Karoy Anderson

  • For those who watched him in the academy I would be interested to hear whether his distribution looked better there or if he has always been mainly about energy and press.
Very much a creative, goal scoring attacking midfielder.

Certainly the energy and running were there but that wasn't what made him stand out, to me at least.

Just shows how much of a step up the first team is in physicality and intensity - I can see why Anderson would have looked good on the ball and scored goals for the academy, but it’s another thing entirely doing it for the first team. If we had to guess which midfielder is likely to score the most this season I would imagine many would say Berry over Anderson.
  • not the most skilled, however he's a proper 100%er and harasses opposition midfielders more than any other Addick player .. worth his place i m o

Either him or Coventry have to step up and start making more contributions to the attacking element of this side.

As timid a midfield pairing as I think I've ever seen down there

Or do they need an attacking midfielder or two alongside them?
  • Him going off at half time made a big difference to the balance of play in the midfield of the pitch. Dobson, Rathbone and Cannon had so much more time on the ball than they had had in the first half.
More down to the formation at the start of the second half

Said exactly the same. Gaping holes in midfield in second half without Karoy.

Not a big fan of Anderson but thought he done well in the first half. Unless he was injured another strange decision by a strange manager taking him off.
  • Thought he was having one of his better games first half.  Weird decision to sub him. Docherty was anonymous and I am just not a Coventry fan, far too negative a player.
  • It’s a strange one as I don’t rate him, but he would one of the first names of my team sheet every week. I think defensively he’s very good, but his passing is very poor. His energy level in midfield are enough to be a starter each week.

Coventry could perhaps turn on the ball and see if there's a forward pass/switch on from time to time, instead of immediately going back to the keeper or short and sideways.

And Karoy lost the ball constantly.

Yet I still noticed both more than Docherty, who seems to follow the game around rather than affect it.

The search for a decent midfield continues.
Haven't others suggested that this could be a role for Zach Mitchell, who I believe has played in  midfield  when he was a bit younger ?

It's time the only untried squad player was given the opportunity to show what qualities he has and what he can add to this team. And he has a mature head on his shoulders ....

Sadly, I fear he'll play on Tuesday evening v Chelsea U21s and then not until the next match in that competition.

It's clear changes are badly needed if we are to stay even in the top half of theis league and there's one staring NJ in the face.
  • Not consistent enough from one nlmatch to next. It was justified subing  him at half time.

Agree he deserved a chance but not in place of Anderson as he’s not an attacking player at all. Mitchell deserves a shot in defence instead of Gillesphey

Since when has energy levels been enough to get you in the team? I’m sure there’s plenty of fit Sunday morning footballers who have great energy levels but I wouldn’t put them in the Charlton team.
  • Can win the ball and takes up good positions but his distribution is dreadful. If he and the coaches can sort that significant weakness out he will fly but I do see why Jones persists with him.

But none of those Sunday league footballers are registered to play for Charlton, so they can’t be selected until the January transfer window.

Out of the current midfield option he’s the only who at least stretches the opposition defensively when we counter attack. I don’t think I have seen any of the other midfielders get beyond the strikers at any point this season.
  • Karoy looks a bit of a headless chicken at times. Great, that he has those energy levels, but that alone isn't enough, especially if once you've got the ball you make poor decisions with it and give possession away as he often does.

If you're getting pulled at half time (and that's not the first time for him), especially when we are drawing and it's ahead of a shirker like Docherty, then I'm sorry to say, Karoy is probably not quite what we need right now to get us up the table.

I do hope he comes good though, it's perhaps just a bit too early here and now to be starting so regularly.

Well they could, providing they werent registered with a League club, beyond the closure of the last window ;)

I spoke to Zach at the PotY dinner a couple of seasons ago. I asked him if he sees his future as a holding midfielder or a CB. His exact words in reply: "definitely centre back"

Don't shoe horn a very talented youngster into a team in a position he's not comfortable. It's a good way to ruin him, or make him unhappy.

    His time will come.
  • Karoy has been played an awful lot in the last five weeks or so, including travelling and playing for Jamaica.
I think he needs to recover his body a bit, and regain a kind of equilibrium.
It would be surreal if quite soon we had a starting eleven including Maynard Brewer, Zach Mitchell, Karoy Anderson, Nathan Asimwe, Tyreece Campbell and Miles Leaburn.

I often daydream of having a sort of Athletic Bilbao style system where you have to have come through our academy to play for us, couldn’t be much worse than the team we have of non-academy grads today!
  • He is a good athlete and good at winning the ball back, but he's so lacking in footballing ability he tends to hinder us more than he helps, particularly in attack. One thing he could really benefit from is bulking up more, as he gets muscled off the ball so easily.
