  • Like its not very good, but after 2-0 win i couldn't care less
  • Fans' Forum meeting on Thursday so let them know your views in advance.
  • If it has to be played that loud, its crap

    Big overreactions imo.

I think the volume is more the issue than the song given comments on this thread, which is funny because people used to complain they couldn't hear anything on the intercoms.
Its still a struggle to heat Brian Cole's announcements in the Covered End Upper
  • Reckon this would add a bit of drama to proceedings -

  • Thomas. I love you for buying our club. The moments at and immediately after the final whistle belongs to the fans to release their emotions. Your "music" might be magic to your ears but it blasts out at the wrong time and is too effing loud. God bless you.

  • It needs to stop!
It's not needed and totally kills the atmosphere.
Like the vast majority, I only want to hear us clapping, singing and cheering.
After the tunnel jumps got RRR on. That's all that is required!

We should bring back an Upton Park classic..."you win again" by the Bee Gees. Now they were the days!
Or even more old school "Congratulations" by Cliff Richard

Did we really used to play this after a win Henry?!? Bit before my time haha!
  • I thought the song was Okish when I first heard it but now it's really annoying. Also very difficult to get it out of your head when you've just heard it. I've got the bloody intro wailing as an earworm this morning.

One of my earliest football memories was hearing this song after games at The Valley. That and crushing the paper cups on the East Terrace!

I think it probably depends where you sit. In the East it is deafening. I absolutely hate it and it’s a massive deflator at the end of the game. The players are clapping the fans and walking off, it should be a buzzing atmosphere but instead there is no singing as they are force feeding noise through the tannoy.

I love the Red Red Robin a thousand times more than that 80s crap, but I don’t want to hear that then either. Play it once the tunnel jumps done as the fans are leaving and leave the end game celebrations to the fans, players and Jacko to show a bit of appreciation to each other. Let us sing to Jacko, Stockley, Gilbey etc
Very much agree with this. Music can be quite divisive at the best of times, and whereas the Red Red Robin has charm, and is part of the club's history, hearing a metally type song VERY loud right after the final whistle totally kills the atmosphere after a hard earned excellent victory like this one, when fans just want to savour the moment.
Nothing wrong with the song, which I'm sure is very good if you're into your retro metal sounds, it's just that the majority of fans probably aren't. Stick it on after the tunnel jump and RRR, as a compromise, and everyone's happy.

Only Charlton fans can see their team win a key promotion match and immediately complain about the music that follows it
Kills the atmosphere dead. Will post positive views on post match thread.

Were you at the game? Not a dig if not but just might not come across as much on tv.

Not a major thing but just think it completely kills the authentic atmosphere  stone dead as so loud.

I wasn't at the game, but for what it's worth, I do actually agree with you, the noise at the end of a football match when you've won is unique and I'd rather hear that. I just thought the timing was funny.
I like the idea of playing it during the tunnel jump. If you time it right it could be like wrestlers' entrance music, which would be hilarious
  • I am so glad that the moans have turned away from a relegation battle where tactics, the manager and just about every payer was being criticized to what song we play after another victory at the end of a game and how loud it is being played!

I know you're joking but the 8th part in that would actually work at the final whistle.
  • I like it and in my opinion doesn't make a difference to any atmosphere after the game but I'm in the West upper. End of game is normally clapping ranging between polite to enthusiastic depending on the result.
Realistically people don't like change and love to have stuff to moan about!

  • He needs to stop playing it.

The "saved the club" appreciation honeymoon has now completely surpassed.

I can see behind the mask. The bloke does have self inflating ego and it is a problem.

Compare the problem to the Belgian waffle...then that is only the waffle to victory and it makes TS sound like a very good owner of the club.

TS is showing indications that he believes the sun shines very brightly out of his own ass, but, he attends games, he has put loads of his own money into the club and he openly communicates with the fans.

We can't have it all our own way. It just is what it is.

  • Heard it on tv tv stream for first time last night, not bad, a bit cheesy, good effort made… but dont need to play it straight after the final whistle. Give the fans 2 mins to sing at least!

I don't fully agree with what you are saying but get where you are coming from. Think it's the first time I've seen the updated "This is the Valley" intro video and to have Thomas on there along with players doing their poses to the camera struck me as an odd thing to do, can't be many clubs if any that do that. You're right he clearly does have an ego and tbh I'd imagine most wealthy businessmen do, at the moment though these little things are very minor gripes in the grand scheme, the issue is if they stay as this or develop into something bigger. The pros so far outweigh the cons but time will tell I guess.
  • Half time would be good... much better than that shocking version of Rocketman we had last night.

Can we please ensure to always play Theme For Great Cities as everyone files out, no matter the result? Lamented its absence yesterday

I don't have a problem with Thomas wanting to have his moment.
That's part and parcel of his character and makes him feel emotionally involved with the project of successfully running this football club.

But it must be subserviant to the main agenda of the football team and the football match itself. That should always be the main course.

  • Well, maybe the players look that hungry at the moment that they want to win the play off at Wembley and not hear the song.

Surely we have only scratched the surface!

I mean Manchester City have diversified thus:

    https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/man-city-fifa-esports-england-23476325

So I reckon Addicks to Victory could be developed as an adjunct to the scintillating half-time crossbar challenge by getting inspired by:

    https://airguitarworldchampionships.com/en/category/news/

...Tony Keohane can then patent the notion and sell it around the leagues, because who at half time on a miserable Tuesday night at home to Morecambe would fail to be be inspired by Addicks to Victory presented by this guy:
