  • Said earlier on in the thread that i guess this means we won't be going for Lowery or Dempsey but i hope that isn't the case.

Whilst Arter is a good signing, i thought that we as a club would be moving away from loan signings which therefore mean recycling 4-5 of the first team every summer. Lowery and Dempsey are both decent players who would be cheap and if they did well would give TS a good profit, so i think that's still something he needs to look at.

But absolutely no complaints this week, Lee and Arter are quality signings.

Just thinking if we play Arter & Watson together it will save the need to put the training Manaquins out … win/win

Just for the record, we haven’t actually signed Arter yet, have we?

Not as excited over Arter as most. Played one minute since February, and loaning a 31 yo from a struggling Forest isn't the sort of business I'd hoped we'd be doing.

Arter from a few years back, in league one, would be absolutely mustard. I hope he's still got it.

I thought the same. Would love to have him back though.

I do wonder if this weeks signings will instigate a change of formation to Adkins previously preferred 4231… something like

                           Mcgivilray

       Matthews Inniss Famewo Purrington

                       Arter        Dobson

          DJ                 Lee                Kirk

                            Stockley
That’s how I’d line up but Morgan for Dobson perhaps.

Just out of interest for those saying Arter will be an excellent signing. Are you basing this on his time at Bournemouth?

Having Arter is a positive move to have depth in the squad. Competition for places is good. Also as Arter is an older player his home club will be less bothered if he doesn't play every week.
I definitely prefer bringing in experienced players than loaning in young players to develop for other clubs, who contractually have to play a certain number of games.

This system will never work.  We all hated it when Robinson played it and we had better players then.

    Cullen?
    Isn't he Anderlecht's captain?
Not sure about that but had a quick look at his stats and he's a regular. :-(
Cullen has skippered but don’t think it’s a regular thing.

could the returning player be Cory Gibbs??
    Anil Koc.
Koc is not pronounced Kock , rather Koch because the ç in Koç makes it pronounced Koch, as the ch in church.
So you’re saying that Simon Church is pronounced Simon Chuck…
I don't think I will bother to reply to that.
You don’t need to be a chunt about it …😉
You don't need to act like an uneducated dick looking for a cheap laugh but you do.
Gotta be honest here..for someone who plays the victim most of the time, you come across as someone who is pretty unpleasant.

If arter joins and gilbey returns soon, maybe Clare can be the attacking right back
"Sean, you know how you left Oxford because you didn't want to play right back..."

There's not that much difference between 433 and 4231 really

Re: Arter's age, Gallen said that we would look to bring in a few experienced players as well. It's not just going to be all young'uns.

Also, I would be surprised if his legs are gone at 31 years old.

To the people moaning about a signing like this..

Who on earth are you expecting us to sign in League 1? Some of you who going on so much about Lowry, Dempsey etc saying you’d rather them when you have seen them play 1-2 times.

Arter is a good signing in a position we are extremely weak in. We have played 4 games and our midfield has lost nearly every battle. We need a player like this to get a grip of the game. Morton, Dobson, Clare are most certainly not going to do that!

Gunter was only 31 when he came in, and is only 5 months older than Arter, and it can be argued that he's declined significantly from his peak

Eventually we should get some luck with a player. This could be it.

I don't think Gunter's legs have gone. He's just been shit.

And will Arter be shit just because Gunter has been?

The real question will be whether he's lost his motivation and is just playing out his final years, or he's gunning to play football again after being frozen out at Forest. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

What other explanation for a player of Gunter's pedigree being substandard can there be other than physical degradation? He's gained more experience, had more training. Short of getting the yips (which isn't really documented in football aside from in strikers), how could Gunter, once of Spurs, be hapless in League One if his legs haven't gone and he's trying to make up for it and failing?
  • If we need or go after another CB I’d like Sam Woods who Palace let go, think he is 22 and right sided, good age and suitable replacement for Inniss

    You can't be serious @leuth

You're intelligent enough to come up with some other reasons without me helping!
