  • I wish her well. We won't know the full details of course but if her family are rushing to her side it is ominous as they will know people will draw conclusions from that which i what I am doing I suppose.
  • Personally think it’s bad taste, tell us when it’s happened. Do we really need a kind of pre event warm up. I really don’t think so……..
Come on. She may be our queen but she also has a family who should be the first to know. We don't need to know when it's happened.
I’m sure they have phones and other means of communication. I’m sure if a family member is on a plane an hour away, they would not wait until they arrived to tell them.
In what way does it affect your life that you are not told immediately?

Let's not forget we are all speculating at the minute. She could well be in bed awake but not far off. Fingers crossed the family make it there before anything happens.
  • I'm a fan of the Queen if not the institution and for me this decision to cancel programs and wear black and all that to be really distasteful. Unfortunately we are in an age when everything has to be 24 hour news and reaction, even when there is nothing to say. Frankly it's verging on goulish, like they want to put a countdown clock on it or something. Thing is, journalists have been rehearsing for this for years and years and they have all got excited.
What you are seeing is a well rehearsed process  - nothing to do with 24 hour news and reaction.

You have “COMPLETELY” misunderstood my comment. My point is that her death is a private matter. An running some build up to the point where we are to be told is in my view poor taste.

Say nothing at all…. Not that want to be up front on the news……
  • Sort of inevitable yet shocking.
    I hope she pulls through.

    Understood - and apologies.
  • Hear me out with this one.

If she does go today, I think it wouldn’t be a bad time to go at all in the long term, because she will go down as the head of state who served right up until death (she welcomed Truss in as PM just two days ago).  That’s some innings and some way to go out.  All due respect intended of course.
  • Just switched on BBC World and it just seems to be someone called Witchell delivering a monologue, and admitting there is no news expected for the moment.
Sadly, and I speak as a Republican, the coverage very much suggests the worst.
Hope she is comfy and at peace.

  • the cover the coverage is all very sombre and lots of black ties being worn.  The fact the family are all travelling would suggest her passing is iminent.

    hope I’m wrong

    Gstq
  • Incredibly sad regardless of how inevitable. I hope The Queen is as comfortable as she can be.

    God Save the Queen.  <3

Correct - and would all have been agreed and signed off by the Palace way ahead of time.
  • Not sure why people have to spew bile and just generally shit views.

Don't think that has been the case on here bar one particular ill-judged post and even that wasn't directed at the Queen.

Sorry, but I don't think your own post is at all helpful in avoiding the situation you describe.
I disagree but certainly not here to argue so will leave it at that.

Sadly I think you are right and they will wait until all the key royals are there before announcing formally - otherwise why the blanket BBC coverage and all in black
Would imagine that’s spot on. As idiotic as journalists can be, for something that’s been being rehearsed for decades, don’t imagine they’d do any of this unless they were told something definitive. Would have expected an announcement first but Lord knows what goes on behind the scenes of all this

Operation London Bridge above is the standard procedure - You'll notice that one of the actions is for the BBC to dress in black, once its happened - Of course because she's in Scotland; Operation Unicorn comes into effect.

Always been intrigued by the pageantry and protocol of it all because it truly would be one of the most important events in world history
would it really be though? it might seem like that in the UK, but it's not going to have any real impact anywhere else. Not really going to have any impact here either
It's probably the biggest news story in our lifetime if it does happen. Doesn't matter how old you are.

Think of how many world events she's been front and center of representing the country.
In terms of shock value and incredulity I'd suggest that 911 is the biggest news story in my lifetime.  Nevertheless, commeth the sad hour, this will be a close second.  Bless her.  A truly remarkable lifetime of service.

I suspect she has already died . All presenters are wearing black and are all but saying so.
Officially the announcement will be made ( if it has happened) at 6pm .
    I hope I’m wrong .

(I think I’m right in saying that the country will be in 12 days of mourning and all sporting events will be cancelled )

    Sorry, this is morbid.

The death of Diana is definitely the biggest news story of my lifetime.

Nicholas Witchell was speaking and stuttered halfway through just now - and frankly sounded like he was about to start crying. His whole voice changed halfway through a question..... Its like something had just come through to him.

That may be because Prince Charles fell out with Witchell two decades ago and slagged him off so may fear for his Job; Nicholas not Charlie.

What irritates me a bit is that the Queen is expected to do certain things and if she doesn't there is gossip. She is a 96 year old woman and shouldn't be expected to do anything and it shouldn't be news if she doesn't. Every duty she performs, including meeting the new prime minister should be able to be done by Prince Charles representing her. We don't know how much of a struggle that might have been and if she didn't it would be all over the news! She has served her country well and for our part we should be happy that she is the Queen and somebody else performs all her duties when required. If laws needed changing, we should have changed them.

Scotland famously played an international match on the day of Diana’s funeral - many Scots were furious

Two weeks put of the football season in this already bonkers World Cup year would cause absolute mayhem. Just an observation, I'm not saying it shouldn't happen
  • I imagine there will be something at 6:00pm.

It's already when the BBC do their news announcement in the evening and when most people will have finished work and back at home to watch.

I agree - if the worst happens and she is so ill that she passes away today or tomorrow, I would not be surprised if the weekend football fixtures are postponed, but only Saturday, Sunday and Monday matches, after that back to normal
  • I know many do not share my sentiments, but I am a royalist.  They are privileged but they spend their lives in the spotlight acting as a celebrated party host for visiting dignitaries, never able to say what they really think about "their" latest idiotic government.  I wish her peace and a painless passing if it is her time.

Having said that I won't spend hours watching yhe coverage etc.
  • very wrong to speculate, but i think it's likely we'll have news very soon and that we're waiting for the family to be together.
