It's the Swindonian we didn't expect!

Presume that's Egbo then?  They don't actually say!

Love how it’s another one kept completely quiet. I thought Johnson following us and TS on Twitter pretty much confirmed he was our new right back!

Mandela Egbo was really highly rated at Palace. He went abroad to Germany but it didn't work out for him. Sounds like he rebuilt well at Swindon and he knows Garner's way of playing so that's brilliant. Weirdly there was an Athletic article asking what happened to the great Academy hopes of every Premier League team who didn't really make it. One was Egbo, and weirdly one was Stockley for Bournemouth. Maybe we'll buy them all up

Charlton Athletic are delighted to confirm the permanent signing of attacking right-back Mandela Egbo

If Marquis signs there is no high press coming

And doesnt fit in with the so called " buy young & then they have value if you want to sell them".

He's 30. Should be buying players around 23,24,25.

Its like nothing has been learnt over the past 2 years.
If we bought a whole squad of players who were 23-25, you'd be moaning we needed more experience!
I'm just reiterating what we keep on being told.

    Youth
    Saleable
    For the future.

But then again, when did Sandgaard's actions match his words.
And you’ve interpreted that to mean that every player we buy from now on must be 25 and under or TS is not true to his word on this?

Among many awful takes by you that’s got to be up there with the worst.

    No, not every one.

But I'd like to see us bring in a young pacey striker, not a 30 year old lump. Start as you mean to go on.

    But hey ho.
So, so far we have purchased a 26 year old ball playing centre back, and a 24 year old attacking right back.

Maybe you might even get your pacey striker Golfie ;).

Great being in League 1, signing all the players I've never heard of. Not like in The Premiership when we signed Murphy & Rhommadahl. No expectations & nothing to live up to.

He might still be. We do need two players to replace Matthews and Gunter…

I guess it doesn't necessarily mean we're not after both, we need squad depth.

But harder convincing both to sign for the same spot unless one or both can play elsewhere too?  Johnson at CB, for example, or a RCB/RWB combo if we play 3 at the back.

Look like a couple of very solid free transfers that fit right in to the style the manager wants to play. Happy with the business so far

We must be close to the point where the Marquis and Bostock rumours can be written off…
I'm starting to think the club 'leaked' those to try and find which people were spreading info

It's interesting isn't it. I bet reducing the leaks makes it much easier to sign players without other teams getting involved, but it doesn't do any favours on the whining front. I dread to think how much Sandgaard has got into his inbox about us not even being in for any players right before we sign two very decent looking defenders

You spelled 'the inevitable re-signing of Adam Matthews' wrong.

I do like that video in the stadium. Good bit of swagger. Seems an energetic and positive character. In fact, looks like he's got more persona the Matthews and Gunter already.

In light of our pending new manager, what do we make of the Swindon full backs? Seen as that’s what we desperately need.  I know nothing about either anyone shed some light?

One is from London (Egbo, right back), the other Chatham (Landolo, left back).  Both fairly young with a bit of experience under their belts, I think the right back was at palace when Garner was there so obviously someone he likes.
Just to add, seen a lot of comments from Swindon Twitter saying “That’s Egbo gone then”.  Clearly highly rated.  I’m convinced if he goes in for any of his former players it’ll be him.

Are we actually assembling a decent squad?! With players that fit the managers philosophy of how we want to play??

Of all the Swindon player we were linked with, he was one I wanted based on watching a couple of their games late on in the season. Seemed to come in to them late on in the season and made an immediate impact. Sign the other right back from Portsmouth and that's the right hand side dealt with IMO
  • I know we all love a rumour (hence this very long thread) but i kind of admire the fact our signings are being done seemingly without even a hint of them being announced anywhere else first.

I know Gallen always says that we dont sign players based on position first, but more when they become available.

But its awesome we're sorting the defence out now rather than later.

Not just because its the weakest area - But if we can go out to Spain with a left footed Centre-Back (hell that could still be Elerewe), and a Left-Back in the building, then we can look into building the foundations of the starting eleven as early as possible - and hopefully get them so comfortable together, we cut out the stupid mistakes at the back.

So much more inspiring to sign someone young and hungry than Matthews on another 1-year deal.

Erm, who needs to defend when we will have 99% of the possession and 4000 shots a game ;).

Better, younger players from League 2
On paper this IS a change from previous years
Whilst not fully convinced yet, I'm optimistic

*Might stop people abusing me now
