Farcical finish, VAR proving how fucking useless it is and how weak the refs are, joke.

Anyway great performance but still concerned about defence.
VAR isn't useless the moron operating was.
Why do people persist in saying this type of thing?

You do know what "VAR" stands for don't you?
    Who watches the video?
The "Video" part of it is bang on. Can't fault it. The ability to play back recordings from various camera angles is magnificent. Well played everyone.

It's the "A" and the "R" parts that are just plain shite!
The penalty was given by the on pitch ref after the VAR told him to watch it.  The question is why didn't they tell him to watch the Maguire one.

No on pitch ref would ever have given that pen because there is no way they could have seen it.
  • That'll do nicely. Well played England.
  • to get any sort of atmosphere out there you need a team with good support progressing.

Iran, morocco, Qatar or Saudi - but they wont.

watching that match it was so flat even England fans couldn't be heard.
  • Why has Shearer got such a big writing pad?

  • Grealish keeps his promise to 11-year-old Finlay, a young Man City fan with cerebral palsy.

Was just about to post similar with a warning that watching the video may cause you to get something in your eye.

    0 goals
    4 shots
    0 shots on target
    78% possession
    810 total passes
    6 dangerous attacks

    #garnerball
I've made a couple of changes to the above to reflect the stats if it was truly #garnerball
That'd be if it were #martinsplayers

Great result and performance. Ref should be sent home.
  • Think Saka has quieted any calls for Foden instead of him the next game.

Imagine they'll rotate but would rather Sterling and Foden rotated instead.

We do well this tournament if Kane, Bellingham and Rice stay injury or suspension free.

Iran looked proper poor though, were a slightly better Qatar.
  • What a pleasure to watch a performance like that after the shit we've been served up by Charlton this season. We have such an exciting frontline and genuine depth on the bench. Trying not to get too excited as it's early doors, and our weakest group opponent, but that was great.

To be fair they werent wrong... One of the reasons its coming home, is because the Iranian Goalkeeper is utter shite along with his Defence.

That seems a little unfair, I didn't think any of the goals their keeper could've done much better with, unless the first keeper was supposed to pull off half a dozen worldie saves? I didn't know their first keeper, is he that much better?
Maybe I am being a little unfair... I think it was his seventh game for Iran, whilst the concussed Goalkeeper has played 54-games, and has a decent throw which could have threatened us on the counter a few times.

Just thought there were a few occasions where we scored pretty easy goals, without him really trying to make a save

I know where you are coming from FA and kind of agree. I got a few pelters in the match thread for saying Iran looked poor thus making us look good and I stand by it.

It reminded me of the Euro Qualifying games when the opposition sound and look more suited to winning the Eurovision song contest than a football match.

That said we can only play what is in front of us, so we move on following a resounding win however I take very little from today's result, much tougher tests are round the corner.

The thing is, Iran are ranked 20th in the world. They conceded just 4 goals in their entire World Cup qualifying campaign. Simply put, they aren't mugs and they have a very good coach to guide them.

Yes losing their keeper effected them, but the simple fact is that England were far too good for them. I've rarely seen us move the ball so well in a match of this type. Usually if the opposition sit back then we pass sideways at a pedestrian pace for 90 minutes and hope to nick a goal at some stage. There were large swathes of this match where we looked like scoring every attack.

The goals were disappointing, the first due to complacency after going 4 up and the second a farce. But every team who watches that, even if they think they may be able to get at our defence, will be terrified of our attacking options.

Eight goals in total, the four goals mentioned came in the Third stage of AFC Qualifying, although Iran only had to trouble themselves with:

Second Round: Iraq | Bahrain | Cambodia | Hong Kong
Third Round: South Korea | UAE | Iraq | Syria | Lebanon
  • If Iran are the 20th best footballing side on the planet, then I'm a monkey's uncle.

But, I am quietly excited by our attacking options in the starting 11 and from the bench.

Bellingham gives us something a bit different as well. Hopefully his goal will fill him with even more confidence.

Before today these were Iran's last 4 games.

You would probably expect them to come 2nd or 3rd in most groups at this world cup?

They aren't "making up the numbers".
