn’t bother me if he was let go at the end of the season and it wouldn’t bother me if he stayed. It just baffles me how much people dislike the man when all in all he’s done a good job.

I'm sorry but every club can point to some event at some stage that cost them points. I expect Wigan, who finished one point behind us, could find more than one example in at least one game or use the comparison between the 12 points that were deducted as opposed to the 6 that Wednesday have been.

Of far more relevance was our inability to score - we were one of the lowest scorers in the division and in our final 12 games we hit the back of the net just 6 times, failing to score in 8 of them.
Which, of course, had absolutely nothing to do with COVID and Taylor refusing to play in the restart, two situations totally beyond Bowyer's control.  If the season had continued as normal, we would probably have stayed up with Taylor playing all those twelve.
.All clubs were affected by Covid to some degree. And if Taylor can't score for Forest (one goal in his last 23 games this season) then there is absolutely no guarantee that he would have come back and do so, post Covid break, for a side that were equally limited in creating scoring opportunities - we didn't score 6 goals in 12 matches because we were missing half a dozen chances a match!

But let's all ignore Wigan's 12 point deduction eh and pretend that that had nothing to do with us finishing 3rd bottom instead of 2nd bottom
  • Would anyone actually be bothered if Bowyer did go? I can't lie I'd be delighted :D
You want Bowyer sacked? Blimey, I never guessed that from the other 20 times you’ve posted it recently.
Your not wrong I want him sacked
    You’re not your.
  • I must admit, it’s frustrating the hell out of me that Portsmouth is spelt wrong in the title of this thread, and no capital P either !!!
I hadn't noticed that. Now you've pointed it out it'll annoy me too!!

Well that’s exactly what he did....considering he has been operating with both hands tied behind his back almost since the day he, Jako and Gallen joined us.
Only a fool could think otherwise!
So without Bowyer, Charlton would have ceased to exist? That's what you're saying.

Well......we came pretty fucking close.....or have you been asleep for a while?
He, along with others, all contributed to our survival, he just happened to be someone who, for whatever reason, chose to stick with the shit show going on in all aspects of the clubs very existence.
Of course he didn’t do it single handedly but he played a big part in it.
Why are you so anti the fella is beyond my comprehension, you and ‘Johnny come lately’ LittleAddick, are to say the least
obsessed and never pass up the opportunity to stir the pot in a very aggressive and boring self appointed campaign.
You can both fuck right off as far as I’m concerned.
Cute little outburst. Show me anywhere where I have been aggressive and let's see if it's aggressive as your post here.

I'm not stirring the pot, I just don't agree with your version of events. Bowyer worked under incredibly difficult circumstances, that's absolutely the case, and he gave us a superb promotion season. I just don't believe that if he had left last season that we would have folded. It's not an agenda against him, it's just an opinion that differs to yours.
  • Does the ‘Argument Alert’ thread still exist - this has real legs in it....
I’m up for it My Lord.

Superb work with the ‘Johnny come lately’ quote, and the ‘both fuck right off’ quote - classic Argument Alert fodder 😂
  • The word aggressive is subjective, there are many different levels/stages of being aggressive.

If Bowyer went, the only difference in the outcome could have been surviving (a very, very slim chance given our financial situation).

The club would have been as likely to fold without Bowyer as it was with Bowyer.

It's a joke, as we don't have an argument thread anymore.
  • I think to be fair, my assessment of Bowyer is that when he took over up to the point ESI became the owners, he was terrific. He showed the potential to manage at the very top of the game.

You do have to draw a line from that point and Bowyer since then though. He has had run ins with players and lost his way a bit. A have never doubted he could find his way back, but what I have doubted is the players he has not managed well would give him what was required. A fresh start and he could learn and become better.

What seems to have happened is we have really gone back to basics and after Blackpool Bowyer seems to have accepted the players need stability in terms of tactics and probably a bit less of him. There is no way with the squad we have that we should be in the position we are in, but we have that squad so the season can't be written off if this remains.

My belief is this is could be a bit of a truce though and may not be permanent.
