I wonder why some people trusting TS over Cawley (someone that has for years provided consistently accurate information) on this one . All of a sudden, for some, Cawley is a chancer that doesn’t check his sources and goes with whatever he reads on Twitter .  The blind faith in TS is absolutely baffling .
A fair question, Cawley has been wrong in the past, but I believe that he believes his source. No ill will towards him for that. TS is starting to frustrate me a bit now. He is in the UK this week so expect an announcement very soon.

If it is Garner I'd expect an explanation of the denials and rebuttals.
He's arrived. Should hopefully hear something soon...

TS is over here now and, by next week (when the players are back on the 16th), it feels likely we'll have a new manager. And it'll probably be Ben Garner. Thought it'd take around a month/6 weeks to get sorted, and here we are. The weird communication via his wife and Cawley + some fans (and the following non-statement) was an odd turn, but that's just the dumb stuff that is Twitter. Don't really understand the legal implications of all that, but it's probably some law about contracts or something that would mean we could get sued.

I don't get the ire towards TS on this issue, but wider too. He has over-promised and under-delivered on our progress, but he has put his hand in his pocket to sustain the club and bring in players. I think there is some naivety regarding how hard it is to get out this league and the time required to do that, but I believe we can yet move forward. There are many, many other bad actors that could quickly ruin this club if they got their hands on it, and this is key to remember. We are entitled to nothing and we are where we are. Only way we get out of this is smart investment in people on and off the pitch, and our relatively inexperienced owner is still learning this.

A good manager is the keystone for everything. I want one in place as much as anyone, so we can focus on bringing in players with the good grace of whoever is in charge and focus on our targets in the league. Ben Garner still might not be the right man and could be out by October too, but that's football. That said, I think he represents a good kind of manager that could channel his L2 progress here.

I thought we agreed it would be better that he said nothing on all matters?

The bottom line for me with TS is that his enthusiasm and desire to own a football club clouded the reality realised by countless owners of all clubs before him of just how hard it is to run a football club. Especially in the third teir.

I've got a feeling , that tonights going to be a good night,
That tonights going to be a good , good night ,, woo hoo!
Anyone would think we're about to announce Klopp or Guardiola and not some run of the mill ,did ok in league2 manager such is the hyperbole.

It's quite astounding how far we've fallen!
And also that we should be overjoyed that we have an owner that is doing the minimum an owner should be doing, namely paying the bills and buying some players…

Of all the things going on that I am concerned with, the Garner situation isn't really one of them. Haven't a clue if he is the right man, and would have liked a manager sooner. But really, once he is in the building, I think the process to getting him here will be largely forgotten.

The proof of success for ownership, coaching team and players will simply be down to what happens on the pitch. And that will be dictated by what happens this summer.

My mate is getting bored with me asking questions, but got the following this AM. Sounds like the imminent word could be appropriate.

Sandergaard is in the country so it should be announced soon. As before. Garner is a done deal and they are dotting I's and crossing t's on the other two. Compo debate on going but not miles apart.

