What an amazing game that was, not just from the perspective of the comeback but the number of injuries and the ridiculously self-inflicted sending off of Gordon.
Howe must wonder what he's done to deserve the players he's had missing this season. He lost another four during the current game against West Ham meaning that he has a whole team currently out:
Pope Trippier Botman Lascelles Krafth Livramento Miley Tonali Joelinton Almiron Wilson
Gordon will have a one match ban now and Schar had to carry on with a knock because all their subs had been used so they might be missing as many as 13 or 14 come their match on Tuesday against Everton.
The two players who did make all the difference to Newcastle were Gordon who ran and ran (despite his stupidity in getting himself sent off) and Barnes who came on as a game changing sub and who has, himself, just been out for a month. Anyone who thinks that Howe doesn't get his players to run through brick walls for him needs to look at the effort put in by his players.
What planet is football currently on where that is a penalty??
Joke decision
Not sure I necessarily agree with the decision, but I’ve seen much worse penalty decisions than that. There’s no doubt Phillips kicked Gordon’s ankle after all.
If anything it was obstruction by Gordon. You can’t just plant yourself between the player striking the ball and the ball when you have got your back to that ball. He literally just prevents him from kicking the ball
Amazing game, gutted for West Ham as I always look for their result after us but oh boy watching them is so like Charlton, the minute Antonio went off I had a feeling they'd throw it away. I think Moyes will be gone end of season even if they win that Europa cup.

Obstruction? Come off it. Gordon tried to get the ball and missed. Phillips tried to get the ball and kicked Gordon on the ankle. Both players were trying to get the ball. Like I say, I’m not overly convinced it was a pen because Gordon didn’t have control of the ball and both players tried and failed to get the ball. But Phillips did kick Gordon, so you can see why it was given.
Phillips is having such a nightmare at West Ham, definitely seems to have played his way out of contention for the Euros.
Nowhere near as good as everyone makes him out to be
Football is still a team game and Phillips and Rice had a good partnership. Lovely contract at Man city but Phillips has lost his edge and too many midfielders in front of him now and by not playing enough he is now just an ex International.
I'm not quite sure what type of player Pep wanted too turn Phillips into ?

Well he was very good at Leeds and also for England at the Euro's but his lack of football at City has clearly caused a massive downturn in his form.
I don't think he's a bad player though and if he gets a permanent move in the summer then i think with regular football he will show that. Maybe a move back to Leeds if they're promoted would be good for him.
You know how when Charlton play the ball around at the back and we all get annoyed and say things like “Stop fucking about at the back, you’re not Man City”? Well, Man City are playing it around at the back like Charlton today.

Their fans are very likely yelling “Stop fucking about at the back, you’re not Charlton Athletic”.
Fair play to Anthony Taylor allowing 60 mins play without a yellow card, think a lot of refs would have cracked by now.
I often think refs should get the cards out a bit quicker, but on this occasion I think you’re right. There haven’t been any nasty or cynical challenges. I think sometimes fans assume there should be a yellow after a certain number of fouls regardless of how bad those fouls are.

If Isak and Longstaff didn't miss kicks in front of goal they would have 6 now.
Gordon is a skilled footballer but must've shit for brains Or darts night down his local on Tuesday 🤔

Who cares anyway? It’s just West Ham. 😉

Great clearance from Doughty
