Before anyone wets the bed Nigle isn't talking to us. He is talking to anyone that just added 100k to the loan fee for their left back or an agent representing an unemployed left back in the Gillingham area.

"Look we desperately need another LB now as I ain't go no-one, but I'm not gonna say it as I know what happens out there when chairmen hear ya, but yeah we got no-one to play there".

Well, this is just one of those things we will know in a week or so, if Gunter plays left back in our opening league games or not.
Watched the stream. Certainly lots of positives. While Palace weren't full strength they were not a team full of kids or what could be classified as an XI.
Its been said already, but the only real negatives were the fact that we gifted them both goals. Also felt we were too quick to go long to Stockley and when we played through the midfield we looked far better. Felt we were the better side in the first half and it was pretty even second, even after all the changes.
Gomes looked tidy and on the little evidence I have seen so far, would be a decent back-up and is probably worth a year - unless we have better lined up.
The kids were all ok again, but I can't see any of them having a regular impact in the first team. Davison looked sharp when he came on, but Vennings and Dempsey are some way off being league one players.
What is evident is that Adkins is really starting to put his stamp on the team. The players look far more comfortable in his preferred formation, especially DJ who looks like he is going to be a big player for us this year. Clare looked useful as well, got about the pitch and put a tackle in when needed. Thought Famewo and Pearce looked good together as well - impressed Pearce lasted 90 mins (I think).
Not convinced by Adkins comments around Purrington - suspect a natural left back will be on the shopping list, more than likely a loan.
IMO we are 4/5 players short and a wide man, striker and right sided centre back should be at the top of that list.
I looked it up on the government website and being a company owner isn't on the list. If I'm missing something then fair enough but I'd like to know what it is.
He qualifies as a 'business director bringing significant number of jobs and investment to the uk'

What's struck me this preseason is that the players look well coached, they know what their roles are out there, and that he's signing players and bringing academy players in to play in his formation.
Pre season is a very important time, as once the season starts things become very frantic. 5 league games and 2 cup games in August will give little time for new players to adapt to us, so I really hope the reinforcements arrive sooner than later.
Lots of positives. The midfield 3 look really good and their skills fit the system. Albie is playing at a different level. Washington looks dangerous - he is playing almost like hybrid winger/second forward depending on who has possession. Both Matthews and Gunter were sharp. Some really good effort and counter attacks from the youth. The negatives - defensive mental lapses by all 3 of the center halves and the goalkeeper, lack of depth is evident with only under 23s available as reserves. Of the reserves, Deji, Clayden and Gomes might be on the fringe of the squad. Others like Barker and Ghandour have shown some promise as well for future but not for this season. I don’t think Dempsey or Vennings are going to cut it as the momentum of play really swung once they were brought on and both seemed to struggle linking up with the front three. We need Gilbey and Watson back to provide midfield depth
think your bang on Boston. if say we need a winger, another cm, not sure gomes is good enough a cb and a full back. I'd expect 2 - 3 of these to be loans so 1nor 2 permanents

I see a "different" Palace fan has done the "4 take aways" for Palace, in the SLP, tonight, I hope they can find a Charlton fan to do ours, although Louis's could stand in and give his view

Confirmation bias perhaps but still feel that we've bought well, just not enough.
Another six of the standard we've brought in so far and we'll be serious contenders.

Doesn't make your opinion wrong but it isn't "no chance" is it?
Obviously the rumour about him being in intensive care was nonsense and that's a pretty grim rumour to be making up...

Watson should be involved on Saturday
For what reason?

I had actually already wet the bed on page 13.
