Formation is probably because he has always said you need 2 up top on this league, but he doesn’t trust only 4 at the back to defend. I don’t blame him….

Playing two up top for the sake of it when one of them is Leko is absolute madness.
As bad as it is, we’re obviously not going down, so I’m not sure why people keep talking as though we are. If you genuinely think we will then put your money where your mouth is, as we’re currently 80/1.

I agree. I don’t think we should chop and change manager though (again x2)
I would like to see JJ try something different as we are losing games anyway
Regardless of whether we go down or not we are in an absolute mess. We have people at the club who are what’s best for us but clearly the decision making at every level has been awful
There was a great moment down the left in the second half and we won a throw. Gunter took it and it was a foul throw. I think that, or DJ putting out his hand to grab the ball because it had gone out of play, only to find it hadn’t gone out of play and hand ball was given against him, had to be my moments of the match.
Really summed up the crap we’re being served up at the moment
I feel for JJ. The behind the scenes structure is clearly shite, recruitment is shite - all is not well in the garden. Then we have a bunch of rather ordinary players and a lack of team spirit. No manager is going to make a silk purse out of pig’s bollocks.
and in terms of everyone going - not gonna happen. Lavelle, Pearce (?) Innis (?), Dobson, JFC, Lee (?), Stockley and Washington. Plus we have signed Chuks and Fraser and Clare. DJ will be about and probably Ben and AG.
then someone has to figure out how to make the most of the players with tactics, options and formation and buy based on that, rather than just talking to palace and birmingham and taking their scrapings.
Time for some back room changes, club management and structure changes and playing staff changes. Coaching needs a look too.
then judge Jackson when he’s had half a go with a half decent team with a half decent recruitment policy that actually fits a strategy
Yes, but why is JJ losing every game playing a formation that was rumbled months ago?
I honestly don’t know. You raise a good question, but I equally feel we don’t play 352 very well either so it may not be the formation.
Let’s assume the same bunch of players tried 442 and 433 under Adkins, maybe even 451, could it be possible that the players we have in the positions they play, means you can’t get anything other than a 16th placed 3rd division side. I understand that sides have “sussed” it, but honestly are we saying that if we change formation we will defend better, head, clear, pick up the 2nd ball, drive payers wide instead of inside, score more goals, get joined up midfield?
As i have said, I think the issue is expectations of this team v the reality - which maybe, just maybe, that 12-16th is the best they are gonna get however they line up
I don't disagree and yet at Morecambe A, prior to KO, I was talking to a fan that thought we would get automatic promotion. I disagreed, but did think we might just sneak in the play offs on the last game of the season.
It's something to do with the effort put in. At Sunderland A, we were impenetrable and the players gave 100%. Today, they gave about 80%. The question is why?
Could we become the biggest club ever to be relegated to the 4th tier without the assistance of a points deduction?
Wolves 1986.
And Burnley who won the Fourth Division in 1991–92. By winning the fourth tier, Burnley became only the second club to win all four professional divisions of English football, after Wolverhampton Wanderers.
As bad as it is, we’re obviously not going down, so I’m not sure why people keep talking as though we are. If you genuinely think we will then put your money where your mouth is, as we’re currently 80/1.
If we lose at home to Gillingham on Tuesday, we won't be 80/1.

Another one was when Leko managed to do some sort of cruyff turn type skill that went out for a throw in. It confused everyone, including the lino, who bizarrely gave the throw our way.
There is no leadership on the pitch. There was last weekend when Pearce gave his all. I’ve not read every word of this thread so more may have been said already about him being our first player subbed off today. Was it injury? If not, I don’t understand.
Macgillivray is not good enough and the rot starts there
Lavelle may be about 15 years younger than Pearce but he’s even slower with less positional sense - sorry, not one for the future imo.
Stockley has prima donna tendencies despite being a very average L1/2 striker.
Fraser faded in and out today and his corners were mediocre. Albie would get pellters for such a performance. Fraser gets a bit of a pass due to being in covid recovery phase.
All four of the above are under contract for next season. Are they the spine of a promotion side? Serious doubts here, I’m afraid, unless we’re talking promotion from L2 back to L1,
I didn't see the post match Jacko interview, I was too annoyed with a crap display.
We're winless and have been shit for 7 games. Jacko is probably guilty of many things, but I can't see how calling out the players for a gutless, brain dead and inept display can be one them. Say what you want about the formation and tactics, I didn't agree with Fraser and Lee in the midfield or Clare at rwb, but look at our defending for their winning goal.. It's mental from the players, we're supposed to have 3 cb's and they've all either gone missing or been bullied, even that's forgetting wing-backs who should at least be on the scene and covering. You can bash tactics and training but surely it's commen sense for a professional footballer?
