Don't think there is too much to be read into this transfer window.
Need to do enough to make sure we are not relegated- -pretty much game over for the club as we know it if that happens and that is a very real mathematical possibility despite many somehow bizarrely seeming to believe that our squad of players who got spanked by Crewe and struggled against Cheltenham are too good to go down. Not so.
Let's work on the premise that we do/ have done enough to not be one of the 4th worst sides with the return of Chucks and perhaps another couple of loans to shake things up then it is all about planning for next season's campaign.
They will never publicly admit it because it would be poor form to do so and would end future ticket sales to say our season is effectively over in January...and may even cause the players to have the Curbs post 40 points slump whilst we only have 30 of the buggers which could be dangerous for our chances of remaining in this league.
However, unless we manage to go on a run from 3pm tomorrow that would replicate Michael J Fox's Nebraska State High school 1985 championship winning campaign with the Beacon Hills Beavers then it pretty much is cupboard full of dead rubbers for Charlton for the next 20 games.
Therefore it is all about the Summer window. Perhaps the most important window in our relative recent history in determining the future of the club in the next 5 to 10 years.
I have seen nothing so far under TS' tenure to tangibly back up the words and vocal ambitions and intentions from a football perspective and no sign of any coherent strategy to execute them successfully.
2 key senior appointments in "Isn't Wanking Great" Adkins and super CV (my son can fill in at left back) Roddy are now ancient history putting paid to any initial 5 year plan that may have existed. His son is now in the building learning the game and perhaps passing on tips to Stockley and Washington on the playing side or sharing his views on the business side of things from insight gained at Enfield Town which will no doubt yield great benefits to both elements of our club.
So, we hope that lessons have been learned and it all clicks and that as long as we all think positive and get behind Thomas, he saved us you know, and humour him then that will yield dividends on the pitch and we climb back the football leagues.
The resigning of Chuks, getting some young loanees in with a view to making them perm at the end of the season could very well be the start of the essential and critical overhaul of the playing staff that is required for us to have any chance of not lulling around in this league for the next generation. Therefore it should not necessarily be seen as lack of ambition or a sign of things to come at this stage.
Hopefully the penny has dropped that we need a lot more than a bit of can do positivity and a black box and whatever else has been our recruitment process the past few windows and we will see dramatic change this summer. There are no excuses now in this summer window....no off the field turmoil to resolve, a club hero in situ in the manager role (we hope come May) and an owner who has had enough time to get to grips with what is required to progress us as a football club.
As I always say, can't expect him to blow his fortunes on us...i wouldn't throw all my dosh away on Charlton and don't expect anyone else to.
But this summer's window is so crucial in getting a real understanding of where we are in terms of ambition and/ or ability to realise that ambition as things currently stand.
My instincts are based on being a Charlton fan for 35 plus years and from what I've seen so far under TS ownership is that I don't think we will do or be able to do enough to achieve more than a rinse and repeat of what we've had the past few years and a constant loop of players who are both underperforming/ not good enough followed by disappointing crack plastering January windows.
But hopefully it could be more like the ridiculously un-Charlton Powell squad rebuild back in 2011(Christ is that really 11 years ago?!).
By 31 August we will likely know where we are and what the foreseeable will likely look like I reckon.
I am really starting to think that this is it for our club at least for the next 10 or so years. There isn't really any indication that anyone that can afford the expenditure for a serious push and who understands football is interested.
Don’t you trust Thomas and his astute financial wizardry…i.e spending £300k for somebody that left for free 6 months earlier.
unless TS gets some investment, because he’s rich, but not rich enough, we can’t compete with the likes of Wigan, Sunderland, Ipswich
Exactly this. Although I just get loled when I question our saviour
I'm sure if we matched Chucks wage demands he would still of gone to Birmingham, bigger club, higher level and Bowyer was the manager. It hasn't worked out for him (because in my opinion he ain't that great) and TS spent £300k to bring him back. Everyone complaining TS spends no money. When money is spent a couple of wise guys on a Charlton forum could've done it better.
Regarding your last sentence could've done it better. We are in the bottom half of league one about 6 points above the relegation zone. This is the third transfer window Sandgaard has been in charge of. So I would say things could and should have been done better.
I thought you were going to have a rest from posting and give us all a welcome break.
Personally i love to read views of anyone positive or negative who actually goes to a lot of games home and away and have done for years and are as solid Charlton as it is to find. Keep posting @blackpool72
Where has all this hate come from on this site, especially towards Blackpool. I agree with him on some things and disagree on others, that's called participating on an online forum.
I love the fact that you can be at war with someone on one thread and their best friend on another. Everyone needs to have a beer/wine/joint, chill and be nice.

