  • RB on the way from Spurs
Are you sure it's not a LB?
Right back, young loanee. Was at the club today
Really can't see the point. Why bring in a player who wont be here past May so we just have to go through the whole rigmarole once again in the summer.

And into the bargain we are giving game time to a player from a Premiership team who will undoubtedly be off to another team next year, ala Gallagher, Bielik, Cullen, Millar, Da Silva.......

    Absolutely pointless.
Yeah but we get to watch the premier league stars of the future.
  • Likes a back pass
  • This Lavinner could potentially make our 2recognised right backs plus 2 right wingers redundant all who our own players in favour of a loan player who has never a played a league match in his life , not sure what this says about the state of our squad

Personally I think JS has done very well as a wing back.
I am not convinced by those that have filled in when coming off the bench or covering when he is injured. Mathews and Gunter don’t attack or press enough, Leko and CBT don’t defend well enough.
I don’t think our two experienced right backs will be offered another contract so I think we will be in the market for one next season.
I am hoping that if it is a right wing back coming in on loan and that he does well, we have an understanding that we can buy or loan again.
  • Won't judge him as a player 'til he turns out for us but it is comforting to hear  that the talk is about him playing at RB or RWB because that footage only served to confirm that he isn't comfortable at playing LB or LWB - constant need to turn inside and when the opportunity did present itself to take it on the outside he didn't do so. I also counted 23 passes with his right foot, just three with his left plus a clearance with that peg that had all the hallmarks of it being nothing but a "swinger".

I imagine anyone coming from Spurs Academy would come on CP's recommendation.
According to an article in the Mail he is a Fast wing back who is good on the ball and direct. He can also play left back and centre half. Picked by Jose Mourinho for the Spurs Europa Cup squad. Played for England and Portugal at youth level and has been on loan to Lyon.
    Lyon's first team.......?

I believe he was on trial at Lyon after he was released by Chelsea and that is where Spurs spotted him
  • Charlton Life discuss Lavinier. A Charlton fan sends a text to his Spurs mate to ask what he is like.  That Spurs guy tells his mate he has heard Charlton are after the RB.  Mate posts up a tweet. Other websites jump on it. Hey presto a rumour gains legs.  Then we get Mata on loan from Man UTD.
Similarly there will be people that read the comments about “backwards & sideways passing” and will spout that shit off as gospel when it’s one aspect of a 3 minute highlight video of one game.

For what it’s worth he looks quick, reads the game quite well, comfortable with the ball on either foot but maybe delayed his pass a fraction too long.

but certainly looks like there might be a player in there and as someone has said you’d like to think Chris Powell knows the lad and may have played some part in this.  Finally I’d guess it’s a loan with possible permanent -  so a “try before you buy”
  • I signed him to play lwb for welling in the championship on football manager. Very one footed defo needed to be on the right side. No this nonsense means nothing but hey ho

What on earth do we want a 39YO striker who once screwed us.

A Totally pointless, short term, panic signing.

I don’t know what this club and fanbase obsession is with ex players?

We need to move on, break the cycle and sign fresh, hungry, young players.
'Once screwed us'? How many years ago? Ballcocks. He knows where the net is. We are third division, in case you forgot.
We’re in League One - if you think L1 requires a 39 YO that can’t run or play 90mins then I can’t help you, even more so if you think promotion is still possible.

we should be building for the future not continuously looking backwards at old players.

Good to know it’s ok that the Defoe incident was years ago I look forward to you forgiving Taylor in 10 years time for the same reason.
No, you are correct. You can't help me.

And with Taylor's situation, you are comparing apples to oranges. And no, I will never forgive him.

I’ve just seen Lyle Taylor in Eltham B&Q - he’s slowly working his way to the training ground. ….
Sheesh! Don't they have sharp things in B&Q? Surprised he went in. Risk of hurting himself and all.
  • I am really starting to think that this is it for our club at least for the next 10 or so years.  There isn't really any indication that anyone that can afford the expenditure for a serious push and who understands football is interested.
Don’t you trust Thomas and his astute financial wizardry…i.e spending £300k for somebody that left for free 6 months earlier.

unless TS gets some investment, because he’s rich, but not rich enough, we can’t compete with the likes of Wigan, Sunderland, Ipswich
He did what he was advised and what was necessary. What's your problem with our owner? Just to remind you, it's not your money. (Your 2 'Likes' says it all, by the way Maccn05 and blackpoll 72). Such positive posters. B)

This is my concern too, There seems to be no logic or planning in our recruitment. Not to mention not much recruitment at all.

Big Ronnie was a shambles. Kirk was another shambles. Aneke going and then coming back and being offered a 3.5 year deal makes no sense. Now we sign an unproven youth prospect on loan and make four senior players redundant. What do we do with DJ, Leko, Matthews and Gunter after Lavinier joins? Do they join Watson in the ever growing 'good to have around the camp but not good enough to play' squad?. And we can add Defoe to that squad too if he joins.

The club looks like a refuge for injury prone old pros seeing out their playing days in London as it is.

I realise its heresy to say so but I suspect owner interference in the process. The best recruitment was undertaken when Bowyer and Gallen were left by Roland to get on with it. Everything since then has been mostly rubbish.

Agreed. He may turn out to be a Gallagher/Maatsen/Millar type signing where they are too good for our level, which are the type of loans we should be making and haven't this season (leko was meant to be I guess, just doesn't suit our current formation unless again he's used as rwb) but even then it's in a position where we're stacked.

It's going to be a long season watching this formation without the right personnel to play it consistently effectively.

Must be a young attacking left full back/ wing back around that would benefit from games.  We are well stocked on the right , even it Gunter goes

Great news , Bowyer will be gutted losing him halfway through the season , just like when he lost Connor Gallagher

    Exactly this.
Although I just get loled when I question our saviour
I'm sure if we matched Chucks wage demands he would still of gone to Birmingham, bigger club, higher level and Bowyer was the manager. It hasn't worked out for him (because in my opinion he ain't that great) and TS spent £300k to bring him back. Everyone complaining TS spends no money. When money is spent a couple of wise guys on a Charlton forum could've done it better.
Regarding your last sentence could've done it better.
We are in the bottom half of league one about 6 points above the relegation zone.
This is the third transfer window Sandgaard has been in charge of.
So I would say things could and should have been done better.

    Bye.
  • Castillo as I posted Page 41. I don't think  Lavinier is the Spurs guy.

Yes if we are able to move on Kirk and most likley Gunter on loan.

Intresting that Bowyer described him as "fat and over weight" when he rocked up at Blues......

Also both are highly likley to be let go in the summer as we don't have any full backs at all under contract for next season it can only be a positive can't it?

Out of contract in May so maybe a trial? Doucher said a left sided player so maybe this guy?
