Was there. The only positive is Washington is back. The negatives ; disjointed, leko doesn’t know how to avoid being offside, disjointed and oh er disjointed
I feel for JJ. The behind the scenes structure is clearly shite, recruitment is shite - all is not well in the garden. Then we have a bunch of rather ordinary players and a lack of team spirit. No manager is going to make a silk purse out of pig’s bollocks.
and in terms of everyone going - not gonna happen. Lavelle, Pearce (?) Innis (?), Dobson, JFC, Lee (?), Stockley and Washington. Plus we have signed Chuks and Fraser and Clare. DJ will be about and probably Ben and AG.
then someone has to figure out how to make the most of the players with tactics, options and formation and buy based on that, rather than just talking to palace and birmingham and taking their scrapings.
Time for some back room changes, club management and structure changes and playing staff changes. Coaching needs a look too.
then judge Jackson when he’s had half a go with a half decent team with a half decent recruitment policy that actually fits a strategy
Currently sat on Preston Station waiting for the train back. Yet again another weak, spineless performance against a club that should be miles behind us. We had all last season to.get ready for this season and yet we are now heading for our lowest ever league position.
The owner tells us we will blow this league apart, sending the comms staff around in a Range Rover lauding it over other clubs, now its all just common sense. Well get on with telling us and sort this mess out ON and OFF the pitch
A pretty miserable season but by far and away the most depressing thing for me is fans calling for Jacko's head like he's someone that's been in the door 5 minutes.
The guy is an absolute stalwart of this club taking his first steps in management. Some of the stuff posted on here is genuinely embarrising too read. I always considered our fan base a bit different from other clubs who seem to love discarding managers after a handful of games but it seems we have gone that way as well.
No doubt if he does get the sack the same fans saying he needs sacking will be the ones posting lengthy tributes on here.
Another posted captured our issues in a nutshell. Bowyer apparently wasn't good enough, Adkins apparently wasn't good enough. Jacko is apparently not good enough.
What's the common denominator? The players aren't good enough.
I'm a Charlton fan, not a Jackson fan. I don't want our club to suffer due to being over sentimental.
I'll always back Jackson over these players, but he is the man who has resided over our worst ever run at this level and his answer to that is to continue to play the same failed system. It's hard to defend the indefensible.
I stare at it now with a kind of mesmerised expression ... vacant, tongue lolling. It's like being punched in the face.
I wasn't there today. I've seen us at Accrington in the past, and it wasn't pleasant then. But I know how the game went today. The same as most other games.
Sandgaard (insert obligatory "He saved the Club. Let's all be thankful ... blah, blah, blah" platitude) is with us for decades apparently. So, we better get used to this. It's his money and he knows best, so you 'fans' can just shut up, right?
Today was our 18th defeat in the League. And that's League 1.
We have a squad of mediocre players most of whom have never played at a higher level ... and who never will. Those with any pedigree are on their way down and/or finished. Others spend more time on the treatment table than they do on the pitch ... and we have them on long contracts.
But Sandgaard doesn't appreciate any of this. He thinks that we are one or two players away from a top two finish next season ... and all of that will take place in front of our new fans from RSK strongholds throughout the World.
Whatever else needs fixing at the Club, it starts with the education of a Danish-American half-wit (there, I've said it again). Because without a serious change of attitude, days like today will become the norm.

Yes, but why is JJ losing every game playing a formation that was rumbled months ago?
Not too much to add, but whilst I don’t expect us to be prolific upfront given the issues we’ve had in that department with our injuries it’s the defence that concerns me most. The players available to us at the back should be, at least, competent at this level but there’s no shape, no leadership and, even worse, very little effort. It’s astonishing how poor the defence is given the manager was supposedly a defensive coach before getting the big job.
I’m concerned about Peter Shirtliff’s tongue. Could swear I heard him biting it through most of that. I imagine if Charlton ask him to do Valley Pass commenting again anytime soon he’ll find an urgent need to wash his hair that afternoon.
