Would rather we gave Jacko and Curbs a crack until the end of the season - seems odd rushing to hire someone like Adkins. However, if he is the man to come in I'll get behind him.
Got to give whoever gets it a chance. I’m more concerned if Ged Roddy had engineered this. Sangaard seems honest. Roddy I have no clue on - what’s his reputation?
I would imagine GR has had a lot of input, I suspect Thomas's knowledge of English football is very limited.
I personally don’t get the negativity around Adkins! Pompey can have the Cowleys....having them would be like Gobinson all over with all their technical spiel they spout out! Anybody who has seen that mic’d training session with Hudders and still believes they are the right choice has a screw loose!
That’s a GR appointment if it’s true. No way TS knows who Adkins is.
Yeah there's no way Sandgaard would be looking at who is available and then comparing their managerial histories. Or receiving applications and researching them on receipt.
March 11th interview with Nigel Adkins in the second half of this podcast. Talks a bit about what he’s up to lately, his managerial career and his philosophy etc.

Agree, Thomas has to trust input from Ged, but hopefully he will have the final say, he has seen the input from JJ since he arrived, and the players will relate to him.
I think people are feeling extra underwhelmed as they had convinced themselves that Wilder, Howe etc were possibilities when they really wasn’t.
Is Adkins my first choice? Nope.. 2nd? Nope but I don’t think it’s as awful appointment as some are making out. We said we wanted someone who knows how to get out of this division and I suppose he does fall into that bracket. People saying it was a while ago which I understand but we can say the same about Curbishley.
I’ll back him, and TS. I hope everyone will as well but the toxic nature already of Twitter and some comments is alarming. It concerns me that there seems to be this idea we can attract who we want when the reality is we are a league 1 club and more than likely going to be one next year as well. We don’t have an abundance of choice.
Still, my choice would of been Jacko which could be completely wrong. I just hope we aren’t too toxic before Adkins walks through the door as I think we are better than that.
To some extent I can see the reasons behind going for Adkins
Stendal was always my first choice but in comparison his record in the Championship isnt very good and Sandgaard / Roddy may well be looking at that (along with the Cowley's) and thinking that they're not the type who could mount a successful go at that level.
Its nice to see that Sandgaard appears to have such loyalty with Managers, just be interesting to see how much patience he'll now have with the Managers HE'S chosen to reach his outlandish targets
If Roddy thinks Adkins is the right man to meet what Sandgaard's vision is, then fine.
I'm relaxed if its Adkins, solid appointment, has obviously had time off but I don't think that's a bad thing, sometimes time off to learn and reflect is good, has managed at the highest level, done it in this division and the Championship.
Yes he had a poor season at Sheffield United, but if you judge managers by one poor season, very few people would get another job, that includes Kloop for example, who nearly went down with Dortmund in his final year.

Works for me. Surround yourself with talented people. If Roddy knows his stuff then let him crack on.
I was a big advocate of Adkins previously when we had a vacancy, can't remember when exactly, but I would be a bit underwhelmed now to be honest but only because I was maybe foolishly expecting TS to aim higher. He's the sort of guy who I think would keep JJ on, if he wants to stay that is, and JJ could learn a lot from him. He at least has experience of getting out of this League, and the Championship, and of managing in the Premier League. Maybe we shouldn't expect much more. He's also seems a decent guy. Could be a good appointment, time will tell.
If TS wants Adkins then fine, but after last nights turnaround and listening to how much JJ wanted the gig, I’d have given to him till at least the end of the season. Adkins within 24 hrs just doesn’t scream ambition.
Nigel Adkins is the equivalent to Russell Slade becoming manager back in 2016 or whenever it was. He isn’t the worst choice and I can see Thomas’ reasons as he did a great job at Saints and with the academy. This is Ged Roddy’s influence!
Assume all those wanting Bowyer out are now hanging their heads. I go on record now on saying if we appoint managers like Adkins, we are heading for Dave Jones and Harry Redknapp. Out of work ex managers who once done something quite good. I didn’t want Jackson, but now I do.

I don't expect a Premier League manager but I do expect someone better than him.
Pissed off

Reckon our plan is to recreate the 2011 Southampton squad. Get Lambert out of whichever retirement home he's in now and we'll be laughing.
no thanks
