Didn't see the game last night but that result definitely puts the lid on our promotion chances. Jacko seems gutted and that is how a manager who is living and breathing it (like a fan) should be. As others have said, our first 11 - 13 players, all fit and playing and we have a decent side. I'd like us to concentrate on getting rid of the dead wood and build for next season now. We need to bring another permanent striker in so lets try and do that this window and also bring a couple of younger loans in who can bed in this season and hopefully stay for next season. We can then address the rest in the summer once we can offload the Watson's and Gunter's of this world.
Blimey - we get all precious about parker and kids in the academy being sold but then are willing to take back a 39 year old who f**ked off at 16 after being with us from the age of 9 just coz west ham offered his mum a car - we got nothing for him, at least we got good money for the rest.
A "romantic return" to his first club Charlton... whom he left before signing a professional contract and then cupped his ear at the fans every time he scored against them in his career.
Well he only left about 18 months before Bowyer, career wise, yet half this forum could get home to find Bowyer on top of their Mrs after a home defeat to Burton and still bleat loyalty and center backs. Funny old game.
Surely you admitted earlier that our issues have been down to players, rather than the managers? Boywer/Adkins/Performance
Would quite like a manager to call out their BS right now. I suspect JJ is doing it behind closed doors
It's worth saying again .. for a talented young player on average to good L1 wages, a move to the London area is often not viable. He might be living in a £200,000 house in a northern/midlands town or city with his family. Little traffic, good schools, easy travel to and from the training ground. Then, he signs for Charlton, sells the nice house and for the price he gets, he can buy a leasehold one bedroom flat above a chip shop in Penge with no parking space for his nice motor and no space for the wife and saucepan lids (if he has either)
THIS i m o is the biggest recruitment problem we have, the cost of living in London, as I say, for a footballer earning good money, but a salary that gives him an inferior standard of living to what he might enjoy well outside the M25
You're way off. Do you think kids give a shit about schools and traffic? London is a big attraction for talent across the country.
Fact of the matter is, we are a bang average (if not below) team who have been in this league for the majority of the past 8 years.
way off yourself .. I am not talking about 'kids' but mature footballers with family responsibilities who care about schools, and the cost of living and living in a nice house in a nice area.. all the bollocks others comment about bars and such is rubbish .. we are CHARLTON not Chelsea or Arsenal paying the big bucks for players who usually come from abroad and want to experience the high life .. the fact you say that we are 'bang average' .. well what talent wants to come to an expensive part of the country to play for a BANG AVERAGE club and earn what will probably be BANG AVERAGE WAGES .. your contradicting yourself .. way off

We got £2.5m for him......
did we? must be the alzheimers - compensation though and no sell ons

That was a joke
There is a serious issue with some of the players, for want of a better word, mentality.

I will never not think Defoe is a prick, however he's not in the same bracket as that odious snake Taylor.

The 1 thing in his defence is that he was only 16 at the time. Very young & impressionable and maybe thought he was helping his parents out.

Taylor was none of those.
Unless his parents can stand him either and were happy to see him move north?
Defoe suggestion is terrible, if we have bought in Martin Saangard alongside Gallen and they have been identifying targets and the best they can do is Defoe then something is right surley
Just me or is anyone else not fussed if we do or don’t sign anyone? Season’s gone, rebuild should happen in the summer with planning now so make the signings we want in the first few weeks. Knowing us, we’ll sign our top summer targets now and they’ll all suffer hip/toe/ear injuries ruling them out til 2026.
Jan just average players at double the price and short term fixes …. But we have supporters ( I use that term loosely) who think we are going to spend millions on the best players in league one and higher … these teams just going to roll over and let us have their best players get real

Defoe story was a throw away comment by Simon Jordon never going to sign or do we want a player of that age .. TS as said all along we will invest in young players who can improve with us

As Jackos assistant maybe?
Surely not as a player.
Taylor was none of those.
