So let me get this straight..... Chuk leaves in the summer for nothing... 6 months later we pay £300K to get him back. Now my maths is not the best but fuck !!! TS is supposed to be a genius business man. How the hell did he make millions
So let me get this straight. Chuck's contract had finished & thus free to sign for whoever wanted him. We wanted him & offered him a deal. Birmingham wanted him & offered him a deal as well. They (very likely) offered him more money & a chance to play in The Championship. After 6 months it wasn't working & he decided he wanted to play regular football elsewhere. As he is under contract we had to pay a fee (note - under contract is different to being out of contract) - a fee which is allegedly less than we paid for Stockley or Kirk.
Puts a different slant on things don't you think..?
If Chuks had signed a 3.5 year deal back in the summer a lot of people would have been happy, a lot of people not happy, I wonder where we would have been in the table, if we’d have kept him?
I guess it also provides cover for Lee. Was it LB who signed him as a #10 originally? The length of contract is probably shrewd. If he fires us to promotion next season, we can sell him at a profit to another L1 club, as I think the championship is a league to high for him.
3.5 year deal, even at £4k pw, + a mooted £300K transfer fee, has cost TS £1M+.
That’s true, but if young Burstow turns out to be the player we think he might then he will be sold for $5 million in today’s market and having a very strong player like Aneke alongside him can only help make that happen.
I know some people are making fun about the letting him go then paying a fee to get him back.
But was Cole Stockton on our radar?
Just wondered how much would get him to the valley?
If it’s 500k - 1m then I don’t think it makes the Chuks transfer fee look too bad?
All about opinions I know, just another way of looking at it.
Might mean we can bring in a goal scoring midfielder we are way too light in that area.
Elliot Lee good technical ability at times, but is way too inconsistent and corners are woeful, I can see why Luton want to move him on.
I just want to get out and stay out of this poxy league!
Other problem with Cole Stockton is we could pay £500k, but there is the risk that he will be another Paul Benson type dud - Instead we've paid £300k for someone we know should fit back into the team
£300k for a player that left for nothing only 5 months ago.
What a fantastic piece of business.
It's not ideal but he didn't want to sign an extension at the time did he?
but now he does.
Cynics might say that he tried the Championship & was found wanting
You don't have to be a cynic to draw that conclusion. Leko is another, otherwise we wouldn't have got him back on loan from a different second division side.

I’m more than happy that he’s back. we know exactly what we’re getting and in his last season with us he played quite a lot for a player with his injury record. It’s always a risk with whoever you sign. Did he make a correct decision not to stay and player under the hapless Adkins? The answer’s an emphatic yes and who could blame him. He’s exactly what we need. welcome back Chuks!
I'd like to know who you think is better for (allegedly) £300k
Well let’s go with uninspiring and waste of money and I am sure will be better about end of season
Leko and now him now great scouting
Good, we can sign that better striker at the end of the season too. Aneke, Stockley, better than Aneke, Washington and Burstow is promotion quality. Davison still needs replacing with someone better, hopefully this month rather than in the summer.
only slight concern, and probably worrying about nothing, is that chucks said jacko wants him to be the focal point of the team - well that is stockley atm so is stockley's injury bad or is he off? probably neither but just noticed it and wondered - the fact he doesn't play full games probably means it is nothing coz if chucks is a direct replacement, what will we do for the other 60 minutes of the matches?

I think he means when he is on the pitch. 99% of the time he will be coming on in 60th minute to replace Stockley.
no chance Jacko thinks Aneke can handle starting every week.
Not sure about this one. I think an impact player at best and the length of the contract worries me, especially for a player who can't play for 90 minutes and if he does needs a rest next game.
Unless it’s changed, Medical’s were a necessity for insurance purposes.
The suggestion that he may not of had one would leave the club liable should his career be ended by injury.
Also as suggested a longer term contract spreads his salary ie 15k on 18mths or 7.5k on 36mths. As is he what we need and can he do the job, I prefer to wait until he’s at least put his boots on first. 😉

