    Oh dear.
  • Grim, grim, grim.
  • So far Middx as bad at batting as we are at bowling
  • Middlesex's "better" starts this season:

    20-5 & 41-4 v Essex
    11-4 & 44-3 v Northants
    48-4 v Kent
    51-4 & 31-3 v Hants
    59-5 & 55-5 v Essex
    19-5 v Lancs
    And now 100-8 v Warwickshire

Without gaining too many bonus points.

    121 all out
  • Denly still going on a rapid 64 not out!
  • The soon to be retired Tim Murtagh has taken a wicket with his second ball for Middlesex

  • What's worse than going in with just four frontline bowlers? One getting injured! Hogan has limped off in the middle of an over. You couldn't write it.
  • Jaydn Denly out for an excellent 74 off 77 in England U19s run chase against Australia
  • The best news of the day. They are off for rain. Might be back on today but, by all accounts, tomorrow is looking particularly bad weather wise.
  • Green top you say? Somerset made it look like a road with our bowling.
  • Bad news - covers off again
  • warks are 15-2

what is the bowling point bonus structure again ?

One point for 3 to 5 wickets, a second for 6 to 8 wickets and a third and final one for 9 to 10 wickets

  • Playing again and looking just as lacking in threat

    171-1 off 43

    Lammomby 94* (131)
    Goldsworthy 50* (85)

  • Warks 25-3 Tim Murtugh with all 3. Taking wickets has never been their problem.

I complained about this last week, as you have to be terrible to NOT pick up 10 wickets in 110 overs, whereas getting batting points is much more of a challenge, with teams losing wickets chasing the final points.

Looks like Kent are terrible in their match.

That might be an issue after this season. 954 First Class wickets and counting for Murtagh with current figures of 6-3-8-3
  • DBD gets Lammonnby caught behind for 109 (151)

    205-2 off 51.1
  • Warwickshire 44-4
  • Off for bad light

    214-2
  • Sadly, Kent are not good enough and deserve Div2. Billings should go, Leaning is not a decent captain and despite it looking like a green seaming wicket, leaving out Chahal is stupid. Class bowlers often find a way whatever the conditions of the wicket.
This game is likely already beyond us and all we can do is hope next week is different and Middlesex are even more crap than we are.

If clear out and start again next season

Trouble is that it is difficult to clear out when players are contracted for another couple of years. The Club doesn't have the money, I suspect, to pay them off and then sign other players so it will only happen in the case of some of them if they are willing to tear up their own contracts. And that is unlikely.
  • From Kent's twitter "On an extremely green surface; Arafat, Evison, Hogan & Singh head a bowling attack complimented by the returning Marcus O'Riordan & Joe Denly".

Now this might be ambiguous in the sense that O'Riordan and Denly are returning but the inference is that they are adding to the bowling attack. O'Riordan hasn't bowled for club or county since early July so is he fit again to do so? In which case, perhaps that is why he has been preferred to Chahal and Nijjar given the fear of going in with four number 11s once again (last four wickets fell for four runs in the last game)? Certainly not saying that it is the right move because I would have Chahal in the team whatever the surface but it might be their rational for team selection.

  • I too would have Chahal in the team, regardless of the surface. He is a match winner. Although I appreciate we need to put out the eleven we believe will most likely best perform in the conditions, it must also be a costly decision not to play him. I doubt we got him cheap…
