Here comes the meltdown. Yes I agree it's underwhelming and has come out of nowhere. However we should all at least give him a chance and let's get behind him.
One question I have is who suggested him. As it has come out of nowhere.
Back in the day, in my neck of the woods, the worse kept secret was Alan Pardew was going to take over at Newcastle. When the Geordies suddenly thumped Sunderland, instead of being dismissed Chris Hughton sacking was put on hold. Over ten years ago now but possibly another six weeks went by before Hughton was sacked after losing a few more games and AP took over. Many folk had a wager on this event. Pardew denied he said anything but his nose was/is bigger than Pinocchio.
The insider information must happen on so many appointments. Do mega rich betting companies just accept that will happen but have a market on the next manager because of the false gossip that does the rounds which means they still make a profit?
The Kieran Trippier case when he moved to Atletico Madrid, made me remember the Chinese whispers that the dad dancer was learning the language and checking out the "Millers arms" in the North East long before Mike Ashley announced Alan Pardew on a 5.5 year contract, before it was extended to 8 years when finishing 5th.
If it's Adkins, then fine, and if Sandgaard feels he's the right man, then fine, it's not flashy, but someone who's got a track record in this division
Nathan Jones - Could be realistic, much more potential here than at Luton
Michael Beale - Like a few on here hadn't heard of him until this thread but having a look see, I like the idea, got some good coaching experience behind him, league1 a good starting place for the step into being no.1
Both have a Charlton connection without worrying about legendary status so when it goes tits up you won't get the CL Powell/ Bowyer in/out civil war.
However, more than happy to let JJ take it until the end of the season and see what happens there, we won't go down we probably won't go up so let him take on Bowyers "free pass".
Why would Jones leave Luton, he tried once before and look how that worked out
To be honest for me, if it was not a marquee (probably not even achievable) appointment like Wilder or Howe - then I'd give it to JJ until the end of the season and see what he can do.
That’s a GR appointment if it’s true. No way TS knows who Adkins is.
Yeah there's no way Sandgaard would be looking at who is available and then comparing their managerial histories. Or receiving applications and researching them on receipt.
I would be disappointed if JJ doesn't get a chance. If he doesn't do the business, then I would have no complaints with Adkins, but give him a chance please.
This is an important decision, but I’m fairly comfortable with Sandgaard and Roddy (+ whomever else) making the decision. I am aware of my own limitations and there are tons of variables that only Sandgaard & co are aware of, for instance:
What does the budget look like? What are our actual objectives next season? Are we building a squad this summer to get us up from L1 or to establish us in the Championship?
How much are we going to leverage out academy?
What salary is available? Does the style of football actually matter?
And there’s probably of other questions, the answers to which would influence your choice of manager that only the ownership knows. I find it weird on here & social media when someone gets so emotional because one option or the other gets mentioned/hired.
Got to give whoever gets it a chance. I’m more concerned if Ged Roddy had engineered this. Sangaard seems honest. Roddy I have no clue on - what’s his reputation?
I think people are feeling extra underwhelmed as they had convinced themselves that Wilder, Howe etc were possibilities when they really wasn’t.
Is Adkins my first choice? Nope.. 2nd? Nope but I don’t think it’s as awful appointment as some are making out. We said we wanted someone who knows how to get out of this division and I suppose he does fall into that bracket. People saying it was a while ago which I understand but we can say the same about Curbishley.
I’ll back him, and TS. I hope everyone will as well but the toxic nature already of Twitter and some comments is alarming. It concerns me that there seems to be this idea we can attract who we want when the reality is we are a league 1 club and more than likely going to be one next year as well. We don’t have an abundance of choice.
Still, my choice would of been Jacko which could be completely wrong. I just hope we aren’t too toxic before Adkins walks through the door as I think we are better than that.

He's on his way, on foot.

If this is true of course
Bowyer in!! 😀🙄
He's a very likeable guy but not someone I can see the club building something with. I'd have rathered Jacko permanent.

A bit like Slade and Robinson though, I dont think Adkins is the right choice
I guess Jacko will learn a lot from his experience, provided he wants to stay.
Let's just get behind him.
