Is McGrandles, a centre mid who HAS played over 100 games and was loved at Lincoln and last season at Cambridge, really a worse option than the clearly knackered and now out of depth Anderson?
Yes, McAmbles is dogshit.
I hate comments like this. Aside from the fact they're just pointlessly nasty, McGrandles has managed to be very good for Lincoln and Cambridge at this level. He's barely played for us, but why is he so much worse? Is it that he's just 'dogshit' or could it be that we manage to repeatedly take players and make them worse? How do we constantly manage to pick up players who should be decent enough and turn them into shells of themselves? That's what we need to figure out because I reckon we're not a million miles away from making Jones, Camara and May look a hell of a lot worse in reality than they did on paper and, more importantly, than they would for someone else
Did you watch the under 21s in midweek? I did and he was probably the worst midfielder on the pitch. I don't care how he's become so shit, but the reality is he isn't the answer, not by a long shot
It's funny how every player that hasn't featured for a couple of games is suddenly the answer and there's calls for them to play. The reality is they aren't playing because 9 times out of 10 they're even worse than the dross already on the pitch
We don't have two wingbacks We don't have three comfortable centre halves We don't have two central strikers FFS PLAY 4-3-3 I don't care if you prefer 3-5-2 Dean Our squad doesn't

I thought it was rumoured (Peter ORourke?) that he’s attracting interest from elsewhere and likely to be on his bike 🤔.

One thing about Albie Morgan is he could deliver a ball, we’re noticeably useless at corners & crossing the ball in the box this season.
We got rid of our best set piece players in Forster Caskey and Morgan and haven't replaced them with anyone who can do that job . Typical Charlton.
Our set prices have been so bad for so long, people remember these two as being good. They weren't. They were just very slightly not as bad as all the other crap we've had.
This has been a balls up since the end of last season, you are supposed to replace out going players with better ones.We have let Clare and Egbo go,what have we brought in.Are the incoming midfielders any better than Morgan.Who has replaced the aerial presence of Innis(Yes I know he had his moments),we are no threat in either box, since he went.I dont understand why Mcgrandles has not had more of a chance to show what he can do.Great to see our kids play, but not make up half the team, they will get despondent,as they get bullied and out muscled by experienced league 1 players, with no one on their side capable of dishing it out.
We again chose to expose ourselves by over-committing, I couldn't work out what our system was or what the intention was playing 3 centre halves but still finding ourselves outnumbered in midfield which is criminal. I have a feeling Holden is asking this silly game managers play when they feel they haven't been backed in a transfer window and he hasn't.
In this division you are in or out. You either invest and back a manager or you work with what you have, think Cambridge, Accrington, Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham and clubs of that ilk and size.
Playing at a ground like the Valley and having the history we have we have to sign a particular type of character, someone who can handle playing at a ground like that, being a scalp to everyone in the league each week and to have a self-managed level of performance you are capable of each week. Ensuring you do all the basics 99% of the time but are also not going to be phased playing somewhere every other week where you can not only hear the jibes from the crowd you can probably smell the breath of who said it too. We do not have more than 3 of those players.
Holden has a real colossal problem with this lot, if he cannot get people who are paid to defend in football games, to defend as a unit. We are screwed.
I said a couple of days ago that with a whole week to work with the players, there would be NO excuse for not having them better organised today, with players and a shape to make us more solid at the back.
And Dean and his coaches failed. As Brownie said at HT, if you have all week to work on something, and have to junk it after 40 minutes, that's very disappointing, and indeed worrying.
When managers seem to lose the plot with their team selections and tactics, and the fans are baffled BEFORE the game, it's usually the beginning of the end.

You've missed the point though. He wasn't bad for Lincoln when he was a big part of them finishing 5th in L1 and making it to the play-off final, and he wasn't bad for Cambridge when he helped turn their midfield around and save themselves from relegation. So why is he here looking bad for our u21s? You should care about why and how because that's the real core issue our football club has. We kill players. Kirk, Lavelle, McGrandles, DJ, Gunter, Watson, Smyth, Schwarz, Stockley, Aneke, Gilbey, Payne, Penney, Levitt, Matt Smith 2, MacGillivray, Lee, Leko, I don't think a single one of them hasn't left our club as an absolute shadow of the player they were before they joined. Some of them were on the up, some of them looked like they had potential and could grow, but every single one of them left Charlton a worse player, and in a fair few cases physically crippled along the way. Sure, maybe some were past it and we didn't realise and you can't get every signing right, but the sheer weight of numbers of players we pick up who only get worse as the weeks go by? We've signed teams' POTYs, players who led the league for chance creation, had been playing a league up or at the very least had been performing well at a L1 level and we torpedo their careers. Some recover and climb back up, but do we think that we just exclusively sign players who are masters of disguise, sometimes playing well for their team for years at a time who then drop the act the second we sign them or is it more likely that there's something seriously, terminally wrong with our coaching and development of footballers? So many players have come to Charlton and seen their careers grind to a halt within 5 games of representing the club and that's the core issue that we need to resolve or this is going to happen forever. Someone associated with the club needs to care how.
All that waving our arms in the air after Orient. We're just a poor side, we were poor last season and needed a complete clear out but we're still stuck with most of them
Joint worst start since 1990, equal with Iain Dowie in 2006. Long way back for Holden from there, injuries and squad challenges notwithstanding.
Lets be honest, not just worst start since 1990, not only in the lowest tier we have played in - Methven and co, SMT , they are no better than scavengers as Sunderland fans know. Remember , we do not own our ground like we didn't between 1984-1990 but are financially worse off, even then we owned a training ground whereas now RD does. CAST should hold their head in shame as we should have been putting a fans buyout in place before this shower arrived. They need to step aside and let a supporters group of commercially minded fans to be te focus of fans support. We have had 15 years of this and the saviours can only come from within - look at AFC Bournemouth, Bury, Portsmouth etc... the sooner the club resets itself real optimism will return. Rick, you were involved in the back to the Valley- can you offer any leadership?

Slight foot injury they said last week. Is he now going to be out until Christmas?
They need to be rested and re-introduced one at a time into a balanced, competent side, this isn't rocket science though.
We don't have three comfortable centre halves

FFS PLAY 4-3-3
I don't care if you prefer 3-5-2 Dean
Our squad doesn't
It GENUINELY isn't rocket science
Certainly not Holden as he said before the game that he was touch & go for today.