Agreed. As long as it is respectful and not abusive then it's healthy to argue and debate each side of the toss.
Sly or overt digs creep in on a an anonymous forum in cyberspace in a way that it wouldn't if chatting face to face in a boozer.
We don't like our beliefs/ views being challenged or undermined at it causes a requirement to do critical thinking/ shakes our world views and it's more comfortable to live in echo chambers and find confirmation bias i suppose.

How boring would the Internet be if everyone agreed with each other on everything!

Probably should've been better yes, certainly if you look at the league position. But he's been unlucky with some signings. Fans were happy when Kirk signed, but he hasn't worked out, most fans were happy when Maddison signed but he didn't work out, Lavelle who never had an injury before then got injured for months. Seasoned pro's like Gunter and Matthews have been poor when we all expected better. Also Doughty could've stayed which would've helped the left side immensely. Aneke has wasted 5 months of his career and cost us 300k.
But on the flip side of that he took over a club on the brink of administration after years and years of squad neglect, so is 3 windows really enough to turn all that round?
instead it would be about actual rumours and news, it really grinds my goat when I see 16 new posts, oh goody my simple brain goes somethings happening, instead its all about whether Blackpool is an arse, or not!
If I wanted to see a debate on how much of a wanker someone is, I would instead read about Bo Jo on every newspapers front page.
With us being linked with TWO U21 (for squad cap considerations) loan players, it definitely feels like a change of strategy back from last summer's transfer dealings where all our signings (loan or perm) were over 21, something which has caused us lots of problems as we try to juggle who's in and who's out
Mostly agree with what Rodders has said, but we do seem to be a club that constantly looks to the next window to improve.
I would like us to make some signings this window that help us for next season (like Chuks), rather than leave ourselves with yet another massive summer build to do.

Agreed - don't see the point in short term loan signings

You don't need to agree on everything, it's how you deal with it.
my comment above disagrees or challenges your post. I haven't called you a name and you haven't retaliated. I haven't demanded you stay off the thread. You can debate, argue etc and remain civil.

And I will. I'll leave you to your Sandgaard love in echo chamber where no one is allowed to criticise our great leader. Bye.
Sorry to see my post hijacked. I was simply saying that we seem to not have the resources to do more than compete at this level - based on the last 10 years we seem to be an established L1 team and our two excursions into the champ have reinforced that. I'm not criticising the owner or the manager for that, it just seems to be a fact. I see no reason for a sense of entitlement either the idea that we are too "big" for this level (clearly we aren't) or that potential owners should come in and chuck tens of millions on us.
January is not the window in which to undertake a significant rebuild for reasons that have been stated on here many times. My guess is that the loans are to fill some gaps where JJ is not happy with the current incumbents, reducing the risk of falling into L2. We will have to wait and see whether they are extended into next season or made permanent. Difficulty with a big summer rebuild is having to wait for the leagues above to sort themselves out before the leftovers make their way to the third tier, assuming we want players from the leagues above. May be quicker to get in players from lower leagues, but with a risk that they don't step up. I would expect free agents to test the market rather than sign with the first team that comes calling. This doesn't point to having a team assembled early in the window so that the pre-season can be used effectively to build a promotion challenging team for 22/23. A repeat of last summer is a real possibility.
Good signing and out of contract in May so we the opportunity to make permanent if things work out. Coming from Bows we also know he will be fit to start.

Without coming over all Lindsey Hoyle, no one has the right to influence who should and should not post on here other than the site moderators. This has been creeping in a lot on here recently and it really needs stopping now. Whether that be Blackpool, or Golfie or Ronnie Moore etc.
Crack on @blackpool72 you are a very well respected and valued poster on here.
No one wants this to be an echo chamber. It would be sh*t.