I still don't know if Jackson is the answer or not, I just can't work out how it's all gone so tits up since his appointment. There'd have been outrage if he hadn't got the job when he did, even at the time some of us saw it as an insult it took so long.
Maybe this makes me a Jacko apologist, but I don't trust half these players as far as I could throw them, they've played many different formations for different managers and been useless. I hope we chuck most of them out and start fresh. If Jackson has to go, I hope it's not a few weeks into the summer, we need to be focusing on preparation for next year. Problem with that, is that we're so damn crap at the minute we can't even be sure we're safe this year.
What a depressing season. I'm coming over for Burton, will be my last game before leaving the coumtry for work for a year or so. I hope I can end on a high.. I don't feel too confident at the moment.
Jackson had a transfer window and signed zero centre-backs and a wing-back that hasn't really played. Signed two attacking midfielders instead (1 of which, again, hasn't played).
If this was the formation chosen, surely those were the priority. That's why he should get (some) blame for this mess.
This.
Also, he wanted the job. He knew the players he had at his disposal & has been here long enough to know their strengths & weaknesses. It was not as if he joined us on 1st feb not knowing the players or not having a chance to bring in ones he wanted or would fit his style of play. Again we see weakness either from the recruitment '"team" or from the manager. If he didnt get the players he wanted in January (John hasn't started a match and Castillo hardly better) he should say so & walk. I hate people who dont stand up & say it as it is.
Whole club has become just too cozy, too nice ! No wonder players like Leko and Aneke jumped at the chance to come back!.
The club are trying to be all things, to all people and do do some magnificent work in that respect. But in doing so, we have forgotten the art of being successful on the pitch, and winning football matches. So much discussion, so much concern about trivial matters like changing the Women's team name to "ladies". Then I heard about the "importance" of having the Women's and Men's team, integrating at the training ground! I'm sure it must be a lovely place to go to for a laugh and a chat !
Sometimes players need a good kick up the arse, rather than an arm around the shoulder, to get the best out of them. I'm not seeing a Kinsella or Robinson. I'm not seeing a Hales, Paul Miller, Steve Thompson character, with that nasty streak that is required to climb the league's. I'm not seeing that determination, that hatred of losing, from any of this mob, they just roll over, every single game.
As bad as it is, we’re obviously not going down, so I’m not sure why people keep talking as though we are. If you genuinely think we will then put your money where your mouth is, as we’re currently 80/1.
Respectfully If we keep losing games with the occasional draw we could easily go down. and let’s be totally honest this bunch of shite do not want to try let alone play for the shirt. Our rock n Roll ego trip owner will never invest the sort of money required to make this club a good championship side, let alone premiership side as he cannot afford to, and 90% of his personal ( excluding JJ) know fuck all about football.
.....but as Brownie hinted in the studio earlier, there's more to this situation ( than meets the eye ? ) What the feck could that mean ? And as another Lifer stated, our ex defender looked quite emotional when Jacko's demeanour was mentioned....or am I imagining this ?
I saw this too Jean. He looked like he got choked up, and to me was visibly upset.
I think that a lot of the squad tried to impress JJ when he first took over in an effort to get a new contract next year. Since then a lot o them know, probably through their agents, that they will be let go. Some may have been told that another club has been lined up and to look after theirselves ( do a Taylor ). So, basically, they don't give a shit about the club.
May I be the first to suggest Dave Challinor at Stockport be approached at the end of the season, whichever division we are in. Has a great track record as manager and clearly knows how to get the best from players.
Certainly an excellent manager - we could be playing County next season.
As bad as it is, we’re obviously not going down, so I’m not sure why people keep talking as though we are. If you genuinely think we will then put your money where your mouth is, as we’re currently 80/1.

125-1 with Bet365. Hate to say it but there are worse 125-1 bets out there
The only saving grace of those highlights is their brevity. So this is what we’ve become. Outplayed on a glorified public park by a 1950s comic team (no offence Accrington - loving your story and your now officially better than us).
