Very sad news. Millwall posted this which was before their last game of the season. Apparently he’d never done it before and got an amazing reception as you'll see. Very rare for a club owner to be that popular.
A measure of the man is that not a single Millwall fan has a bad word to say about him. Widely popular opinion is that he's the best chairman they ever had, and some are even saying they should name a stand after him.
Just catching up with this sad news. It's all been said already but what a fabulous job he did at Millwall and he seems to have done it whilst still being held in high regard as a person.
RIP. I think despite the rivalry, many Charlton fans acknowledged how good it would be to have an owner like him which speaks volumes about the respect which rivals had for him.
As a club and fanbase we are devastated this morning. Genuinely feels like we’ve lost a family member.
He wasn’t just the chairman, owner and guardian of our club. He was a thoroughly decent, honest, generous, warm and caring gentleman. One of life’s good guys. A man of integrity, passionately loyal, and always humble.
Whenever he was over for a game, he would take time beforehand to have a walk around the ground and meet fans, shaking hands, stopping for photos. And he would always end each interaction by thanking the fan for their support. Well we thank you John. A truly great man.

RIP
Still trying to process it if I'm honest. One of a kind and as has been said on here, would have been a welcome chairman at pretty much any club.
Giant of a man. Kind, caring, generous and just a thoroughly nice bloke.
Greatest chairman in our history and a huge void to fill. Feels like a member of the family has passed.
RIP Mr Chairman. Thank you for your love, stewardship and unwavering support 💔
