I thought Greece had a king until 1973. Constantine or somebody. My vague recollection is that Phillip was born in Corfu, a Greek Island where in Spianada Square they play cricket.
Rather than being sad perhaps it’s better to say he lived a long and full life, celebrate such a long life. His country and family can look back on many good times of which there is many.
I’m neither for or against a monarchy but he was of another time and deserves respect like any other person passing.
The Royal Family have announced that, where possible, they would like people to make a donation to a charity of their choice rather than gathering to bring and view flowers at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle. I think that's a really nice touch.
What a wealth of stories there must be about him. He was always one of my favourite royals. Loved the fact he did the knowledge so he could drive about unmolested and down the taxi and bus lanes (from 1999, well he had a black cab, I think he did the knowledge)
Condolences to the Queen. Her husband's death comes at a time when she has already had a tough year or so. Despite all this, she is a strong woman and will continue to serve her country well.
In 1992 I met him when he and the Queen visited my workplace - I didn’t meet the Queen, but he wandered over to my desk, and asked who I was, what I did, and if played any sport - I said football, cricket and squash - he then spent 5 mins chatting to me about the England cricket team - really nice bloke, very down to earth
And here is the proof !!!
The lady in the middle was my manager, who quickly came over to make sure I didn’t say anything unacceptable (which I am prone to doing)

Great story, I saw the back of his head once circa 2009 before he went round the corner.

It feels like we are living in the last days of an age that is soon to be gone.....and it's making me much sadder than I ever thought possible.
Without him by her side, the Queen's amazing life of service would probably have been so much harder. She must be devastated.
A stalwart and a quirky personality - one of a kind.
RIP.
Rest peacefully.
God Save the Queen.
Great innings

What a great picture to have.
