Anyone stayed near Bristol Airport before a flight? I’m off to Kos with me bestie in September for a week. I don’t want to risk getting a flight from Cork on the same day so plan to fly the day before. So a hotel near the airport will be best. I’ll be on my Jack so a friendly place where I can get a bit of nosebag would be perfect 👌
Four days in Devon this forthcoming weekend followed by nine days during which we will drive to Budapest, stopping at Schwabisch Hall and Sopron on the way, and Rosenheim, Saarbrucken and de Haan on the return leg. Looking forward to both immensely.
Lovely couple of trips.
Enjoy the views on the second one. Last spring, we did Czechia, Hungary, and Austria by rail, and some of countryside views were fantastic.
All went to plan other than staying in Kortrijk rather than de Haan on the way back - happily, as it turned out, Kortrijk is a very pleasant town on a sunny Saturday evening. The best scenery was to be found in Germany, though Austria has its moments. Hungary is mostly plains between the border and BP.
Another week in Devon from June 1st has just been booked, this time free from MiL so we can walk more dog friendly distances
Bit late, but looking at holidays for August time, usually go gozo/Greece type places and book a Airbnb with a pool. Looking for something that won't be mental hot that time of year with a 5 year old in tow. Any suggestions ate very much appreciated as we end up looking at the same places each time. Half of Europe is incredibly hot that time of year so its hard knowing where to look.
Have been Cyprus a few times in August. Once about 20 years ago and it was 40 odd degrees. Was mental heat. More recently about 2 years ago and it was about mid 30s.
Am off to Turkey a week on Tuesday. Can't bloody wait.
Looking to go to Cyprus end of September/beginning of October, anyone got any good recommendations of where to go and good hotels?
Depends what you're after. Kids etc. I've stayed at about 5 of the hotels along the paphos strip. Best ones were The Annabelle, but zero there for kids. Was just pure relaxation. Then the Olympic lagoon. Which was pukka if you've got kids and tbh still good even without kids. We are going to Leonardo cypria bay next year as we have been told its good for the little ones and we got a good deal on it.
If you like the beach there isn't much along that part of paphos so you would be better heading a bit further along to coral bay.

Never been to Cyprus so have no clue what it’s like but always wanted to go and everyone I know who has been has said it’s amazing.
We’ll have a 3 month old so won’t need anything specific for kids but we do like a beach, to be fair that’s normally quite important in previous holidays but happy to stay on the resort too. We like to explore a little whilst making sure we relax enough.
I have looked at the Olympic Lagoon as that is by far, so far, my favourite, but currently a little too far out of our budget.

Thanks for the feedback.
In the Paphos area the only decent beach is at Coral Bay. Never stayed in a hotel there though. Friends who live locally say Coral Bay has recently undergone extensive regeneration and the main strip pedestrianised. We are visiting them next week so I’ll let you know. Lots of decent restaurants there. Personally we have always hired a car and ventured out to tavernas in local villages where it’s more relaxed, less busy, bills are cheaper and you get a better feel of the real Cyprus.
We have been to the Paphos region probably 15 times in the last twenty odd years. We normally hire a villa as we are not into big hotels, all inclusive, lots of kids etc. Plus as said we like visiting the local tavernas especially in places like Payia, Tala etc. Now our friends live out there we stay with them at their Villa in the hills, a lovely spot, fantastic views across to Turkey, cooler on summer days but a twenty minute drive to the coast at Latchi and Polis.
We stayed at a hotel in Paphos late September / early October.
Very pleasant weather. It was busier than we expected with plenty of families with pre school kids (and some who should have been at school!) but very good nonetheless. All very Brit friendly I found without being home from home.
We were at the Kissonerga end. Wonderful sunsets to see.
Been to Paphos about a dozen times mainly for golf. Aphrodite Hills is a great course but must point out that Cyprus gets very very hot in midsummer.
We never go July or August, it's just too hot. June and September the best months in my opinion, bonus being it's less busy as the kids are still at school.

The problem being that most people with children would probably have to go in the school holidays which are the hottest months. Generally though Cyprus has good weather all the year round.
Amalfi/Pompeii certainly lived up to the hype. Absolutely superb. Beautiful walk along the Path of the Gods. Would hugely recommend and at Easter time before it gets too busy

We always go in May half term (wife still works in a school), perfect weather for me, about 26-28, lovely sunshine, the odd cloud which is a welcome break! August is just too hot!
Currently in small, old fashioned hotel in Didim, Turkiye. Clean. Lots of guests are returnees. My 3rd time here. Weather medium, may come later next year.

We now go on holiday with the grandkids in February half term for a week and October half term for 10 nights. Still expensive but far cheaper than the main summer holiday period.
Going to Ibiza in July. But not the "fun" side, 4 kids and going to Seaview Holiday Village. Looks like a spanish Butlins but as i said it's for the kids so i just have to survive 7 days and dream about San Antonio!!!!

Have stayed numerous times at The Grecian Bay https://www.grecianbay.com
Both far enough away from the hustle of Ayia Napa.
Hope you’re having a great time!
