Athers pointing out that NZ is actually the next Test, and that a swerve to Jennings or Bairstow is still possible if their pacers trouble him
I think Jennings would only play in the sub continent. Averages over 40, against less than 20 elsewhere. Pope to open and YJB back is probably the next cab off the rank.
They would far sooner ask Bairstow to open than Pope

I think they'll be reluctant to move Pope from 3 given how that's been a problem position for so long and how well he has taken to it. They were talking about Brook as an option to open back in the summer. It's not something I would do but if they're looking to get Bairstow back in the side then thats an option.

I don't think YJB will actually be fit for NZ so it's a bit irrelevant anyway. Interesting how they do fit him in, he had that no 6 role nailed down for years when he got injured.
Hard to believe this was less than a year ago. With almost the same team
I can't help thinking that the one bloke who hasn't, perhaps, had the true recognition he deserves is Duckett. He now has in the series 304 runs at an average of 60.80 and that hasn't been as a result of one big innings. The Ashes will be the next Test but when was the last time that we had someone who looked as comfortable as he has opening?
Opening here, when you're often facing spin from the off is a very different challenge to the normal challenges of opening the batting! Especially a Pakistan team with one of their weakest ever pace attacks.
A word for Abrar. Made his debut in the last Test and he has the most wickets in the series despite playing only two matches. He has taken 17 wickets at 25.11 and the next best is Leach with 15 at 44.60

Took them a little while to adjudicate on the right lbw appeal.
Edit that jinxed it. Booo
😂😂
Reckon they will be off at the end of this over
Duckett 50* (38)
Stokes 10* (15)
