  • I like TS and appreciate everything he has done for the club, but If we are really haggling over 10s of thousands of pounds and that is the hold up we are in trouble and he needs to get a grip

I’m not trying to make an impatient point here but if you’d of told me this time last month Jackson will make his first signing in a new job before we named his successor I wouldn't of believed it.
Nearly 5 weeks, and people defend it. Total circus.
I’m defending or attacking it, it’s just a little surprising to me, but if his tactic is to make sure it’s the absolute right one then so be it.
Doesn't take a semi competent league one club 5 weeks to appoint a manager, in the off season.
Why though? What’s wrong with negotiating a deal to suit us as well as them, if I could drag the purchase of something expensive out to save a few quid I probably would, it’s not critical right now, I’ll admit I was nervous but I don’t see why haggling over compensation makes us incompetent.
Because we fucked up last season due to our inactivity all summer and lack of preparation. Jackson has been sacked nearly 5 weeks ago, seemingly without any sort of succession plan as we still have no manager on June 7th.

Since Jackson has left, he's gone on holiday, interviewed for / got a new job, and made his first signing.

Fleetwood sacked their manager May 4th, they have a new manager in place and have already made their first signing.
I'll have a wager with you now that we finish above Fleetwood...
    Wow.
    How amazing would that be.

I get all that but you know full well we have a plan as at today, they’re obviously cross t’s and dotting i’s.  I get all the frustration and I’m with you, but I think some are getting too panicked, there’s so so much time to get this summer right, the players aren’t even in the building.

I’ll fully agree with you “if” we end up with a shit squad and are looking at deadbeats come midnight deadline day.  But for now I’m happy to see if he’s leant from last season.
I dunno mate, 7 & a half weeks until the first game of the season doesn’t seem like a lot of time when we need 7/8 players for the first xi + x amount as squad players.
Fair point but that’s where we’ll probably disagree.  Im not saying he will get it right I'm saying there is plenty of time and chances to get it right.
    Plenty?
What so any side who hasn’t made a signing at this point doesn’t have much time?

It’s probable that we’ve got our man, and he’s working behind the scenes before it’s announced. It’s also possible we have signings ready to go when the window opens. Garner could well have had a hand in recruitment as he probably ‘signed’ a couple of weeks ago.
While we’d all have liked it to be announced as well, I don’t think it’s the big disaster some feel it is.
Yes, for football insiders a few eyebrows may have been raised about the optics/coms, which is a shame.
    AAAAAGGGGGGHHHHH

The window hasn’t stopped plenty of other clubs announcing signings, the date it opens is irrelevant.
This is what I mean about not getting too het up. I’m not too bothered about when the announcements are made, so long as the signings are decent. Would be nice to hear something this week of course, but next week would be ok too. The players aren’t back from their hols yet, so I’m ok with it.

I am sure we said the same thing last summer..... and the summer before that..... its like Groundhog Day. Being urged to stay calm up until 10pm on deadline day. Before we slowly realise we didnt do anything close to enough to compete.

Since then the rest of the teams seasons have finished.  EVERYONE in football has gone away.  Pre season starts up again in a fortnight.  The recruitment team have continued working.

We haven’t missed out on anything particularly exciting

It’s not exactly unheard of.  Not perfect but not as outlandish as you might think

Let’s see where we are at the end of the week
    🤔🤞

I don't care for any other club, just this one. For the job we needed to do before the end of the season, I didn't think we had plenty of time. Looks like another wasted season. Unless there is around 12 rabbits about to be pulled from a hat!

No it's not, both Adkins and JJ didn't have much say either, not really, they went to SG with a profile of a player, he came back with a list, they gave him that list back in order of priority and Gallen went and tried to sign them.

Being given a list of, let's say, 5 players, that someone else has identified, and putting them in order, and then letting the same guy go and negotiate with clubs, agents and the player, isn't having much say is it? Maybe they can go to Gallen and bypass all of that and go "remember Joe Bloggs who played well against us for Northern Twats FC? I want to sign him" and he goes off and tries, but from what the managers and Gallen have said in recent years, that's not the general way we go about our recruitment process.
  • We sack Adkins (and have to pay him off) and then JJ who, in a matter of days, gets another job (but there is no compo due). We then have to wait weeks and weeks to get someone we want as his replacement with the issue being the level of compo.

Perhaps it is the cost of and lack of return for our most recent managers that irks the businessman that is TS and explains his reluctance to pay what Swindon demand. And why he rubbishes the story released by journos that we have signed Garner because he wants the deal done on his terms and until that happens he doesn't want anyone else announcing it.
Perhaps he does, but it isn't up to him. The media doesn't work for him and doesn't take his instructions. Neither should it.
Really @Airman Brown !  You're right to say the media don't work for TS, but viz a vie, TS has the right to deny a deal has been done, if indeed all the paperwork, comp, etc has not been signed. Works both ways, or are you saying if its published in the press it must be 100% true?
As I said on my one and only previous post on this thread, if, technically, nothing had been signed then the deal is not done!
Bit like when a house is sold....a big SOLD sign goes up...in the small print underneath it nearly always says Subject to contract.
Crawley has the right to publish what he knows, but he may not have known about any sticking points. It simple really!
Again, Cawley's story is accurate. TS then claimed he was "still interviewing".

If people think a compensation negotiation about two second-tier employees is about hundreds of thousands then fair enough, but from their status and my knowledge of TS's other staffing negotiations I'd say it is more likely to be about tens of thousands and that doesn't justify taking two weeks to resolve, still less voiding the whole deal and starting again.
Maybe he was still interviewing / keeping options open whilst the final negotiations continued with Swindon ?

in other words he may have been playing others along until all the i’s were dotted and t’s crossed etc.

Fleetwood sacked their manager May 4th, they have a new manager in place and have already made their first signing.

Sandgaard has said that some new signings will be going out to Spain with the rest of the squad.

And he always tells the truth.

I am sure we said the same thing last summer..... and the summer before that..... its like Groundhog Day. Being urged to stay calm up until 10pm on deadline day. Before we slowly realise we didnt do anything close to enough to compete.
No mate, I won’t be calm if we haven’t made some signings quite soon, let alone near deadline day.
My calm isn’t a permanent state of mind, but I’m nursing raised blood pressure here.
