If appointed , we’ll have to get behind
him, but realistically will he make it past Christmas?

How are you lot writing him off before his even been confirmed? He took a team with seven players when he arrived, to the play offs. He has experience with youngsters, working with the youngsters at palace who are now in the prem. We are in league 1, what are you expecting, Pep or Klopp? Wake up, we ain’t very good, and this is what level we are at.
This is about where I’m at and willing to give him a chance and wish him all the luck in the world but disagree that this is the level we are at. For starters I think Taylor would have been a better appointment and has a promotion on his CV. However I do think the pond we were fishing in was restricted by TS and his recruitment set up. On the plus side Swindon barely had a team before kick off last season but made the play offs. Good luck Ben, you are going to need it.
Mate we are currently a mid table league 1 team, that lost to Accrington Stanley home and away last season and got dicked by Cheltenham at home. Who are we going to attract? Matt Taylor may have been an option but may have turned us down or we turned him down. Who knows! Good luck to Garner, I bought my season ticket weeks ago and will be there none the less. Some need to calm down.

All I can say is his interview must’ve been a blinder. Sandgaard has got some serious explaining to do in order to get the support back onside. Already said I’m not impressed with this and now won’t be renewing my ST. This geeza couldn’t even get Swindon out of L2. How’s he gonna get us into a position where we’re contenders. Scrapping the bottom of the barrel springs to mind. Good night … Totally bemused with this appointment.

Ben Garner actually ticks a lot of boxes.

"he's a phenomenal person. He's a top, top coach, his attention to detail is unreal and he sees things that we don't see. He's a class act all around".

Very much focused on developing young players.  Similar back ground to Beale in that he has a lot of coaching experience despite being quite young.

Knows the area as well so would pass the sat nav test.
    #boom
Boom when he does well, not yet
  • I've little faith in Sandgaard but come on chaps let's give the new bloke a chance.  Big opportunity for him and getting named managers with success was unsuccessful. It is underwhelming after we've whipped ourselves up recently over the likes of Beale and Taylor but who knows he's a young bloke with non Charlton connections and seems to have done well from a poor starting point at Swindon.

As has been said we're an average/ mediocre established 3rd division side at present with some potential but not going to have divine right to necessarily get big names.

If the player recruitment turns out to be shit this pre season then we can have the hump but managerial appointments are a lottery and none of us truly know who would work out as proved when 99% of us demanded Jacko got it and many were pleased with Adkins.

Let's get wholly behind whoever comes in and the players.  We support the club after all.

Would never dismiss him and wish him well, but can’t believe he was first choice.  Does TS know something we don’t?

I will give him 100% support and hope he does well, but he seems like we don’t really have much of a plan on the football side under TS.

Just my opinion, but I think it’s good intentions without a footballing foundation to push us further on.

Hoping I’m wrong and we push on now, and at least we’ve got someone in by the end of May and he has 6 weeks to try and get a starting XI together

The entitlement of some of you lot is hilarious. We're a mid table league one club, we've just picked up a manager that is young, improving and plays an attacking game.

We're not Premier League or Championship anymore. Beale or Taylor may have been more exciting, but there's every chance other clubs can pay them more at the level above.

I’m totally underwhelmed if this is true.
It’s another Adkins type mistake, and we will waste another year trying to get out of this shitty division.
I will be doing a Duncan Bannantyne.

I watched this after Sausagedog (lol) first mentioned Garner. Worth a listen if you want to know more about his coaching philosophy:

Welcome, Ben Garner. Just hope he does better than our last one season wonder from Swindon (Nicky Ajose). Guess we won’t be selling Davison.

  • Oh well at least I look forward to him bringing Jonny Williams back with him and Davison getting a new 5 year contract.

I wish him well but truly uninspired by his appointment.

Do you support good chaps or the football club?
Part of supporting Charlton is showing loyalty to Charlton.
Part of loyalty is having due regard to good servants of the club.

Was convinced it was gonna be Beale so maybe why I feel like a kid who didn't get what he wanted for Christmas.

Obviously hope he does well though.......

I feel the same. I think if Beale was ruled out quickly, then it wouldn't hurt as much. Just wanted Beale :(

Wonder what the plan would have been if Josh didn't miss the chance in the 1st leg or the pen in the 2nd leg?
