Things are clearly not going to plan but clear heads are needed. Today it felt we started two many youngsters against a savvy opponent. There are questions around this, like why is Hector not starting, are we asking too much of them with our formation, why did we let Claire go without proper RB cover? I still don’t think we are a million miles away and with Camara, Fraser and Leaburn we might be at the other end of the table.
I have a lot of faith in the ability of Asiimwe, Anderson, Kanu, Elewere and Ness but it is too many youngsters as I have said. We need to get back to basics and a lot of these talented players need to be brought on from the bench. I think Holden needs to write down his stalwarts and by that I mean those with the right mixture of experience and ability. I am not too worried about the keeping position, so I think we need to go with a 4-3-3 and fit Hector, Jones, Dobbo, CBT and May in that and then work around it. Asiimwe is going to be a star IMO but he has had a hand in three goals conceded in two games and we can’t afford that so we need a more solid RB.
I know McGrandles is probably off, but he should be playing now instead of Anderson who again I think will be a star but he needs to be coming on off the bench. And Terry Taylor ought to have been in the midfield today. It isn’t our best midfield but that is injured. CBT is a winger rather than a wing back. He is also one of our most dangerous outlets but Oxford doubled up on him and whilst he had his moments again there was no real threat from the other side. If we are playing 4-3-3, he needs to be one of that front 3.
Just some thoughts, Holden needs to have a rethink and Fleetwood becomes a very important game. I think Holden went into this season with an aim to blow opponents away but we have had injuries and don’t convert enough of our chances to be too open. Maybe that will come into play later in the season, but there needs to be a change now. I won’t be calling for heads to roll as this can still be turned round. I think we need to see a RB, lose a couple of midfielders and bring another in and a striker, and these three players need to be good ones, not squad fillers. That will certainly help.

Could we get a bingo card for this period of trepidation?
“Bring Curbs back”
”Powell is available”
”I said Holden wasn’t the right man all along”
”What’s Bowyer up to?”
So boring7 -

Well said bruv,I just can’t believe some of comments being said calling for holdens head after 5 games and 41 games to go and plenty of points to play for. Yes it’s a terrible start but give the bloke a chance.he plays hector thomas jones at the back and he gets slaughtered,so he picks ness elerewe and asilmwe and gets comments like their not good enough, their to young etc etc.so I say come fella’s these are the times to get behind the team not slaughter them. When holdens got a fully fit squad you’ll see the team rapidly climb the
table im sure of that.4 -
“We started the game excellently. We had the best chance of the game through Alfie May when the ball landed to him on the penalty spot and he couldn’t execute.’
Hmmm not sure it’s wise to scapegoat one of the best strikers in the division for failings, one who we keep pumping long balls up to.18 -

I still back Holden but I think he is still looking for his best team. With no injuries I'm sure he would know it but he is having to make compromises and that is creating gaps. He needs a couple of players in at least as well.3

For what it's worth, I like Holden and attacking football seems okay but we need another body to help with the goals.
It's the defence. I'm not sure but why we just leak goals, there must be some specific defence coaching we can employ. Saying that Holden was a defender.
Need a strikers and a leader to come into the defence.0 -

But that surely is part of the problem, for which HE is responsible. You can't build defensive solidity if you keep changing the players and system between and indeed during games.

He will probably get the sack, but the underlying problems will remain IMO
1st stages of methvens cost cutting I suppose, promote the youth team into the starting 11 & while we're at it promote the coaches as well thereby avoiding paying out on grizzled experienced guys who know what they're doing at this level.5 -

Crack a beer open lads and lasses….we’ll always be here for Charlton unlike many of the current players and owners…..one day we’ll have a club to be proud of10

Normally this kind of start to the season would produce semi-splenetic rage. But these days it's almost expected. Another fifth straight defeat and all I could manage was a shrug and a muttered "here we go again".13

I had a nice day - watched my mate’s son open for his cricket team, carried his bat, scored 63, they won, only need 9 points now to be champs of their division - had a few beers watching - very enjoyable - only looked at the Charlton score post 2nd half starting
I think that is very telling ……
I had so much positivity before the season started - but already I would rather watch club cricket than this shower of shite
Was it ever thus being a Charlton Athletic fan …………..3 - Sponsored links:

Charlie has just rang around "the investors". Three put the phone down, five went to answerphone and more worryingly, 246 said "Charlton who?"10

What is it with this get rid of Holden stuff, we are 5 games in, but the performances against Bristol Rovers and Port Vale, deserved a couple of wins, had we got what we deserved in those two we would be top 10, when we get Fraser, Camara, Leaburn back + hopefully some additions in before Friday then fortunes will turn, should it still prove not, then I will join in with the time to go bit...
This is more about lack of investment than the manager...7 -

'best side we've played this season' according to an Oxford mate
That's all I have to offer as I made the late, wise decision at 1.00 to get in the car and drive away from Oxford instead of towards it3 -
Biggest question is, how on earth are we not in a relegation spot……yet!0

I've had a bit of time to reflect and cannot get away from our fragile state as a football club.
I remember Garner mentioning it after a rare win and it has stuck with me ever since..
Yes we can bring in better players or a new manager but something about the fabric of this club in its current state is really troubling me.
As for the game, too many youngsters being asked to step up in this situation is bordering on criminal if you ask me. There is talent there but it is by no means ready for this task. There's a way of doing things and this ownership and management group clearly have no regard for it.
Add that to the experienced hands gravitational pull towards sloppiness and you've got yourself the clusterf**k we see before us. It's all simple stuff.
There's such an irony seeing Curbs straight after another one of these horror shows.
He would never have stood for it!9