Thought Shirtliffs summarising today was the best thing on a miserable afternoon.
He was spot on with what he said - in particular MacGillivray needed to boss his area more and we needed to win the second ball - and I thought he was pretty honest about how hopeless we were.
Plus he didn't speak endlessly, just talking when he had something worthwhile to say.
Hope Steve Brown stays in the studio with Curbs on any further trips to Northern outposts.
I dunno lads. What's the point in anything? What's it all worth? All eyes on Sandgaard now, he's got some thinking to do. That's 1 point from 21. 6 games lost in a row for the first time ever at this level, a draw last week that wasn't stopping the rot so much as the rot getting bored and taking a week off before starting up again. Lost 7 out of our last 8. Had 30 minutes to score against 10 men today and couldn't even give the impression of a team trying to do that. There's absolutely nothing of value on display week to week and I feel like I'm going insane seeing the same formation every week, only a different player is being played out of position this time as if that'll help. There will be some sad sack interview with Jackson now where he looks even sadder and complains that he definitely told the players the opposition would score and he's disappointed that we worked on not being shit and it didn't work. If Sandgaard is going to do something it should be soon, so a new man can have a look at what he's got and decide what he wants to do next season. If not then we're all-in on Jackson being able to magically fix an inability to do basic things because he's got his own players in. Call me pessimistic but I'm not hopeful that things will completely turn around because we got in better wingbacks. Dark times
Absolutely bang on the money. What I would like to have said if I had the wit and the wherewithal I have lost faith in anybody at the club making the right choices. It's truly depressing

I don’t see how seeing how someone goes is an option anymore, we aren’t an experiment with time to see what happens, we need to see progress and challenge for promotion, I don’t think JJ has the ability to make this happen at the moment. He is sticking with something that hasn’t worked for weeks and is continuing with it, sometimes admitting you are wrong can be a strength not just a weakness.
I think you miss my point, JJ inherited what he got on and off the pitch. You would have to see how any new manager “goes’ with what he’s got, and if the structure, back room, recruiting doesn’t change htf is anyone supposed to achieve unrealistic expectations. JJ is probably achieving the possible with a bunch of players that are basically 12-16th standard.
give him a chance with the players he wants with the changes needed behind the scenes. It is exactly what you have to do with a new manager, and no new manager makes the existing back room and current playing staff any better without change. Keep changing the manager is basically just doing the same thing and expecting a different result.
We have time, we are 3rd quartile, 3rd division team and there is nothing at the the club currently that will change with an in solus manager change. If a new manager has to come in, all the other stuff I mentioned also needs to happen. And if you honestly believe the current set up sans Jackson will change this team from a 3rd quartile to a first octile performing side pushing for promotion, then the most obvious change to make is expectations, not the manager. That would reduce the angst, introduce some reality and perhaps highlight the deeper issues in the corporate structure, player acquisition and team performance that any new manager would still be saddled with
I fully understand your point, but our issue isn’t one just for this season, in fact you could argue we did better in the last couple of seasons with more turmoil at the club, so in my eyes there’s a lot of excuse making being made. How many more seasons in league one, or the third division as I call it is acceptable?.
Several more years if the mismanagement and unmanaged areas of the club go without being addressed and only the manager is blamed/changed. We will agree to disagree
I missed the match because my elder son was visiting from uni and we all went to see The Batman. First game I haven’t watched in a long time. Came out of the cinema and only remembered it was in when I got home. It sounds like it was another poor defeat after a reasonable start. And I’ve seen all the calls for Jackson’s head.
Problem we had is that JJ is such a fans favourite that it was almost inevitable that he was going to get his chance as manager. The wave of euphoria after his great start meant he was soon made permanent, although I said at the time it might be too early. Like most of us on here I admit I don’t know for sure if he’s a good manager or not. But I fear there’s mounting evidence that he may not have yet learned the adaptability that you need in a sport that sets different challenges with every match.
