Who buys a winger with 2 goals and 3 assists in 28 games?!  Jesus.  It's not just our wingers then who don't pull up trees!
We’ve not had a good winger since Jerome Thomas in his first season.  There aren’t many around that are any good .
guðmundsson was absolutely class. As was Lookman
Agreed- loved JBG.  I tend not to think of him as a winger as he tracked back, happily drifted inside and evidently played as an inverted wide player , but yes - outstanding.  Lookman is more of an inside forward, but again excellent.
  • What's the probability of this being a permanent?

Spurs have been selling their young players in recent years. They're also in the market for a right back to compete with Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty. Adama Traore and Djed Spence have been linked.

Amos to QPR, Cirkin to Sunderland, Eyoma to Lincoln, Markanday to Blackburn are some examples of Spurs selling their youth in the last year and a half.
We also assumed Chuks coming back would be a loan.

Yup. I think it's likely this is a loan but you never know. Would be delighted if we can sign a 21 year old right back with plenty of pedigree on a permanent. Exactly the sort of moves we should be making.

If it's a loan, not a big deal, an opportunity for both us and the player to see if it's a good fit with hopefully a view towards making it permanent in the summer.

If it's a loan with no prospect of keeping him long term, I have to say I will be disappointed.
  • I am really starting to think that this is it for our club at least for the next 10 or so years.  There isn't really any indication that anyone that can afford the expenditure for a serious push and who understands football is interested.
Don’t you trust Thomas and his astute financial wizardry…i.e spending £300k for somebody that left for free 6 months earlier.

unless TS gets some investment, because he’s rich, but not rich enough, we can’t compete with the likes of Wigan, Sunderland, Ipswich
The forum's been over this when he signed last week but you cannot hold players against their will when they are out of contract.

If someone like Ipswich came in and bought Chuks for 300k this window, the usual suspects would be out in force asking why weren't back in for him.

There is already a certain crowd that, whatever Thomas does, he can't win. It must be draining being one of those fans.

Personally I like Thomas and his enthusiasm, especially after years of neglect and disinterest from Roland and fraud from ESI scum. I think it's great to have an owner who cares for Charlton. I just don't think he has the funds to compete with the big clubs in this league and we are going to be left behind

  • Is it Mungo Bridge ?

Sounds like it’s nailed to be Marcel Lavinier

(not ITK, it’s just the only one that makes sense)

21 years old and a right back.

  • The three surprise omissions from Spurs U23 game against Blackburn U23 the other night were:

    - Dilan Markanday (just signed perm for Blackburn first team for 500k)
    - Nile John
    - Marcel Lavinier

Nile John I reckon, can never have enough midfielders.

From my fanatical Spurs supporting mate seems he can certainly play wing back.
    Is that Danny H?

Team is crying out for a right back (and left back) that can get forward and over lap our wingers. They are totally isolated with the lack of movement coming from the wing backs we currently have. Get these two positions filled with the right people and this formation works.
Agree we need better and attacking full backs, but what formation do you mean? We’re playing 3-5-2 without any wingers, the wing backs are the only players in wide positions.

Sign a youngster - too inexperienced

Sign someone 30 plus - too old

Sign a player in their mid 20s we’ve never heard of - who? shows how far we’ve fallen

Sign an ex player - poor unimaginative scouting

Sign a player we’ve heard of in their mid 20s -past his best, why else would he come here?

Shorter than 6 foot - fails the height test, too lightweight

Sign someone over 6 foot 1 - big lump with limited ability

Sign a non-league player - if this is where we’re shopping we’re in trouble

    Have I got this right?

What we need is a hungry promising youngster with years of experience, height, strength who’s small and quick, and is an unpredictable box of tricks and known as Mr Consistent.

Mustn't be ex-Palace or Millwall either.

Sorry, I meant overlap the three in midfield.

    We don’t play with wingers?

Do you mean our midfield three is totally isolated because our wing backs lack movement? I’d agree to some extent, but I’d also argue that our wing backs are totally isolated because our midfield three and front 2 lack movement, and we bring the ball out the back in such a one dimensional way it makes us very easy to press. Hence why it feels like the majority of time they always end up playing it backwards.

RB on the way from Spurs
Are you sure it's not a LB?
Right back, young loanee. Was at the club today
Really can't see the point. Why bring in a player who wont be here past May so we just have to go through the whole rigmarole once again in the summer.

And into the bargain we are giving game time to a player from a Premiership team who will undoubtedly be off to another team next year, ala Gallagher, Bielik, Cullen, Millar, Da Silva.......

    Absolutely pointless.
You should probably try looking further than your nose instead of assuming that everybody else in the world is stupid. They’re not. We have a management team with years of experience in football who may just be better placed to make these decisions than you.

This is JJs 1st transfer window. Let’s please afford him a modicum of respect.

I've looked at his stats. He is 21 & has made 1 (ONE) appearance. That was with Spurs in a home Europa tie where they won 4-0. They actually signed him the year before from.....Chelsea.

    Whoopee Do.

Please dont expect me to be excited or even whelmed at the prospect of seeing a 21 year old with no experience try to help us survive in this division.

Yes because young players who come through Chelsea's academy are generally shit aren't they..........

You've literally included two players in your list that we signed on loan two seasons running.
We only signed Da Silva 2 years running, but we didnt signed any of the rest  permanently did we. So the following season we had to replace them. Gallagher left half way through his loan spell, which if he'd stayed I doubt we would have got relegated. If he was a permanent then we would not be in this position.

But whatever I say I wrong. I was wrong in the summer & I'm wrong now.

We had Cullen 2 years running as well

    See my post above.

No pedigree imo. No experience either.

Would be just as good playing one of our own youngsters, which I thought was Sandgaard's stated aim when he bought us.

But then again, his words have a habit of not matching his actions.
Fucking hell, Can we change your name to Eeyore!

have you ever got excited about anything this club has done?

Gallagher hadn’t played, Maatsen, Millar, Da Silva - all did ok for us

maybe just maybe this player is not a load of dog toffee and he might be here for next season too so this is a chance to settle in.  We just don’t know but can assume he’s been watched and scouted

we don’t even know who it is and you’ve written them off already

    lighten up
I'd love to be proved wrong, I really would.

I'd love any potential loanee be like Cullen or Bielik and we end up buying them & they play for a number of seasons for us. But history shows otherwise.

For the record I like Famewo & hope the club exercise the option to buy him. But some on here have been moaning lately & he was slated for his performance against Crewe.

Can't seem to win either way.
