Good points about today were that Jake Forster Caskey is so much better than Gilbey all day long at being a creative midfielder. Gilby got sent off because he’s not quick enough.Nor for that matter is Matthews, Purrington, Stockley. Corey and George and Washington and Jake are the kind of players that we need to build on. Conor, Although he missed loads, he creates his own chances and he’s great at taking a ball from long range so I have no problem and nor should he at the chances he missed today because they were largely of his own making. Yes it was disappointing today especially when Leko lost his man for the second goal and you have a tired and slow Matthews trying to catch his man and failing. George Dobson cannot be the only person who catches his man and tackles if we are to win games regularly. So yes Forster caskey is the big positive news of today as I think if we had started with him the outcome may well have been different.
Matthews was replaced by Leko, so not his fault for the second goal
Still think the worst moment of the match was in first half at 0-0. Ball broke to Matthews in their box. Took a touch and put one of the worst crosses you will ever see which went to their defender.
I think we have been so poor this season that I'm not that down on that result. It didn’t matter if we won or lost. JFK came on and added a touch of class. Just thinking he might be fit for next season makes up for the result. Big surprise for me was Matthews. He was actually very good today but he does this every year to sneak a new contract. I think his good performance today doesn't make up for all the half arsed performances he has given over the years All you want are players that give 100%. Lee has been crap for months but he always tries. Matthews has a terrible attitude picking and choosing when he wants to try. He has to go with Bale's golf pal Gunter as they are cheating the fans. If there is space in the taxi take Gilbey too.
I like Lincoln so glad they will probably stay up.
We were the better team minus a player they were such a poor side however, yet we still lost.
The defending for their first was park league stuff and Leko bottled a challenge for their second.
Strikers missed a hatful and until JFC came on our one tactic was to kick it to CBT and let him run but his distribution is dreadful so it is not a great strategy.
JFC got us playing. Him signing up and staying fit is massive for any chances of us putting a vaguely competitive squad together for next season.
JFC did enough today to show he’s head and shoulders above Fraser, Gilbey and Lee in class and football brain. IMO - If he wants a new contract, give him a new contract
Just feel so empty with everything Charlton at the moment. Like I didn't even know who we were playing today. Just feels awful at the moment, probably just me but my interest for Charlton at the moment is at an all time low. Squad we have is depressing just full of plain Janes.
Actually, that's not depressing. Plain Jane was only disguised as plain. If these players turn out next season to play football as beautiful as her then we'll be in football heaven. Await the transformation!

You might wanna get a minibus. Not sure I agree that Lee is crap, his downturn came at a time of overall crapness and a loss of strikers imo. I haven’t seen anything from Fraser that makes me think we bought up from Lee

Didn’t they call her plain Jayne super brain???, our lot are thick as shit!!!!!🤣…… this should be on the would ya! thread anyway👍
Lincoln surprised me with their passing and movement, which I thought belied their position in the lower reaches of League 1. They largely controlled midfield and passed the ball with intent when they got forward. We only, however, have ourselves to blame, given the number of opportunities that we missed - with Washington a particular culprit - whilst our inept defending for the first goal, with a series of feeble tackles on the edge of our box, handed Lincoln an initiative that they never surrendered.
A draw would probably have been a fair result overall but it was not to be. Not the worst performance but a big improvement and major reinforcements are required if we are to mount a meaningful challenge next season. One big plus was to see JFC back on the pitch - hopefully he’ll be able to offer Dobbo some much needed support in midfield.

Damn! You saw through the weakness in my argument. Anyway, don't be daft - who wouldn't? Neighbours was pure 80s eye candy. For a would'ya you'd need to use a more up to date photo
Regardless of the result,I must admit Jacko mystified me today, why did we have 4 loan players on our bench.Surely now is the time to try some youngsters out,Kanu for sure might benefit from a run. Also where is Jayesimi, why did we take Matthews off, this was his best showing of the season, lekos first involvement was a half hearted challenge which resulted in their second goal. Both of their goals were once again scored by players cutting inside, virtually unchallenged, these were probably the only two they had on target all day,we had 18 attempts, and scored once.Something has to change.
I just hope that TS and those in charge of signings over the summer don't sit back and think just another 4 or 5 like for like players will do. The rest of the division will be adding and building as best as they can finances permitting . There has to be a serious recruitment of quality in the Summer, at least 7 to 9 players in who have to be better than the ones going out if we're going to get out of this league.
Like at Doncaster last week we dominated possession and chances but failed to take them. The difference this time is that Lincoln had enough quality to take advantage of some lax defending to punish us. This game showed very clearly why we are in dire need of one or two better strikers and a couple more reliable centre defenders. We lack both clinical finishing and uncompromising defending so it's hardly a surprise that we're going to finish around mid-table Conor Washington ran his heart out as usual but was again profligate with the many chances he had. Jayden Stockley was worse, possibly his worst game for us despite getting our lone goal.
After going a goal behind I don't think many people - including the team - expected us to come back to win. That setback was compounded by Gilbey's red card for the most ridiculously stupid pull back of the opponent's shirt having previously been booked for the same offence. We have by far the worst disciplinary record in League One despite being more than a little namby-pamby in our challenges (epitomised by their number 7 waltzing across our penalty area and through some half hearted challenges before scoring). That's primarily down to stupidity and petulance and needs to be stamped out by Jacko and his coaching team.
Finally, great to see JFC back after his injury and he added some quality to the midfield despite being obviously rusty.
It wasn't bad entertainment but it was shocking quality. Thankfully, we're nearing the end of the road for several of this lacklustre squad and, being ever the optimist, I hope to be seeing a much stronger team/squad put together for next season.
2 proper centre halves on the bench was the problem. It's a specialist position. Playing Clare and Purrington in the back three was why we got caught out today.
Thumping the ball up to Stockley is pointless when there are 2 or 3 defenders on him.
The reality is that we're not a very good team. We're not a bottom 4 side, hence we beat relegation strugglers Gillingham and Doncaster, and a Burton team sliding down the table (they lost 3-0 to Morecambe today) but against anyone moderately good, we struggle.
Yes we should have got something out of today, but considering Lincoln were 18th before today, that's hardly something to get excited about, considering our comparative fanbase and budget.

Nothing to do with having better defenders or strikers IMHO as the shape and tactics leave us exposed time and time again at the back and to slow going forward as we concentrate on playing sideways.
Were there defenders better than ours? No. Were they better organised? Yes.
We are to slow and never attack any space, we are just to rigid
We don't have the players to play 3-5-2 so why are we playing that formation?
Awful football. Not sure if I will be renewing or not.
Unless the season ticket prices are going up a crazy amount, I don’t think the early bird is likely to have as many takers as the club would hope, I’m certainly keeping my powder dry until there is some concrete proof of learning from there mistakes this pre season. Show me some good signings and I’ll show them my money, even if it’s going to cost me more.

Was it really so bad that the thread is 'Non Sports Related?'
