Confirmation again we’re looking for attacking midfielders and strikers. JJ said:

In other words people on the pitch who are the very aim of a football match. So why is it that nothing has happened, again half way through a window.
As always, creative players and goal scorers are the hardest signings to make. Simply because everyone wants them and no-one wants to sell them. Usually even harder in January as team's do not want to disrupt their season by selling their most important players.
As far as this window goes, there is no urgency for me.
We need a SCP style 17 man recruitment drive for next season and offload the passengers that we are carrying now.
Forget this season - it was over when we kept soppy bollox in charge for 4 games too many, everything since is just window dressing.
Beat Pompey and the Gills, then let that be an end to our expectations.
Cannot believe this level of blame is still being thrown at Adkins.
a) he doesn't deserve to be insulted b) IT'S THE FUCKING PLAYERS!!!
100% This. They have proven they can play out their skins and work as a team, it really does feel like too many just don't care.
yes but we also wondered whether that level of intensity could be maintained - i that effort or the body just not being capable? i think as somebody said before - a few key injuries, and an inability to play at 110% week in week out has lead to this slump rather than a conscious downing of tools

i'm not so sure - i think we should judge the difference once Stockley and Washington are back in tandem up front because i think Stockley's absence is what is crippling us at the moment
The lack of Stockley may explain our lack of goals atm, but it doesn't excuse the utter shite we served up on Wednesday. Performances and effort levels were crap all over the pitch.
Time and time again this group of players are well below what we expect for our club, yet every time the majority are ready to applaud them off and give them a free pass. Everyone gets the blame - Bowyer, Adkins, Roddy, Sandgaard, Basey etc - but it's time the squad took some accountability.
I say this as someone who was incredibly critical of Bowyer towards the end. It is clear as day to me that these players are the problem, doesn't matter who's in charge.
fair enough - the only thing i'd say to that though is that quite a few of the players are different to those bowyer had
The ones that "play when they want" were mainly the same ones that Bowyer had. I don't need to name them we all know who they are.

Yes miss Stockley but...
Against Plymouth away it was "they must all have Covid" to explain utter dross, now it's Stockley is missing. With Bowyer for 4 months all we heard was "center backs".
Adkins went into the season with no left back, a half fit center half with no replacement, only 3 fit center midfielders and no left winger. We got beat by 3 of the current top 6. The team were booed off the pitch.
Now I am not excusing what happened next but getting 1 point from the 1st 4 games puts you right behind the 8 ball and already the manager is in a very difficult position.
Over the last 18 months it's been utter dross apart from a 10 or so game spell under each of the 3 managers. I was a massive critic of Bowyer but I also said just sacking Adkins won't solve everything. It hasn't. And was never going to.
not sure what the answer is then? Is it the recruitment? are we not doing our due dilligence on the players characters? i look at the likes of dobson, clare, Lavelle, Lee, Gilby, Washington, Stockley, Innis, the keeper, pearce, purrington and i don't see anything but 100% effort - albeit i don't see many away games at the moment - Leko and DJ appear to have lazy / disengaged moments - i don't think gunter and davison can be accused of not putting it in, i just think their not much good - watson and matthews, not sure.
Retract this - now - and I'll retract what I'd like to accuse you of.

do we? who then? you must be talking about pearce?, purrington?, gilby?, matthews? watson? gunter?, stockley? famewo? , morgan? (forgot about the last 2 in my previous list)
For the record I don't think there's anyone in our squad who lacks effort. If there was, Jackson wouldn't have them in his squad. I mean, I can think of one player who's looked completely lost and wasn't in the last squad, but even there I'm not sure effort is the issue so much as not remotely knowing how to play any role that isn't winger in a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2

Recruitment has been poor. Under Bowyer, we used to get loan players from Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham. Now we loan from Luton.
Of course there's a Smith for every Cullen, but the fact that Arter was our marquee loan signing this season should tell you all you need to know.

