Brownie cannot hide his absolute disdain for this new fangled possession style football. He's now talking about what it takes to win in "the old division three," something it hasn't been called for decades. I'm starting to understand why he doesn't have a job in coaching.
Not true. I call it that. Like Brownie, I can count.

'League One' is just marketing bullshit.

Also, I'm inclined to agree that obsessing with possession is bollocks. Isn't it meant to tire out the opposition? How then, do we still concede more late goals than we score?
One of the guys in the studio dismantled that a bit. '63% possession, but what are you doing with it?'
I am enjoying the football a lot more this season, but the possession statistic is just that- a statistic. There was a point at the end of the first half where we had then trapped in their own box, and that was good possession. Other bits were sterile. Both were valid as we had the ball, but it's the first type that win games.
Having said that, I thought it was a good point. Our passing up top in the second half let us down, but we comfortably matched a team who got to the play off final (and beat us twice)  last season.

Kirk is so lightweight, struggles to beat a man every time. Stockley is woeful in this system.
Who beat their man to put in the cross for our goal?
Did you watch the whole game?
Every time is what you said.

Yes a good number of times he checks back or runs into a dead end, but that's wingers at this level.

I personally think he's fine as an option, would he be starting if CBT wasn't crocked... Not sure.

I agree on the Stockley side of your argument. There's a reason he loved playing with Washington doing all the running.

I thought Golfie's rather controversial plans for a points handicapping system based on season ticket sales was the standout from his post. Well it tickled me anyway, even though I'm not a trout 🎣😎

    2022/23 - 8-pts after five games
2021/22 - 6-pts achieved after nine games | 9-pts achieved after eleven games.
So we are better than a team that was in a  relegation battle for half the season & that finished 13th.

    Whoppee do.....
I'm sorry Golfie... I genuinely dont get your point?

Is it not a good thing that we're doing better than last season.
I think Golfie's point is it isn't a good thing we are likely to be stuck in this league for another season. If we finish 8th or 9th, an improvement but Whoppee do....... Even Curbs who is paid by the club on Charlton TV has explained the issue.
    Thanks for mansplaining that one

I just pity the sad lives a lot of people must lead on here, if they can only ever find the negatives in everything

All my initial post does is highlight the difference between the slow start last season, and where we have made some improvement this season - It didnt even really need a response from anyone, which is why I didnt get Golfie's point in needing to reply.

Is that clear enough for you?

One move I found telling in the first half. Wycombe pressed us and we didn't have an out ball. We carried on playing the passes at the back even though we were digging ourselves in a hole and clearly a hoof out was necessary but instead Innis played a crap pass that was intercepted and could have killed us. Wollacott does get that there is a point when it isn't working and a kick upfield is needed which is a relief. It is key he stays fit and it might be an idea if we varied the tactic a bit. Not drop it but vary it so it isn't so predicatble as opponents will develop plans to capitalise on it and we need another option if it isn't working in a game.

Also, Sheffield Wednesday away and yesterday were warm days. Both opponents looked so much fitter than us in the last 30 minutes. Why is that? Fortunately Wycombe lack a bit of quality but Wednesday beat us because of it. Every loose ball in that 30 minute time period was won by Wycombe yesterday. When we attacked were were slow and even static at times.

Pretty sure Wednesday’s was the quality they brought off the bench. Almost all of their subs could play in the championship. We did not have that.

    My take on this afternoon........

Sandgaard is an egotistical twat. How many other owner would clap their fans at an away ground. And its not like he's just taken over or funded the signing of Ronaldo.

The unusually warm weather didnt help. Players were spent with 10 to go.

Some good all round play but not having a decent finisher meant we didnt win. This season will go down as the "wasted" one. We will end up 8th -10th and rue not signing someone to challenge Stockley as a No 9.

Even though we need a striker we also need a left footed centre half. O'Connell showed how awkward it us trying to play out on the "wrong" foot.

4500 home fans for a team that lost in the play-offs. Dreadful. I think the league could be spiced up a bit if there was a handicap system based on season ticket sales. Sheff Wed would start on 12 points & teams like Wycombe & Accrington on minus 12. We would start on plus 4.

Cant think JRS can be too pleased having to help Clare out 10 yards from his goal. He is such an exciting player it hurts to see him having to battle for the ball at the wrong end of the pitch. By the time he runs 70 yards with it he's knackered. He should have a free pass to stay on the half way line & not have to come into his own half.