But don’t worry lads and lassies, the spine of the team is there for next year. No it effing isn’t! See the excellent observations from @Weegie Addick a few posts above. Bloody spineless in more ways than one. Where to start. Well there is nothing like a commanding goalkeeper and MacG is nothing like………Lavelle - there’s a quite excellent Donkey Sanctuary a mile up the road from my house. If he every takes the kids he’ll never escape. Stockley - when will all the sycophants on here realise that our talisman is nothing other than a bang average league 1 level striker. Yes he improves this side. There’s no doubt about that. We miss him. He’s a lovely articulate lad and he gives a shit. But there is no way on earth he is the future if our ambition is the championship playing progressive modern football. He bombed at Preston remember. Washington. Again we miss him. But he’s just a good honest trier (we don’t have many of them!!!!! ) who couldn’t get a game at Hearts in the end. Not seen enough of Fraser yet to comment so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. So there you have it folks. That’s our spine. The rest can foxtrot Oscar because they are either talentless or not trying a leg (or both). Two or three additions my fragrant Scottish arse.
Edit: I forgot George. Sorry Dobbo, you’re exempt from this vitriol.
And so to our coaching, medical and recruitment teams. I love Jacko. He’s given me many happy memories. In a very perverse way I almost hope that dear @Fanny Fanackapan is correct and something deeper is afoot whether that be interference from above or whatever. Otherwise I’m bound to the conclusion that JJ isn’t up to it and I don’t want to be. I also fail to see that the recruitment of an assistant whose entire, albeit laudable in its own way, service has been lower leagues or non-league is helping our cause. Maybe we’ll need his expertise when we get there!! Enough said already about our capacity to break perfectly healthy players but FFS stop recruiting crocks in the first place!!!!!
I can’t honestly say that I’ve got out of bed on the wrong side this morning cos I’m still in it. All I can say is that I’m glad there are at least four teams that, unbelievably, are even shitter than us. I still can’t see four of the teams below us getting past us even if we fail to win another point but there is a faint squeak coming from my nethers. Get nowt out of the next four games and who knows. Lose on Tuesday to our dear neighbours though and I suspect what’s left of our support may begin to turn. Fill the Valley!!! Making a good job of f•••••g emptying it!!
Now with all that’s going on in the world none of this matters a jot of course. A bit of perspective is a good thing. But I’ve never felt more miserable about this little part of my life. The sad thing is I can’t really see it getting much better anytime soon. Despite JJ’s tub thumping (he’s only saying what we are all thinking but whether it’s helpful to his own personal cause to say it is another matter), I suspect we are stuck with a fair number of this shower of shit for next season. Hopefully TS proves me wrong. After all it’s a doddle this football club management malarkey. I continue to wish him well but this becomes more of a soap opera every day.
Rant over. Thanks for listening. I’ll feel better after some sausages.
Serious questions have to be asked of Jackson now. Week after week he comes on Charlton TV, says the players haven't done what he's asked them to do, they didn't do this, didn't do that. If the players aren't listening to his supposed instructions, then wtf is he still doing there? Why is he still playing the same players? Why do we have full backs and midfielders at centre back and attacking wingers playing wing back. Have the likes of DJ and Leko and CBT ever in their lives played wing back before this season? None are defensive minded, so why does Jackson expect them to play that role to any satisfactory level?
I get our players aren't doing great, but i'm not having it that they're not better than 17th in league one. We do not have a worse squad than Accrington, Burton, Cambridge and Cheltenham. The buck stops with the manager.
He won't change the formation, he seems tactically poor, there is no plan B, we can't defend and we create very little. In 4 of the last 6 games we have had 1 shot on target or less. You're simply not going to get many points if you're as poor as that going forward.
In 30 minutes against 10 man Accrington we didn't have a shot yet still he persists with 352 game after game. This formation isn't suddenly going to click, the players look lost and too many are out of position. If there were some encouraging signs, we were creating a lot but just not finishing chances then you'd say stick with it, but we're fucking hopeless and there is nothing to give us hope.
We seriously need to go 4231 or 442 or 433 for these next 2 home games. Play players in their natural positions and see how we go, it can't be any worse than the 352.
We have to fix the defence. Would any of our current defenders get into, say, the Portsmouth team? I don't think so and Pompey are not much better than average.
I wonder how much better our defence would be if we had a better and more commanding keeper? If the defenders are as nervous about Mac as I am when the ball goes into our box, it’s not surprising we are where we are. Mac has been responsible for a number of goals this season, it could be at least 10, it might be more.
As bad as it is, we’re obviously not going down, so I’m not sure why people keep talking as though we are. If you genuinely think we will then put your money where your mouth is, as we’re currently 80/1.
I know, why can’t people just be happy with sixteenth in League One?
