Enjoyed the film immensely. Thought three hours went very quickly. Certainly quicker than 90 minutes watching Charlton. My problem is that James Bond is dead. That’s dead. 007 isn’t of course. We were reminded twice that it’s just a number. How can M, Q, Miss Moneypenny continue as if nothing has happened. They toasted to his memory. For me, if 007 is coming back as James Bond then something very drastic has to happen to reboot the franchise. They’ve got to try something completely new. Not just what they did when previous incarnations of Bond changed actors. We’ve never had to face that James Bond is dead and accept he’s suddenly back looking different. Confused. Thought the young black actress playing 007 would be a disaster if the idea is to continue with her. No credibility in the character at all. Heard suggestions that Amazon might be considering a series rather than blockbusters. That too would be a disaster.
He died in You Only Live Twice, machine gunned on a bed that retracted into the wall, so...
That was a faked death as part of the storyline. Am I being whooshed ?
    could be the same again
Well if JB can escape death in that last scene then it’s ridiculous. No way that’s either survivable or a faked death.
It won’t happen. They killed him. They will reboot. The challenge is finding a way to reboot it in a way that won’t just repeat what they’ve just done. It’s one of the biggest challenges they’ve ever had with Bond. It was easy to change actor when there was no continuity. And even easier to go from Die Another Day to Casino Royale.
Challenge is really on for the next director and scriptwriters, this boot or cycle was excellent and had a huge kick up the arse from the makers of the Bourne films

Daniel Craig also played the role perfectly, snarky, cold, but also humorous and charming as well as being a double hard bastard.

I dont feel a particular affinity to the bond franchise as such beyond the last lot from casino royale onwards being excellent cinematic events, beautifully shot, proper big screen cinema stuff all embraced. I don’t care if the next set of films feature a black actor playing James Bond or a white actor, clearly the character is male but I think these last films did all that could be done with the character and gave him a proper arc and as cool as Sean Connery was he is second to Daniel Craig now
It's not the first time the Bond franchise has had to react to other movies. The likes of True Lies came out a year before Goldeneye and at that time was cited (at least in Empire magazine) as giving Bond a boot. Moonraker was in response to Star Wars. It's happened quite a lot!

You're absolutely right that giving Craig a long-term arc has allowed him to become a definitive Bond. The others were never given that opportunity. It just means the franchise is painted into a corner for now. I wonder how long they'll wait for the next one - my guess is at least 3-4 years.

Goldeneye was pretty good, but none of them were in the same league as the last 5  the ones before Pierce Brosnan for the reasons you rightly state, they were standalone films. I'm happy for them to leave Bond for a while and not make any rash casting or directorial decisions. I didn't see how this film was particularly woke, Bond girls have often been women who high kick and shoot people in the face, it was a good element of the film that someone else would be using the 007 and the fact it was a black girl I didn’t see as tokenism because she was well cast, the character was good and fitted in with the story. What I don't want is producers to feel they need to make a dramatic change for changes sake and give the world a non-binary, vegan, teetotal Bond to say "hey look at how awake we are to the world" and waiting a couple more years might make the world go a bit more sensible in terms of how overly vocal and sensitive some segments of society are in terms of stuff like fictional characters

I think it was ok but had to move seats three times due to people no longer knowing how to behave at the cinema. Full on convos, running commentary and phones on checking Facebook etc.
I don't or won't go to the cinema in the evening or anything resembling peak time now because of arseholes having no concept of how to behave in a cinema. Early as possible on a day off is the way to visit the cinema. Watched this in a screen full of oldies and apart from a lot of bladders needing emptying I was not disturbed at all by mobile phones, fucking inane talking or whispering or noisy consumption of junk food.

Started this years ago when I watched pirates of the Caribbean on my own, solo, at 10am and I'm happy to continue to do so
And it’s being so cheerful that keeps you going ;0)

    Haha

Do you know what, I can think of few things that make me more mentally balanced than knowing what aggravates me and avoiding it.

Of course that falls clean apart when I have to unavoidably participate in one of these things like a rush hour journey into London, food shopping, parking (always park miles away from where I'm going, away from all other cars and without fail I'll return and find some cocksucker has parked right next to me leaving 50 plus empty spaces), eating at somewhere like a harvester restaurant because my tight as arseholes father in law won't pay decent money for decent food and would rather eat a plate of human faeces if the portion was big and he got change from a tenner than pay more for better quality food and surroundings, and being in any queue where the dickhead behind me is incapable of respecting my personal space, swimming pools where people stand and chat rather than swim and gyms where people spend as much time talking selfies as any physical activity

Lockdown actually suited me quite well ;-)
Yes it certainly made you mellow out.

Every single time. Always walk back to the car shaking my head with an incredulous, despairing look asking myself "what the f*** is *wrong* with people?!"
  • New Agent achieves 007 status.

Your code name is Bond, James Bond.

So long as James Bond remains a man, the story will continue.

If they go down the route of a female bond, it won't be James Bond 007 anymore and the series will be finished.

Did you ever watch the 1930s, Flash Gordon. Now that is escaping death.

I’m not sure why people keep suggesting that there may be a female Bond . It will never happen and the producers have said so countless times.

    Way too long.
    Plot all over the place.
Rami Malik is a massive over acting ham.
Guessed Bond was snuffing it a mile off.
Daniel Craig’s pouting is awful and at its worse in this film.

    But still enjoyed it.

Because this kind of thing does keep happening to movies. Some of them were never good though in fairness. Here's a few I can remember:

    Ghost Busters
    Oceans eleven
    American Pie
    Pirates of the Caribbean
    After the Wedding
    Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

Apparently Lord of the flies is coming next

I don't particularly like it either (All those films above were awful) but believe me , we are safe with Bond. It makes far too much money for them to alienate it's fanbase and target audience. I don't even think they would risk a black Bond which is a shame in my opinion.

I would put money on Rege Jean Page being a good bet for a younger Bond…

He certainly looks the part and he’s bookies favourite . It would be a good move .
  • Big fan of Daniel Craig as Bond. Probably my favourite Bond actor now. Casin Royale by far the best for me. The next 3 difficult to split but all great and entertaining. I saw them all at least twice at the cinema and Casino Royale 3 times. This was by far the most boring of the 5 films he made as Bond. My partner is going to see it again tomorrow but I couldn’t bring myself to sit through it again.

I certainly would not call it boring!? Perhaps they want to watch it without you snoring or grumbling all the way through?!

This is more ‘Get Carter’ than ‘Carter the unstoppable sex machine’ which are the only two Carter references that spring to mind. Maybe work on the sheriff Fatman references?

  • Just seen it, a dead horse that’s responded to flogging!
  • Not normally the biggest Bond fan but I really enjoyed it - a strong storyline.
  • Just seen it, a dead horse that’s responded to flogging!
I have no idea if you liked it or not from that ?
  • I saw it in Bluewater in one of the posh reclining chairs, One thing pissed me off was how unbearingly loud it was, not during the film itself but all the poxy trailers (god theres some awful films incoming) and all the bleeding awful adverts which go on forever and ever.

  • Who untied the sea-plane from the mooring when he pushed the Ruskie inside and hopped in ?
  • Really impressive stuff. Craig's finest hour. Location cinematography was excellent. The gadgets, stunts and pace of the plót. and even the script was pretty good. The wokeometer rang a bit but not overly so.

I took my daughter and was surprised to find a beautiful father/daughter theme ran through the story also.

A great story of self sacrifice for others. A man for his family. How rare to see this in this age.

We need much more of this kind of entertainment. An enjoyable film for all the family.

Did you not watch Quantum of Solace? Even Daniel Craig says that film is poor in the recent Apple documentary….
