on Adkins, he did a pretty decent job at Hull, considering the complete mess that club was at the time. Again not saying he's the right person, but let's not rush to judgement on the Sheffield United time
Adkins has jumped to 2nd favourite in the betting. Please god NO.
Would take JJ over Adkins all day long if it's between those 2
Next manager markets are pretty meaningless until someone goes 1/33!
Just people trying to second guess and they are such weak markets with bookmakers very twitchy (if somebody knows something it is the bookmaker who pays!). £20 in the wrong place collapses a price
What are our priorities? It's complicated by the fact that we still have a small but genuine chance of the playoffs and promotion, so it's not just about next season and the next 10 years.
1) To finish this season as strong as possible to try and grab a playoff place 2) A rebuild in the summer, to either get promotion from L1 OR to stay in the Championship 3) Build a long term base to make us first an established Championship club, then get promotion
Jacko to me is the obvious person to try and finish the current season, but is he the man suited for the summer rebuild and longer term picture?
As an aside, far too much emphasis seems to be getting put on managers imo, particularly intra game when players make mistakes. I’m starting to feel some fans think the managers control the players like computer games.
good managers don’t guarantee success and bad managers don’t instantly mean failure. All of these people have been in football all their lives, their approach and decision making is relatively narrow and overlapping.
The right budget, coaching, support and medical team and facilities, training facilities, recruitment policy, contract management, club strategy etc are all just as important as the man who picks the team and sets the tactics and formation.
I totally get where you are coming from, and as much you do have to wonder why the turn over of managers at clubs in the modern age is so quick.
I guess there are pros and cons of this sort of move. The new manager bounce has been studied before and proves to be in most cases a real thing, but after that initial improvement in results they tend to regress to the mean. The performance of a club is directly linked to how good the players are/how much money they spend on players. Managers have a small impact on the overall performance of a club over time. Watford have been fairly successful changing managers regularly. I think the football community in this country are usually against it because it's not how things have been traditionally done. We can point to loads of examples of times when English football has been opposed to new ideas that have gone on to be not only beneficial but to also be the norm.
I just got the impression that Curbs has been spoken to. His comments about how many players would soon be out of contract. About the new guy coming in, needing a couple of weeks to get to know the players and therefore it would be better to give it to Jacko until the end of the season. I wouldn't be surprised if Thomas has sought his advice and sounded him out about whether he'd be interested in taking the job, if not straight away, praps at the end of the season.
Oh goodie. We can all go back to moaning about the timing of his substitutes and Jonathan Ackeorth can go back to telling crap players names four feet from someone's ears ( not mine as in the 90's I hope) from the North stand.

Cheers Bob. Yeah I know how the market works. Still find it a little worrying though

Don't worry - Thomas reads CL so knows Adkins is a non-starter amongst the faithful.
Honestly don't understand why the Wilder mentions are getting LOL'ed.
He's gone from Northampton to Sheffield United (who he took over in league one), not Manchester United to Real Madrid.
He may fancy his chances higher up the pyramid but the Charlton job is far from unrealistic.
Indeed. If Tommy boy can sell him his vision and offer him a decent wage he may well fancy it. Sends out a real statement of intent as well
that's the thing, TS has made it very clear what his intentions are for the club so will be looking for a manager that can lead us all the way not people that he will have to replace every time we step up a level.
Yeah now you say it makes me think Atkins will be the choice based on his achievements with Southampton
Or Wilder? (p.s it's ADKINS not Atkins - he was the one that disliked carbs)
I don’t really want JJ to get the job because our fans will try to bring him down eventually. There’s no point, let’s save the heartache. Bowyer gets the club, yet he was slaughtered these last few months. I’d prefer someone with no ties.
Eddie Howe is on 62 grand a week at Bournemouth. I think our top earner is currently on 4 grand a week.
You're talking about bringing a manager in, under FFP, who, if he's going to drop down the leagues, would expect an offer that's too good to refuse and one that's higher than he's getting now, who would come in earning more than 15x our top player.

Can see why he'd look good to owners
Just that stint with Sheffield United at this level worries me
Not EVER 😞
why has he been out of work since 2019
he had a 33% win rate as hull manager, which was his last job.
I think I would rather walk through Croydon in a blue and red top singing glad all over, than have him as Charlton manager
Can't imagine why he would be seriously considered by TS.
Unless TS has 100% confidence in the perfect candidate, he should stick with Jacko with Curbs as the backroom guru and fashion adviser.
Years ago I'd say yes but not now. We are L1 though so have to be realistic
He has three previous promotions out of this league, although the most recent one came in 2011 so a while ago now.
