If Lyle got our very very very unlikely playoff ambitions back on track why on earth wouldn’t anyone want him back. Without a player of his ability both this and next season we won’t be going anywhere.
    Exactly.

I am in the minority, would take him back in a heartbeat.

What happened before, happened. He could have played and we still go down. And yes I know it’s not about that, it’s what happened and how it happened and how it was all about him and we would have had a better chance but we still could have gone down.

Being so precious and holding onto that pain from before to ensure we inflict more pain on ourself by standing still in this awful league makes no sense. It’s insane.

If he were to ever come back (which he won’t now) he’d likely make the difference between success and failure. Turning down success when the club desperately needs it, beyond me.

Anyway, Aneke on his way and least we should enjoy watching him when he’s on the pitch for the rest of this season.
Do you genuinely believe we’d make the play-offs (what is the gap, 14 points?) if we signed Lyle Taylor in January?
I didn’t say we would make the play offs, even if we sign him. Because we won’t, to both. But turning down the success on the pitch he would bring (that could be next season) when we desperately need it is insanity.

I want out of this division as quickly as possible and if someone said to me if you sign Taylor you will be promoted but if you don’t you’ll stay in this awful league for however longer, I wouldn’t hesitate in the slightest.

I think it’s a shame that so many would when in reality he missed only 3 games due to when his contract actually expired if he didn’t want to extend beyond the period due to the circumstances. We picked up 7 points in those 3 and only 2 in the remaining 6. And like I said, I know it’s how it happened and the time and the ownership at the time didn’t help, the whole situation was awful.

But again, football fans are fickle and if he ever came back and scored a load of goals, the past will quickly remain in the past.
That's a different scenario all together. If God came down from the heavens and offered me that ultimatum, I admit I would take the guaranteed promotion.

The problem is that he doesn't guarantee promotion - what he does guarantee is controversy when we really don't need it. He's admitted it himself plenty of times, he doesn't even like football. Now he's got his big pay day, who's to say he'll even bother to turn up when back in League One?

He's 31 now and hasn't played well for two seasons, I just don't see it working the second time around. I really liked Lyle, but too many bridges have been burnt (not just fans but with staff) for it to have a fairytale ending.

I wouldn't be mad if he came back, but he'd be very low on my wish list.

I always remember being told by one of LT’s good friends that he was furious with Bow.

Apparently after he made the decision to leave Bow & him agreed it would be kept in house but Bow then broke his word and went to the press and LT was steaming that a trust had been broken and wouldn’t play for him again.

Ive often wondered if LT might have changed his mind if Bow had done differently.

Still all in the past now.
The agreement was made before it was in the public domain.

They agreed to not announce it before they were back playing - if you remember Lyle was the first instance of players refusing to play. Once he did that the relationship was done.

Not really bothered if you believe it tbh just saying what I know and was told by an ex pro who’s good mates with LT - the ex pro thought Bow was an anchor for doing it.
  • Lyle was made the fool guy which he never deserved, bring him and chucks back, JJ will smooth things over with fans
  • Scott Wagstaff has signed for Bromley.

    He made himself the fool.

Scott Wagstaff has signed for Bromley.
Really puzzled how he's ended up out of the EFL, and not because he's joined a moneybags NL side. He's only 31
  • Another overrated charlton player…
  • I really think some of you fail to see the fickleness of the game you love so much.
It's shithouse on every level. No player, certainly most cares about the badge or the sacrifice fans make each week despite what they say.

You need to take it for what it is.
As fickle as the game is, as shithouse at every level and as little as most players care for the club they play for; very few across English football refused to play after the Covid break and those that did at least had the sense to blame a fear of Covid/passing to families etc over simply the greed of a contract.  So Taylor was more fickle, more shithouse and cared less than most.  I would never welcome him back, in any circumstances, ever.

Plus anyway, he is older and richer and not half the player he was anymore. We can do better.  Chuks scoring record is broadly the same and all levels, if not slightly better.

The season ends when all NINE games are played.

Yes the contract expired after 3 games, but that was due to a once in a lifetime Covid delay. The SPIRIT of football contracts running to the end of June, isn't because June is a special month, it's so that the football season is completed before the contract expires. Especially in a world of transfer windows.

I loved him as a player, but what he did was terrible. Ditto the small number of other players who also made the same choice.
Yes, but a contract in a business like football must have a start and end date, otherwise it continues and who then has the say of the end date?

By contract law his contract finished on 30th June 2019.

Players who played beyond this point who were ‘out of contract’ had to agree for it to be carried over.

In theory, players could have played until 30th June and said that’s it I’m done, I’ve fulfilled my contract.

It’s the same with contracts finishing mid season. Football contracts have a cut off date, they don’t state once X season has fulfilled all fixtures and finished.
  • Total hearsay this and the same bloke who told me this last when it turned out to be untrue has told me again , but apparently we are looking at Admiral Muske as a loan option from Luton
  • After watching the Swindon City Game.

I was really impressed by Kaine Kesler Hayden his decision making in possession calm and composed and his positioning work ethic off the ball to intercept make a tackle. On loan from Villa.

That’s nice for Swindon I suppose
  • Given how difficult it is to get good players fit enough to play from the start in January. Is not likely that Sandagaard will not splash the cash on new players and wait to the summer.
The chance of play off spot has almost gone as well which adds to his reason for not brining in new players.

That's because we've never had an interrupted season that's resumed 3 months later before, and such an eventuality would never had been predicted. If someone had forecast such an eventuality, the contract would have stated June 30 or the end of season, but that's still the unwritten rule

I thought so too. Shame he's on loan otherwise I would have been putting in a cheeky bid.

Nothing to say we couldn’t pick up his loan. I’m sure Villa would rather he played in L1.

Jeez we love a Luton reject nowadays. That Simple fact makes me sad… how we’ve fallen!

Agreed, but he is better than national league. Providing he still has some pace he will rip that league to shreds

Admiral Muskwe has 1 assist and no goals in 553 minutes for Luton this season.

He had three goals and no assists in 1088 minutes for Wycombe in the Championship last season.

Did some good stuff in Leicester’s academy over the years and is obviously talented but not really kicked on in the senior game yet.

Gallen is flying out to the AFCON to get this one over the line……………

Can’t imagine Admiral will be too concerned about signing a League One loan deal this month.

Chuks is coming back!? Is this for real?

    Hope its Alfie Doughty
This would be a pretty much perfect signing given the formation we play. Can allow purrington to drop into the left of the back 3.

A proper left sided player like Doughty and up front are the main areas we need to strengthen for sure
  • Scott Wagstaff has signed for Bromley.
    Danny Green next

Even if, and it’s a colossal if, he hadn’t shat in our bed, Taylor is a year and a half older and has done the square roof of eff all since he left. He’s not the Messiah, just a particularly naughty boy. And I’m sorry, with our history of crocks and players made of glass, let’s add another to the mix by bringing Chuks back. Can’t we just break out of this harking back to the glory days (ha ha) and move on?   Cullen on the other hand!  Nurse, Nuuurse!!!

I can’t see either Chuks or Taylor coming back, I think there’s a lot of wishful thinking on this thread, move on people.

I think you may be wrong on the Chuks front. We will see...