The Gillingham match has now become quite important, a statement which sums up the awful position we find ourselves in.
Was there. The only positive is Washington is back. The negatives ; disjointed, leko doesn’t know how to avoid being offside, disjointed and oh er disjointed
Leko is up there as one of the most stupid and lazy players ever to have played for Charlton.

I honestly don’t know. You raise a good question, but I equally feel we don’t play 352 very well either so it may not be the formation.
Let’s assume the same bunch of players tried 442 and 433 under Adkins, maybe even 451, could it be possible that the players we have in the positions they play, means you can’t get anything other than a 16th placed 3rd division side. I understand that sides have “sussed” it, but honestly are we saying that if we change formation we will defend better, head, clear, pick up the 2nd ball, drive payers wide instead of inside, score more goals, get joined up midfield?
As i have said, I think the issue is expectations of this team v the reality - which maybe, just maybe, that 12-16th is the best they are gonna get however they line up
When you make a change midway through the half and your forward is moved to RWB and it doesn't even raise an eyebrow with people... what other team out there is doing stuff like that? Trying to force a formation that doesn't work. bashing square pegs in round holes, it doesn't work and it never will. Play people out of position, or try to make them adapt to a position that isn't natural to them is always going to go wrong.
Too much tactical naivety - stubbornly clinging to a formation that doesn't work for game after game. And what the fuck are they doing in training?
I've had to make a last minute dash back here Tuesday, and although the circumstances of my visit this time wasn't for the best of reasons, I always look forward to getting a game or 2 in. Except this season. My god they're a lifeless, gutless lot. I'm sick of hearing they're an honest hard-working bunch, because clearly we aren't. Opposition teams beat us because they work harder, show more desire.
It can't just be the starting 11 that allow this to happen game after game, this wank stain of a squad has shown feck all this season.
IMO I can't help but feel the likes of Gunter, Watson and other senior players are here just for a pay check, bar Pearce, who's had his day. Lavelle isn't good enough. Leko, just shite. I could go on...
It's quite a mess at the moment isn't it.
Yet still, I'll be down the valley Tuesday night. For some sycophantic reason, I've got to see this shit live.
We've talked about it all week JJ says, sounds like a case it is never coached on th training ground. Then we read a caption about the reaction of the fans to the players!
My thoughts are yes the players are poorly coached and trained, and clearly the message is not getting across. I was hoping to hear the manager apologise to the supporters and especially those poor souls who witnessed the debacle I have read about. I watched the highlights of the first goal and that shows how poor a side we are. The buck stops with the manager at the end of the day and he is now calling the players out, the same way LB did! Like other fans on the furum all we want is a 100% honesty and we are not seeing this by any stretch of the imagination.
JJ wont walk away unless he is paid off!!!
The recruitment was a disaster and the people responsible for this season right through to managers/coaches/recruitment/players. The supporters of the club deserve better and those in the club who don't have their heart in the right place should walk, although painful, it would be out of respect for the fanbase.

Didn't we sign him with the knowledge that he couldn't do this already from Portsmouth?
Swear we had stats posted that shows he keeps to his line. Why are random posters from a messageboard better than our scouts at this kind of stuff? It's basic.
Called it losing 1-2 said we would be outmuscled and outfought….forgot to add that Accy would only have 10 men for 30 mins and we wouldn’t have a shot on goal…great time to be alive and a Charlton fan
I have been going for 40 years. Got a season ticket. Helped leaflet to get back to The Valley, helped clear The Valley, went on the protest march in Belgium; convinced my kids to support us, travelled up and down the country to games, posted on here over 10k times. Today I had a free log in to watch and couldn't be bothered so went out and enjoyed a nice afternoon then watched the rugby.
Fill The Valley. You're having a laugh.
No idea what is wrong but it feels more like, what is not wrong at the moment. Massive changes needed in the summer I just hope we are still in L1 next season (which is a proper crazy thing to even be saying). I am not expecting to be though as our players are poor AND have given up. A unique combination.
