  • Actually, I wonder if we have any Japanese Addicks that could help you?
Are you part of the International fans group on FB? Worth reaching out to see? Just a thought 🤷‍♀️
  • we will be doing a bit more this year after having sadly to put our dog to sleep, anyway since its been a while, I could use some advice. I’ll split them up

    1. Spanish Basque coast, June. We can fly direct to Bilbao but happy to tour around a bit, and I hear wonderful things about San Sebastian. Anyone got advice on that kind of holiday, places, not to miss stuff, what kind of accom to book for shorter stays?

  • 2. Greek islands near to Athens. My wife will have a biz thing in Athens mid Sept so we could take a week after that. Anyone know which are the smaller Greek islands that Athenians rather than tourists head to?

And..its a long time since we were in Greece. Is it still a thing on the islands that your ferry arrives and people are waiting to offer you accom. and it usually turns out well? I guess those days are long gone, together with the tavernas where you are just invited to the kitchen and point to the stuff bubbling away that takes your fancy.

  • 3. For anyone who knows Sicily a bit. If I fly in to Catania in March and just want to chill in a nice place by the sea for a couple of days, before heading off again, (but this time by train ;) ) …any nice places easy enough from Catania that I could drop anchor in?

There is an Island called Agina (see map). It is about 30 mins from Piraeus on the 'flying dolphin'. It used to be the Greek capital. A lot of Athenians go there at the weekend.

Went there a few years ago and loved it, especially as it was quick to get back to the mainland for sightseeing.
  • Algarve in Sept.

Spent a week in Catania in September 22 with my best mate. It's a 'working city' (ie a bit rough round the edges) but we found enough there to occupy us with the addition of a couple of day trips by local buses to Aci Trezza (pleasant and fairly quiet) and Taormina (spectacular but mega touristy). Syracuse to the south looks a fascinating place so might be worth you having a dig into that but we didn't make it that far.
Some of the red wines from the slopes of Etna are fabulous.
  • I ‘m on a tour of Central America and currently in El Salvador. I can’t speak highly of the country. Its probably the safest country in Central and South America to travel in. All the gangsters are locked up and the real people are enjoying their country in peace. I understand that this peace has only really happened over the last year. Am off to the Pacific coast for some beach work 🤓

Haven't been for years, but San Seb has always been a bit of a tourist trap. I like a night there but usually spend more time in Tolosa. Off the beaten track but with loads of decent bars and cafés.

Make sure you get to a sideradia and have the fixed dinner menu which includes cider and sometimes local red. Go hungry.

I'm the only one. Have DMed Damo.
  • I know it’s been mentioned before but has anyone travelled to Thailand without vaccines etc ? Been toying with going but now it looks like I can get the time off work, so wanting to head over next month. Any advice would be appreciated !

  • Needing to hire a car on holiday (in France) for the first time in a few years and a bit stunned to find that I appear to need a credit card. Not a debit card. I haven't needed  to possess a credit card for 30 years or more. They claim it's something to do with not being able to block money for deposit, but surely that's what happens quite often e.g on Booking.com when they take your card details to secure a reservation?

It's certainly the only service I've needed to buy where a debit card - linked to a bank account - was not acceptable.  What a pile of merde.
  • I've never been but a few friends have invited me to Cancun. My vision is that it might be a bit Brits abroad, via a long flight. Am I inaccurate?

Mandatory credit card has been the case in the US for many years when hiring a car.  They put a block / hold on a deposit amount (usually around 1k) which is not possible with debit card (which only uses available funds).  Looks like Europe has now taken note and applying the same rule.

    Yes and no.

Personally really like Mexico but have stayed in Riviera Maya about 90 mins from Cancun in  a super large resort.

Beaches are magnificent with lots of sea life to observe albeit the coast of late is a bit blighted by see weeds and depends on the efforts of hotels to remove daily.

But visits to Tulum and Chichen Itza are well worth it.

I enjoy the climate but some find it too humid.

    Yep - it’s yanks abroad.
  • Yes when we went to that part of Mexico 12 years ago, there were loads of Yanks there. A short weekend hop for a lot of Texans apparently.

It's not great, but then again Tulum which is raved about is just as bad. Ibiza for Yanks, one of the most overrated and unnecessarily expensive places I've ever been to. A beer that cost £2 elsewhere in the Yucatan is £10 there, a 1 mile taxi tries to charge you £25

In that part of the world, Holbox is an amazing place. Island, very little to do there but beautiful, very chill, far cheaper than Tulum (as of 2022) and incredible beaches. Valladolid a nice place to spend a night or two to see Chichen Itza from and see the cenotes. Can hire a moped and ride around easily
  • Am off to Spain in May for a quick tour of duty i.e. a promised visit to friends. San Sebastian, Pamplona, Salamanca and Madrid.

June to July; St Tropez for one month and then SW France for just over a week.

October: Normally in Spain (Gandia) for the month.
  • Iceland/Norway Cruise in summer, Florida around Christmas and have done Jersey over Easter already. Have such a ridiculous number of air miles, may surprise the family with a long weekend in NYC around Thanksgiving this year.

Would have liked to have gone on the CAFC pre-season adventure again this year, but not convinced fans will be allowed to join and think it may be in a camp in Slovenia this year - an area which is a bit of a b*stard to get to, if my hunch is correct, based on what I have been told. Flight + 3 hours on a coach - fcuk that!
  • Off in 3 weeks(from Perth WA) to Berlin, then Madrid and Barcelona.
Just tested positive to Covid, doing my best to infect the rest of the family before it's too late.
  • Spent 10 nights on the Amalfi over Easter. A place that definitely lives up to its reputation.  I have 10 days in Shetland planned in August.
  • Four days in Devon this forthcoming weekend followed by nine days during which we will drive to Budapest, stopping at Schwabisch Hall and Sopron on the way, and Rosenheim, Saarbrucken and de Haan on the return leg. Looking forward to both immensely.
  • Four nights in south east London this weekend. Shaon in Chislehurst on Friday, Cote Brasserie in Blackheath on Saturday - followed by Marty Wilde at the Blackheath Halls - hopefully a pub for the Bromley play off followed by POTY at a certain venue in SE7 on Sunday... Job's a good 'un.  ;):D
Blackheath Halls is a great venue … enjoy

For some inexplicable reason, even though I was " on the door" last year, I managed to miss you & Mrs A...you were clearly SO tanned & sveldt from your new life in the sun that I failed to recognise you both !

Will definitely have a hug on Sunday ! x