What a load of bollocks Leuth. Shall we balance it out for you by saying Kirk looks shit, lazy and disinterested too when he has played.
I just dealt with him. Lazy just isn't something many pro footballers are. So when someone rolls out the Ron Atkinson cliché, I'm not going to let them get away with it

Nobody else in the squad can play the Stockley role, that's a major issue for us in his absence.
The thing it doesn't explain is why everyone else goes to shit. Why our midfield aren't providing towards goals, or our wingbacks for that matter.
I expect a combination of new manager bounce, with the players getting a ‘lift’ from the crowd and playing for Jackson’s contract dissipating, as well as teams adjusting to our new formation and play style has seen us regress back to the mean.
I know people try to simplify things, and it’s always a classic trope to fall into questioning the players ‘passion’, but in reality at highly competitive level of sport (which league one still is) there are a lot more complex processes going on that contribute to the problems we are experiencing now.
At the moment it just feels like the continuity of a downward trend, with the odd better period, we have been experiencing for a long time as club now.
Of course there are ways, though not guaranteed and not as easy as people like to make out, of at least forcing our way out of this situation in the short term - and that is to spend money getting players which are *clearly* better than other players in the league. But again, although that would statistically make us more likely to get out of this situation, it’s not as simple a process as people like to make out.
The other way is to have complete ethos change in coaching, and playing style across the board and build from there for the long term. But we seemed to flirt a little bit with that with Roddy/Adkins, and it seemed to be a disaster - though of course these things are meant to be more of a longer term project.
I just think there’s no easy way out of the downward spiral we are currently in, and at the moment I can’t see it getting any better unless we go for it in the summer transfer window and then cross our fingers and hope.
What a load of bollocks Leuth. Shall we balance it out for you by saying Kirk looks shit, lazy and disinterested too when he has played.
forgot about Kirk - id say he also looks a bit disengaged - if what i said was racially motivated would i have put clare and innis in the hard working category? what has happened to the world ? some real lemons out there
Clare and Inniss are mixed race. You did a big list of white and mixed race players who aren't lazy and two black ones who apparently are. Don't you see how bad that looks?

Bowyer not sign Shinnie then?
He did, but in addition to Premier League loans. Shinnie was a good loan signing, so is Lee, but overall quality of where we're shopping has dipped massively.
Clare and Inniss are mixed race. You did a big list of white and mixed race players who aren't lazy and two black ones who apparently are. Don't you see how bad that looks?
I think you're the only one that does. I think Doucher has a point about Leko. I don't think he is lazy, and I think he actually wants to be here but it certainly doesn't come across like at times. DJ I probably wouldn't agree with Ajose was lazy. The fact Ajose is black? Pure coincidence. We've had some lazy white players too.
It's not like lazy is always bad anyway, I just don't like the often racial associations. Astrit Ajdarevic was a rare example of a lazy footballer. He was also extremely good and I would have him back in a heartbeat
Confirmation again we’re looking for attacking midfielders and strikers. JJ said:
What we need is someone with that final pass or cross, and someone to put it in the net.
For me, or maybe many people, that person was expected to be Elliot Lee.
I can see how he couldn't hold a role down at a level higher than L1. A good player but at that height, as an attacking player, you need real deliverables in terms of goals and assists......and/or a good set piece.
Might be an argument that not having a forward that the ball can stick to impacts his productivity.

Well the two Matt Smith's were signed from Man City and Arsenal. Levitt from Man Utd. But then Shinnie/Lee from Luton, Famewo from Norwich, Stockley from Preston. One of Bowyer's best ever loan signings was Purrington, from a Rotherham side struggling in the Championship. We've had quite a few flops from Arsenal, don't think the loaning team has any relevance. I must admit I was surprised we didn't get someone from Chelsea particularly, but no guarantee that they would be successful.
Clare and Inniss are mixed race. You did a big list of white and mixed race players who aren't lazy and two black ones who apparently are. Don't you see how bad that looks?
i don't care how something looks, i say what i think and won't be altered from that by people like you - prat

Since last season we have signed Kirk, Leko, CBT and Lee I think that proves how good our recruitment was
Of course there's a Smith for every Cullen, but the fact that Arter was our marquee loan signing this season should tell you all you need to know.
So basically someone we ain't got at the moment
As long as he's not advising them on their contract situations then it's fine!
I can see how he couldn't hold a role down at a level higher than L1. A good player but at that height, as an attacking player, you need real deliverables in terms of goals and assists......and/or a good set piece.
Might be an argument that not having a forward that the ball can stick to impacts his productivity.
