If Sandgaard had the foresight get him in the fold rather than wasting his spot on acumen on Charlton TV it would likely pay huge dividends.
Has forgotten more about Charlton and football than anyone currently involved in the club has or likely ever will.
Sandgaard has already said we don't need experienced football people involved as running a football club is easy you just need to be smarter than everybody else
Anyway who needs Curbs when you have Martin & the wife.
Did he? I must have missed that.
Who were the experienced football people let go to make way for Martin and Raelynn?
Obviously you did, there was a lot of fans suggesting that we need an experienced CEO & I'm not sure if he was asked by the press though I guess he must of been as he responded in the press with what I said in my post.
Did anybody make way for Martin & the wife ? Do we even know exactly what they do. Why are you suggesting that I even said that we let experienced football people go so that his family could move in ???
I'm still not convinced he's ever actually said we don't need experienced football people involved. The point about appointing a qualified CEO is something I believe he should do, but he's clearly intent on effectively doing the job himself. He did suggest in one interview that he might at some point in the future, but it doesn't look to me as though he wants to relinquish complete control of the day to day decision making involved in running the Club.
As you say with Martin & Raelynn, who really knows exactly what they do? Many on here believe they exert a good deal of influence over what happens at the Club, so if their roles are that important, I was assuming that someone must have been doing whatever they do before they started doing it and wondered if you knew who, hence my question. If no one has been replaced by them, I guess their roles must be newly created.
Raelynn has effectively replaced Wayne Mumford in terms of authority. She is de facto head of all departments at The Valley and calls the shots, according to staff.
As far as Martin is concerned, the long-serving first-team analyst Brett Shaw was removed over the summer and I doubt if there is any serious dispute that he had more expertise than Martin, which probably made him rather inconvenient. However the latter obviously has more influence by virtue of his relationship to Thomas.
A fair draw after both sides nullified one another using different playing styles for most of the game. Yes, we had more possession, but they forced more from Wollacott than we did their keeper.
One year on, chalk and cheese. We are gelling and have a fair few to come back from injury. I am feeling increasingly optimistic that we will be pushing hard for those play offs. We are getting a lot of tougher games out of the way early and picking up a fair few points along the way..

Isn’t it a bit early to be able to say which are the tougher games?
Signing the right striker would take this team up a level or two. Stockley isn’t quick enough and the rest of his game isn’t making up for that weaknesses. A Lyle Taylor type who can hold up the ball, run in behind and drift wide would cause defenders the sort of problems Stockley doesn’t, and that would open up space for other players.
Garner’s said he wants a FB, CB and striker so it’s not as if the club don’t know that. Not long to find out if we give ourselves a chance of solving that problem.
JRS showed again he’s a goalscorer, the way he created space for himself is something you wouldn’t see from our other wide players.
We’ve clearly improved on last season and I’m enjoying the way Garner’s got us playing, but we need those last few signings to be players who really improve the team.
Other negatives were our late subs and another game without being a threat from set pieces.
Now for hopefully a few exciting days on the rumours thread.
Different system and manager, but Lyle Taylor never looked good as a lone striker for us.

Combo of oppo squad quality and depth + league positions, and results thus far act as good an indicator as any, I think. We are doing ok so far with more to come…