I've read, with interest, the last 246 pages of this thread on a regular basis. All the different rumours, some people reading twitter etal and making up their minds it must be true. TS gets hammered for not moving to OUR timescale, then he gets hammered when Garner was first mentioned that we are shopping in Aldi when it should be Waitrose, then as people read up on Garner they then think, oh, this could be a good appt, followed by why are we haggling over compo, why is he not here yet...so on and so forth.
Next its about Cawley and he has said this and that about Garner.....Club says not agreed.....people asking for a statement of some kind on OS (or from the club), they get one and then say...better to say nothing at all!! Whichever way this cuts, it doesn't seem to matter what TS does, he is dammed if he does and dammed if he doesn't. On a football forum there will always be difference of opinions and that is healthy, but what, in my opinion, is not healthy is the amount of 'vitriol' that TS and his family seem to be getting across social media.
Yes TS has made mistakes, quite a few tbh, but he has sunk a considerable amount of his own dosh into the club and surely has the right to take his time to get this next appt right?
However leaving all the above to one-side, I would like to offer a potential reason for the different takes on the Garner situation-:
Could it be that, as we are taking a manager from another club, the current club, Swindon, have asked for and got an official NDA in place? This would stop TS being able to confirm anything as fact. This NDA could also cover Swindon's ex - DoF and Garners coaches? A local journo from Swindon and Cawley did some digging and announced what they did, but CAFC, and indeed, Swindon Town FC have not confirmed any of it....publicly.
Swindon may even want to announce themselves, first, that Garner is leaving and at the same time give the name of their new Manager?
Broken NDA's can be expensive and TS may just be thinking that this money could be spent better than paying out for a breach of an NDA?
No-one knows, me included, if the above is right or wrong, but it would explain certain actions. It's no-ones fault, my guess is the Swindon journo and Cawley wanted to get a 99.9% true story out there in the public domain, but all CAFC can do is deny a deal is done, and that could be factual, if we haven't signed up Garners coaches yet.
Do I think it will be Garner - Yes - do I think he could be a good choice - absolutely - do I think it will be announced this week - Yes, along with his coaches and maybe the DoF.
As for us supporters, we just need to sit back and see what transpires, BUT biting the hand of the person who feeds you could be a very dangerous course to take.
Whether you like it or not, TS owns the club, is trying to sort out the mess that was left by RD, ESI and co. That is not going to happen overnight or 18 months in my opinion, however TS has a BIG season coming up, if he gets it wrong it'll cost him another £8m, get it right and 'happy days' for all.
The above will not sit well with many on here, but, only time will tell and time is something we all have to wait for.

If there is a NDA in place then it would have been at TS's insistence not Swindon's. They wanted to go public at least a week ago going by what their chairman said on their OS.

Seeing as the players report back for pre-season next friday I'm more worried about the (usual) lack of signings than lack of  a manager. You can play a match without a manager, you cant play without players.

But this season was going to be different......wasn't it ??

Dont worry, Marquis, Aiden O´brien and Bostock will all be unvieled as soon as we annouce Garner (Officially)

Even if that did happen it would only be bad business if Marquis was a replacement for Washington or Stockley. If however he was our fourth choice striker who was on the bench instead of Davison then I would say there wouldn't be many teams in L1 who had a better fourth choice option. Similarly, with Bostock, bad business if he were one of the first names on the team sheet but if he took a squad place instead of Morgan for example, then I think it is a good move.

  • That’s easy for you to say.
He is just summarising what everyone really knows about what's going on!

I hope we hear good news soon.

Can someone let me know as soon as he is in the building?  Cannot wait to start slagging him off, whoever he is.

    (sort of joking)

Can someone more informed than me explain how a deal on compensation may work.

In my head I just see it as the classic

    ‘10,000’
    ’5,000’
    ’7,500’
    Deal

    Sort of situation.

But presume it’s more than just a numbers game if it takes this long.

I know sometimes there's a gentleman's agreement alongside money to not poach players or other staff for a certain period of time etc but other than that I can't see what else would hold up negotiations other than certain people wanting to be there for the big moment

Depends what’s written in their contracts and how negotiable that is I suppose but knowing our luck, Swindon are insisting on the sell-on fee for Nick Pope as appropriate compensation.

He wasn't here to announce Jackson or Adkins was he?  If he has been here to announce a player it's been a coincidence because he hasn't been here for all of them.

I don't think that's a reason at all.  It could be that somethings need sorting out face to face but I very much doubt he is "saving it".

Who can forget the Private Finance Initiative?! And the paying £11k for every single use of the loaned MRI scanner in our hospitals?! It is a disaster.

I’m not trying to make an impatient point here but if you’d of told me this time last month Jackson will make his first signing in a new job before we named his successor I wouldn't of believed it.

This is really naive and shows a total lack of understanding of how business operates in modern football, it is far more complex than that:

    "10,000"

    "5,000"

    "9,000"

    "6,500"

    "8,750"

    "6,750"

    "8,500"

    "7,000"

    "8,250"

    "7,250"

    "8,000"

    "7,500"

    "7,750"

    "No"

    "7,500"

    "Deal"

I’m defending or attacking it, it’s just a little surprising to me, but if his tactic is to make sure it’s the absolute right one then so be it.
