So it looks like Cowley is getting the Portsmouth job
Does seem weird that there's not really another solid choice that makes sense other than Jacko getting the job.
I'd be so disappointed if it was Adkins but I can't see TS being so stupid.3 -

Because he's been managing in the Premier league for the past two seasons and has much bigger clubs that are interested. I've seen him linked with Celtic and Newcastle. He took over Sheff Utd when they were in League 1 and got them promoted over 5 seasons, I can't see him dropping two leagues to do that againjamiebcool said:Honestly don't understand why the Wilder mentions are getting LOL'ed.

If the Crewe game is postponed due to international call ups then the perfect time to bring in a new manager would be after the Wimbledon game so it would give the new person 2 weeks with the majority of players before Donny.
As for who, I have no idea but please not Atkins nor JJ and Curbs but keep JJ as a coach/assistant which should be part of any agreement with a new manager.1 -

No to Adkins for me. I'd have wanted him many years ago but not now. No to JJ for me too. He'd be a punt and if TS is as ambitious as he says he is, and I believe he is, then I don't think he'll take a punt on a rookie manager and entrust him with a sizeable budget.
I think some people are underestimating the calibre of Manager we can attract.

Parochial is good 😉 It’s served us well in the past. Firmani, Bailey, Curbishley, Gritt, Powell, Bowyer, Jackson...I’d rather managers with a Charlton connection. I think that goes a long way in creating something special.Six-a-bag-of-nuts said:

Only if it was until the end of the season first. If Thomas can't find or get the perfect person for the role right now then no harm in giving it to JJ for the last 10 games. Good experience for him, becomes an extended job interview, safer for Thomas as if it works then great we might have unearthed a very good manager, if it doesn't we can ask him to stay on as coach and gain more experience or he could choose to go elsewhere and get some experience and I think we'd all wish him well and nothing would turn sour. Lots of people going to be disappointed with our appointment if they genuinely think Wilder/Howe are viable candidates.
Name me one other manager in the last 20 years whom has left a PL job and taken one up immediately in L1 (maybe there are loads I genuinely don't know and would be interested to hear). Even more so when said manager was highly regarded which Howe and Wilder both are.3 -

Jackson is vastly experienced with 445 app over 20 years from Spurs to Charlton.
8 different clubs including loans; clubs where he would have learnt so much. Good the bad and the ugly but John is discerning and intelligent and will have his own way.
The day Slade was appointed I asked JJ(at Sparrows lane) when he will write his book about his time at Cafc ?
Only when I leave the club, came the reply.
I really hope JJ doesn't write the on field and off field action anytime soon.

As an aside, far too much emphasis seems to be getting put on managers imo, particularly intra game when players make mistakes. I’m starting to feel some fans think the managers control the players like computer games.
good managers don’t guarantee success and bad managers don’t instantly mean failure. All of these people have been in football all their lives, their approach and decision making is relatively narrow and overlapping.The right budget, coaching, support and medical team and facilities, training facilities, recruitment policy, contract management, club strategy etc are all just as important as the man who picks the team and sets the tactics and formation.33 -

If we lose Johnnie from Charlton now it will be a retrograde step. He made the decision to drop two senior men straight away in the collecters of Yellow cards Pratley and Watson.
It's Thomas Sandgaard's right to bring in who he chooses but nothing to do with loyalty, but Jackson is the right man for the job now but it sounds like that won't happen.
Howe was given the Bournemouth job at 29 in League 2.0 -

Recruitment policy yes, but most managers have a big say in that don’t they, unless the club is skint.
Motivation and tactics also vital, and again, that’s a big part of the manager’s job. But of course tbe manager is only part of the jigsaw, just a pretty big part.[Edit: Of course the manager can only have a limited effect if he doesn’t have the players to work with. Would be interesting to give Pep a year at Barnet or José a year at Plymouth to see how they get on].0 -