Well we haven't played a single team that is currently in the botton half of the division after 6 games so think we've probably had a tougher set of fixtures than the 7 teams above us. The test will be if we can go on a run of wins when we have a few of the "easier" fixtures.
Sandgaard is an egotistical twat. How many other owner would clap their fans at an away ground. And its not like he's just taken over or funded the signing of Ronaldo.
The unusually warm weather didnt help. Players were spent with 10 to go.
Some good all round play but not having a decent finisher meant we didnt win. This season will go down as the "wasted" one. We will end up 8th -10th and rue not signing someone to challenge Stockley as a No 9.
Even though we need a striker we also need a left footed centre half. O'Connell showed how awkward it us trying to play out on the "wrong" foot.
4500 home fans for a team that lost in the play-offs. Dreadful. I think the league could be spiced up a bit if there was a handicap system based on season ticket sales. Sheff Wed would start on 12 points & teams like Wycombe & Accrington on minus 12. We would start on plus 4.
Cant think JRS can be too pleased having to help Clare out 10 yards from his goal. He is such an exciting player it hurts to see him having to battle for the ball at the wrong end of the pitch. By the time he runs 70 yards with it he's knackered. He should have a free pass to stay on the half way line & not have to come into his own half.
I said 8 points from our first 6 so we are 1 point better off......but I'm the pessimistic one around here.
Ps.
Still no Golfie today though. Oh well, one day we will concede on 13 minutes & end up winning. I might even be alive to see it.
You are not the only pesimistic one around here Me too But i would call it common sense realism. And for risk of being called 600 years old and getting the record number of LOLs on one of my posts, i would say 'when you have followed Charlton for as long as i have, you can see how false dawns, and over optimism breeds comlacancy, and gets us no where. The optimist say ,but this team eill get better we are doing better than this time last year, So we might be but results are just very average.even though as they say we have anew manger and we are playing an attacking style of football, Big deal. A hard earned point away they say Sure but the Cambridge manager said that of us last week. Any fool can see that we havnt got enough cover up front, and credit to Garner for saying we need a couple 'in,' before the transfer window closes. But if we dont get some one in next week Selling Washington will be seen as another very poor decision. B T W,The LOL button is the one on the RH, side folks. I CGAF

What?! Our owner is now being criticised for applauding our fans… He might as well give up now if that pisses people off.
You had to be there to see it. It wasn't an owner coming over with the players at the end of the game to applaud the fans, but an owner being "escorted" from the directors box 10 mins before kick off & walking around the pitch to the away end to take in the adulation from the fans in a "look at me I'm the big cheese......and I'm a rock star too". What he got back was a chant of "sign a striker" so if he was looking for his moment in the sun he was very mistaken.
As you were there you have a better reference and qualification than me, who wasn't there to judge TSs applauding the Charlton fans But to say its his ego, is a bit harsh, Brits are scammed big coin to see football in harsh economic times. I would certainly adulate my travelling fans Especially in his position, where, he can be 'out of touch' with the common man.like all the Tories. When did you ever see Duchalet doing anything like this, under his tenure. Sure TS has made a few mistakes He is still learning the ropes, but i genuinely think, his heart is in the right place

A few people have said this, with the unspoken inference that the current bottom half teams will be easier. (You have gone one better and said as much). I think that is a unwise assumption to make. The table is much too fluid at this early stage and I agree with LargeAddick you can't just assume that the next run of fixtures will be any less tough
I don't want to get into the wider argument about Thomas Sandguard's ownership of Charlton, he saved our bacon and I will be forever grateful. But strolling out to milk the applause of the travelling fans at Wycombe today, what a fucking wanker.
Wycombe sure ain't a football town, but as I stood there looking at the rolling Buckinghamshire countryside and the occasional majestic Red Kite gliding past, I had a wry smile as our fans were singing "Wycombe's a shit hole, I want to go home". Almost as funny as when I heard the same thing walking away from Craven Cottage through Bishop's Park with it's million pound mansions and Thames side views.
A good point away I suppose, just can’t help but feel disappointed.
I was frustrated we didn’t make a change sooner but then the subs looked tired and ineffective anyway. I’m excited about Payne and think he’ll be a good player for us but he wasn’t able to make any impact.
I think Clayden has come in and done well but we miss Sess’s composure imo.
With our injuries it’s good we’re in games and picking up points. I feel like if we can get everyone fit and another few bodies through the door we’ll have the tools to have a good go this year. Hopefully we can make that happen.
Seems like we’re not far off and just need the final piece or two of the puzzle.
Nothing worthwhile to add to the views already expressed on the actual game. My general feeling at the moment is - I am enjoying the football, I'm glad we're not shit anymore, but we ain't going up.
Game was pretty much what I expected, tried, successfully to move the ball quickly, Wycombe tried, also successfully to squeeze the pitch, be direct and physical
What I'm impressed with is we 100% have an identity forming, isn't quite there yet but I can see what the manager and players by and large are trying to do and such a footballing philosophy doesn't happen overnight, we will need some luck we have been without for several years regarding injuries to compete but if the players commit to this style of play as the season goes on it will pay off and we must all agree that seeing us break against teams is a joy to watch, a frustrating joy given how shady the final balls and finishing have been
In terms of the players, Inniss is our weak link in possession. He is no ball playing centre half and he costs us possession in areas we don't want to be costed way too often. He did it to Morgan and Dobson yesterday more than a few times. Jayden is not liking this system it didn't work for him and whilst I commend his for his attitude to coming short and involving himself, he is soooo isolated and easy meat for 2 centre halves. The midfielders are going to have to bust guts to get up with and support him and to burn their lungs getting into the box when we are breaking.
I'd have taken a point if offered it before the game and its a good thing I'm bemoaning us not winning as I felt we were good for it, at least as good as Wycombe anyway.
We desperately need 2 players in, mainly a centre forward to compete with and play with stockley, Aneke cant be gambled on let alone relied upon, a centre half as Inniss is bound to get injured for most of the winter soon, hopefully one with a left foot who can pass the ball
I don't think Fraser is pulling his weight in this system. Albie had an off day which I can understand as he had played well so far.
I want to like Payne but his passing is woeful and he gets knocked off the ball an awful lot.
Inniss doesn't suit our playing style and looks like a mistake waiting to happen.
We started very well but when they scored although we immediately equalised, Wycombe pretty much out muscled our midfield until Garner had his half time talk. I'm begining to think we need two forwards, a centre half that's good on the ball and dare I say it..... someone a bit more consistently creative in midfield. Yeah I know we have a lot of midfielders but at the moment I'm not that impressed.

