Great effort but frustrating we can't try that hard most Saturdays - we have it in us! Not to captain HMS PTL but enough to have some fun days and nights out. This is our first cup quarter final since Middlesbrough 15 odd years ago, I think..?

Amazing support and chuffed for all there tonight. At least Dean Holden has something to work with as there was definitely a good fighting spirit about the boys. I actually felt happy for the first time in a while watching us play as must have everybody but its got to be a steeping stone for next weeks games.

Didn’t watch it but well done to those fans at the Valley and the team.

Now fight for that shirt every week
BigDiddy, you are one of the most passionate on here, take that passion down to the Valley, it needs you.

Oh, and Thomas wasn't there to enjoy it... probably our best result since he took over the club... ha ha ha

Not the result I expected. By halftime I thought we had played well, stuck to the defensive shape and worked hard. Any result was then a bonus. Seemed Brighton ran out of ideas, and we rode our luck. Hardly had a look at goal in 2nd half, but showed real character to win the penalties.

Special mention for Ness, Dobson, Chin and Maynard-Brewer. Great penalty by Lavelle  even when their keeper was fucking about.
  • A very odd season. Terrible in the league, especially against poor teams, but in the last 8 of the EFL cup, winning 2 consecutive penalty shootouts!

Totally unbelievable.  Is that our biggest upset win since the 1920s?

Aneke Never warmed up properly at half time!!!

I know. I was watching & saw he hardly did anything.

I did my traditional "avoid the match thread if I can't legally stream it" thing, so only found out the score when my Dad phoned me up at 10 o'clock. He's a wind-up merchant, so had to get Mum to verify that we'd actually won on penalties, and couldn't believe it when I actually saw how many of them hit the woodwork (are we sure we weren't using non-regulation goals?). I think all of our fans who've trekked to games where we've crumbled under pressure earned that one tonight, and hopefully the players will take some confidence from it going forward.
For those who didn't access a dodgy stream, highlights are on ITV4 at 11pm.
highlights are on at 10.30pm tonight ITV4

Don’t let a great evening deflect from the fact that we are properly in the shit though. Enjoy it for what it is.

Even during the most turgid season, a few specks of magic can still be found, can’t wait for the draw!

If there'd been extra time instead of going straight to penalties I think the outcome would have been different.

We (Championship) won at Coventry (Premier League) in the 99-00 FA Cup

We were 2-0 down as well

Poor season in the league for sure but, despite that, we are in the last 8 of the football league cup for only the second time in our history!

    Well done lads!!

    100%. Reckon Brighton would've found a goal if they'd had another 5, 10, 15 minutes.

But them's the rules. The players gave 120 minutes of effort condensed into 90, knowing that they didn't have to worry about extra time being possible.

Thought Ness was outstanding against top quality opposition. Bright future for him!
Very easy to forget about him... I know I'd forgotten he was playing - Him and Mitchell have done a great job when playing in the First Team this season, ironically when they've had one of Inniss or Lavelle alongside them
  • I didn’t listen.
After the last week I just didn’t have the energy.
I’m delighted for all those who went, all those who watched & especially for Andy & Jason.
    COYR! ♥️

I was screaming at the screen telling him to just put his foot through it and I'm so glad he did.

    Harry Maguire-esque.

I know I was there

We were top of the championship, they were only really a handful of places above us.

We are nearly 70 places behind Brighton.

That's what we need to do with away performances until we get out of this mess.......Dobbo brilliant, Innis and Sessingnon were great as well.....also a shout out to Chin who was outstanding and I have been one of his critics not that I think he isn't good enough but he's been thrown in the deep end, AMB had a great game

Can anyone who has been calling Anthony Hayes clueless apologise please. Since that abomination of the FA cup we were superb in the first half of Rovers and undone by two pieces of savage individual ineptitude and then he’s just gone and pulled this out the bag. Well played.

Yes really pleased for him. Stepped up when the club needed him, and the players have responded. I think the tactics were an essential part of this evening, considering the difference in talent. The compact shape off the ball, and the hard work showed. Even RS was back tracking regularly to help Chin out.
