Only Shan Masood (713) has more CC runs this season than "find of the county season" Ben Compton (560). But guess who lies in 4th place - a former player of ours in fact. None other than Sean Dickson (520) currently of Durham.
Of course, Compton's runs were achieved in Div 1 and he is also the highest run scorer of those qualified to play for England.
I do recall saying that everyone theses days can bat to a degree unlike at the time I was growing up when every side had at least one walking wicket. Well, sadly, it seems I was wrong!
Gilchrist has at least four pairs as far as I can see. I though that he might be on his own in taking 43 First Class wickets in a total of 14 matches but only scoring 99 runs. However, I remembered that John Dye didn't know one end of the bat from the other and found that he took 725 wickets in 266 matches - and only scored 778 runs!
I believe both Norman Graham and Kevin Jarvis took more career wickets than they scored runs so, bad as he was, Kent have had worse batters than John Dye!
Bird has served his time with us and is returning to Australia due to his shoulder injury, Stewart is injured as evidenced by "him" being run out on 90 by his runner not making his ground on Sunday and Klaassen, albeit not white ball, is out too at the moment. Not sure if any of our front line seamers will be playing against the Sri Lankan Development team this week so expect to see a few rookies.
Denly is back for the game starting tomorrow against the Sri Lanka Development XI. The keeper will be Billy Mead who has been playing for the 2s this season, having previously done so for four other counties.
Also in the 12 are two of Seb's best friends in cricket - Jas Singh and Max Luckett, having played with both in Kent age group cricket and at Bexley and Bickley Park respectively. The only downside is that Max won't be available to play with Seb for Bickley on Saturday against Tunbridge Wells at The Nevill but hope both lads have a great game.
Why is Zak Crawley not putting himself forward for this game ? Terrible decision
I suspect that he's taken himself out of the firing line to go and work on his technical faults. The problem with facing opposition such as today's is that they will generally bowl good balls but will also bowl more bad balls - and it is the bad balls that you don't ordinarily get at international level that are as likely to get you out due to that lack of respect to a ball that you aren't expecting as evidenced by Denly's dismissal today - it doesn't get much worse this:
Burns, Sibley and Lees all have scored CC centuries and Crawley has barely reached that in six innings. He has to produce something meaningful in the next couple of games because it is becoming difficult to justify his selection for England - if this were a Gooch or a Boycott or a Cook in poor County form then I suspect that they would still be picked but, as Crawley has yet to truly prove himself at international level, it's not that straightforward. Even Kent must be close to leaving him out because it will be hard on one of Compton, DBD, Leaning, Cox or Robinson if one of those is left out instead should Denly return for the next game.
I wonder how many times before we've gone into a game with 10 bowlers and/or 6 spinners! Poor James Logan never stood a chance of making the starting XI
And then bowled for 168. Not sure what happened the previous ball, maybe struck on the hand, he wandered off to square leg for a while and came back shaking his hand and was then bowled.
The only wicket to fall was caught by Max Luckett off Jas Singh. These wickets really do not suit Stevens or many seamers for that matter but I'm not sure that we can justify his selection with season figures now of 1-273 unless it is as a batsman in which case where would you bat him and who would you drop?
Hurrah a wicket. Linde persuades the keeper, Fernando, to chop on - poor lad was on 99 too!
479-3 at tea
That wasn't Fernando the keeper. It was the other Fernando. The keeper, Fernando, is now out for 269. Great to see so many of the Kent players coming up to him and shaking his had including Stevens who has seen a few big innings in his time.

he is on 147 off of 82
8 x 4's
15 x 6's
needs one 6 to equal the county championship record held by Andrew Symonds

For the next 10 years of his career, he's going to concentrate more on his batting