A decent enough result but not the performance I was hoping for.
Started on the front foot yesterday before falling behind and whist we thankfully equalised quickly the ball stayed mainly in our half thereafter in the 1st half. We played lots of pretty sideways football across the back where our opponents are quite happy for us to, but struggled with that out ball into midfield. I noticed similar against Cambridge and for me Morgan and Fraser need to be showing more for the ball. Morgan in particular tends to hide out wide. Ideally JFC would get a go for Morgan but Garner has clearly frozen him out.
Stocks got really beaten up yesterday by 2 proper centre backs and is starved of service from the flanks. I agree with the consensus that the formation doesn't suit him and it would be nice to see him up front with Leaburn. Why it wasn't at least worth a go for the last 5 mins yesterday when Leaburn came on I don't know.
Kirk remains an enigma. Clearly has talent but I don't like his body language. Looks quite disinterested at times, keeps moaning at young Clayden and barely passes the ball to him when Clayden overlaps. Whilst I'm not sure Clayden is the answer at left back he is a willing attacking threat on that left side so it would be good to see Kirk use him more which in turn might see more service for Stocks to feed off.
Clare and Dobbo remain very consistent with the latter my motm by some distance.
In summary having missed Sheffield W and Plymouth I'm yet to see Garner-ball in full effect and I don't see us in the promotion shakeup I'm afraid without more incoming this week...

Thanks for that which makes things clearer, although the internal structure seems to be built on sand as it's constantly shifting.
I won't dwell on this with further questions here though as we're off thread, which is my fault.
We are better than last year - so far - but we won’t challenge for Top 6 without another striker and it could get much worse than that if Stockley gets injured

Sure some are going after Golfie simply because it is Golfie. It was all unnecessary and a bit bizarre. I’ve never seen an opposition owner paraded around the pitch before (and announced over the PA) like a celebrity other than when they’ve just taken over a club. Just completely random and unecessary for a middling L1 match.
Most people cheered him and sung his name (with do do do do Thomas Sandgaard later evolving into Sign a Striker), which supports my theory that the online version of our support differs a fair bit from the real life version.
2022/23 - 8-pts after five games 2021/22 - 6-pts achieved after nine games | 9-pts achieved after eleven games.
So we are better than a team that was in a relegation battle for half the season & that finished 13th.
Whoppee do.....
I'm sorry Golfie... I genuinely dont get your point?
Is it not a good thing that we're doing better than last season.
I think Golfie's point is it isn't a good thing we are likely to be stuck in this league for another season. If we finish 8th or 9th, an improvement but Whoppee do....... Even Curbs who is paid by the club on Charlton TV has explained the issue.

Fortunately we have other fans that can see we're not the same as last season.
On the plus side we look better defensively and the football is more attractive to watch.
Our main problem still appears to be lack of an attacking threat.