I thought it also was to protect the transfer fee. If so , with his fitness record we could only probably get third party cover. 15 k for a maybe part time player seems money for old rope. Why does this club burn money on some siy transfers. Arter was another . He was on 32k apparently at Forest.
Let's immediately dispel the notion that his salary is anything near 15k and that we're paying that, until something is verifiable/comes from a normally reliable source. Nip this one in the bud early
In the main - mixed but more glad than sad - and some of those in the latter bracket are unaware of his playing time limitations:
299k more than he’s worth
I'd say result, but we're so low on players unless we get someone else in it just weakens us.
Seems mad leaving us with Juke and Hogan for a month.
Certainly weakens us, however, I guess that with the return of Chong
shortly and the additional of walker, then is that why we are going to
let him go?
I don’t think we will miss him much, looks useless
I get what you're saying in that sense, but honestly, he looks so
lacking - if we are being offered money, we should just take it and out
him down as a poor signing.
Had a look on a Charlton forum to see what their view and after wading
through a bunch of comments about how crap Leko is, it appears they
quite like Chuks and think it would be a good deal.
I'd be amazed if we got a fee for him considering we signed him on a free and it's not worked out at all...
Another failed Gardner/Bowyer signing
Made a profit though
I don't think I have ever seen such a big bloke so poor at using his
natural advantage. He's too nice. He should be smashing the arse out of
these defenders, he should be impossible to shake off the ball (even
considering it takes him four touches to try and control it, fetch it,
try and control it again...etc) he should be just bullying people and he
doesn't. He's also a non-threat in the air for his size.
Best we cut our losses I reckon.
Thanks for the memories Chucks.
Not sure we can really blame Gardner for this one considering he was one of Bowyers players before he joined us.....
Cracking bit of business tbf
Weird thing with aneke though, when he comes on he almost always gets at
least 2 chances within 10 or 15 min when we haven't created a thing all
game. Sadly he misses most of them.
He has something though and has never been given a game to be fair.
Just me that dont think he's actually that bad then?
Hard to judge a player properly that only gets the last 10/15mins of a game.
I took it to be simply what we already know - LB has been told by our
glorious masters one out to get one in. Let's face it, if we are to
improve then Chuks (Gawd Bless him) never looked a player to do that at
all.
100% agree and gave his all when he did play. The Plymouth game on the
weekend he got booked for running the full length of the pitch to tackle
a player, you could see he really cared
Absolutely this. I know he's never going to top the goalscoring charts
but he does offer some threat. Letting him go now when we're down to the
bare bones is very poor in my opinion, unless, of course, we have a
better replacement lined up and he needs to go before we can bring new
striker in?
Started 1 game in the league all season according to Transfermarkt.
He hasn't been given a fair go in my opinion. People above saying he
misses too many chances etc but I'd argue Hogan has missed far worse
(e.g. Swansea at home).
He's the only striker we have with any sort of pace and now Deeney's out
for a month, getting rid is crazy unless we genuinely have someone else
lined up to replace him straight away.
We will probably have Leko back, don't see us spending a penny to be honest in this window,
There’s a reason he’s only getting ten mins
Honestly don’t think anyone would touch this basket case .
they're the fuckin Millwall of the West and always shall be (sorry Cardiff, keep trying)
Famous west country club Birmingham City
the word West is literally in their county's name, smartie
When I read on the match preview thread that we've got him back I was pleased.
I didn't imagine that we'd spent 300 grand and given him such a long contract however. I like Chuks but he's made of glass. It's further proof to me that TS wants what we all want, but that he's got a few screws loose.

If, as is highly likely, he has passed 2 medicals in 8 months its not a current injury issue is it. If he had a degeneration type issue like Paul McGrath, Leadly King, Chris Solly etc etc we would know about it because, we'll we would.
He doesn't seem to have the multiple different muscle injuries Inniss has or hamstrings like Danny Haynes.
Without speculating on what the specific problem is I would guess its more a case of who he is as opposed to there being something actually wrong with him.
I'm just trying to imagine what this place would've been like tonight if we had lost 1-0 and Chuks had signed for say, Pompey for 300k and he scored a last minute equaliser for them against MK this afternoon.