I said 8 points from our first 6 so we are 1 point better off......but I'm the pessimistic one around here.

    Ps.

Still no Golfie today though. Oh well, one day we will concede on 13 minutes & end up winning. I might even be alive to see it.
Not sure i get your point here, how exactly does that make him a twat?

Did he do something else that you haven't mentioned or did he literally just clap the fans?
He wore a bright white jacket that was 5 sizes too big :-)

…but I’ll happily let that go when he backs Garner and signs the player ‘he has been working on all summer’ on Thurs.

True but there was a noticeable drop in our energy levels in that game. Granted it was a very hot day but ours fell off a cliff. A bit like yesterday. We still competed when the ball was there but our running into space and to get the ball was non existent. It was pretty obvious for all to see. If not try to watch that last 30 minutes back.

44 seconds - the shove on Morgan feet away from the ref, totally ignored. Summed the referee up. I'd like to see the clatter on Clare in the first half again.

Great to be in a great away crowd of fellow Addicks again, shame about the match. I spent the last ten minutes trying to get a good photo of the Red Kites.

The ref for Cambridge was the same. Let some blatant fouls go. I blame this new edict that League One refs are not good enough to judge properly. They should get a pass and just be told to blow when you see a foul.

    I am conflicted.
The reason we didn’t lose was because we won the toss and chose the wrong way for Wycombe. That is the right thing to do away from home, however yesterday was sunny, and in choosing ends Stockley created difficulties for us in the second half with the sun in our eyes.
Roll on winning the toss away from home on gloomy days.

Reminds me of my days as a manager when we kicked off at 10 am quite often. The sun was low in the sky at the start of the game and on a sunny day the toss was great to win so you could get in lots of high balls for the keeper and defenders to deal with which is hard when you can't see the ball. I was rubbing my hands together when I saw a keeper didn't have a cap.

i think refs have stopped giving fouls most of the time when players get a slight touch when shielding the ball and go down like a sack of spuds - and rightly so - morgan lost the ball several times in that spell and allowed wycombe to get on top of us - stockley then becomes completely redundant when we are penned in as offers nothing on the break

    But they are fouls.

no, its a contact game and most of the time they're given for virtually nothing and refs have been falling for it for years now

It is called buying a foul but it is still a foul. You have to be fouled for it to work.

The referee was not biased yesterday, but he was what I call a homer.
I actually thought the fouling he allowed, or missed, made him a liability for player safety.

nope - its become the norm that they are given and this season has seen a move away from that and rightly so because it has become a joke how easily they have been 'bought'

Tough tough game, I’d quiet happily never play Wycombe again. Good to see us pushing to win though and not sit back like we would have in previous years.

6 games in and we are the only team to have not played anyone lower than 12th, and we’ve got another tough away game against Bolton next week.

Defo need a couple more signings, and our injuries back, but how you can’t feel slightly positive about our start so far I don’t know.
And what odds would you give that when we play those teams who are currently 13th to 24th, they'll then be top half?  Could we go the whole season playing no one in the bottom half?

What does that have to do with yesterday’s game at Wycombe? He’s gone

What?! Our owner is now being criticised for applauding our fans… He might as well give up now if that pisses people off.
You had to be there to see it. It wasn't an owner coming over with the players at the end of the game to applaud the fans, but an owner being "escorted" from the directors box 10 mins before kick off & walking around the pitch to the away end to take in the adulation from the fans in a "look at me I'm the big cheese......and I'm a rock star too".  What he got back was a chant of "sign a striker" so if he was looking for his moment in the sun he was very mistaken.

Sure some are going after Golfie simply because it is Golfie. It was all unnecessary and a bit bizarre. I’ve never seen an opposition owner paraded around the pitch before (and announced over the PA) like a celebrity other than when they’ve just taken over a club. Just completely random and unecessary for a middling L1 match.

Most people cheered him and sung his name (with do do do do Thomas Sandgaard later evolving into Sign a Striker), which supports my theory that the online version of our support differs a fair bit from the real life version.
According to Louis Mendez he (TS) was walking around the pitch with the Wycombe owner, don't know why but BOTH owners were out there, not just TS.

Shockingly the teams you would expect to be in and around the top 10, are in and around the top 10, and the teams at the bottom are at the bottom.

Theres a couple of outliers in Oxford, MK Dons and Exeter but are you telling me any of the teams from 18 and down are going to make it into the top 12?
