  • Good showing from the new players and they will make a big difference.

But I have little faith in this manager.

But let’s continue to give MA time because he is the only manager in the entire EFL that has had a few injuries.
Said it last week and I’ll say it again, he’ll take us into a relegation scrap.
Didn’t go, didn’t watch on a stream, didn’t listen to the commentary. But the results from the last eleven games paints the picture. Not effing good enough. Appleton is NOT the man to take us to the Championship. The way things are going, there’s only one way we’re heading and that’s into League 2.
  • It’s always very easy to be wise after the event, but anyone who has seen us over the last two months and knows the most minuscule about football would know starting Alfie May up front alone, with floaty Campbells nowhere near him would be an absolute disaster. We’ve seen it just doesn’t work in multiple games.

We have a poor defence that ships goals every game. With no outlet ball available to a physical presence they never get the ball up the pitch long enough to regroup and reshape. With no physical presence, nothing ever falls in the pocket for Alfie May to engage with. With no outlet we then have to persist with this stupid approach of playing to feet from AMB to defenders, which allow the opposition to push men on and press high. We then have defenders uncomfortable with the ball at feet being pressed. This creates mistakes, this stops the ball getting out the final third, this creates tension, this gives the opposition confidence, the ability to smother us and allows their defence a break.

It’s so bleeding obvious. How can a so called manager not see that? Kanu is by no means fully ready for L1 but we saw within 30 seconds what difference it makes to THE OPPOSITION having two strikers pressing them into being loose, making mistakes, shifting the momentum play further up the pitch.

I’m sure he’ll be around for a while and I’ve no doubt it will improve, but Appleton is by far the worst manager so far I can remember us having for a long time.
    Give that man a promote!

  • I'm getting heartily sick of having to watch the away fans celebrate every game.
In the first half they were singing This is a Library we were so quiet, shocked even by the awfulness on show.

The stark reality of our winless run is 5 points from a possible 33! Last week I said I was mildly confident with reinforcements and players returning from injury we’d avoid a scrap at the bottom. If this run continues and we get dragged in amongst it Apple’s got to go and a Warnock type brought in to save our L1 status.
Steve Evans is the man to sort things out.
  • That was harsh deserved something from that , but have to say their 3 front men were the best we faced this season .. we started with 4321 and for 29 mins it was stalemate but then T Campbell just losses concentration and the bloke away , it was a good strike and goal but that one moment . .. the last 15 was difficult but second half we were excellent took a gamble went 4132
We had three/five at the back throughout.

Let’s not be hasty Elfs I’d rather have you and clb running the show 😉

Overall, I think there's foundation for a decent team when everyone's fit and we sign 2 or 3 more players, but I'd be seriously contemplating sending Campbell back and sending Tyreece out on loan after today, neither of them looked up to it at all, and in particular TC looked disinterested and downright lazy
I think that’s harsh on TC. A loan might be good for him but he doesn’t look lazy to me. He does, however, look really low on confidence. Hard to rebuild that with the way team has generally been playing. Hopefully the new signings will breath some new life into the squad and we might see improvements in players like him and Edun
Totally disagreed with Sam when he said ‘TC looked disinterested and downright lazy’ but I’m less sure that a loan will make a huge difference. He’s very slight, and I doubt he can bulk up enough to make a difference. And although he shows flashes of talent they’re few and far between, and I don’t think we can carry players like him if we’re serious about promotion, in the hope that they’ll improve. That’s harsh, I know, but we need to be in a position where players like him and Anderson are nowhere near the starting line up, until they’re actually ready.

Also, a thought about Tyreece Campbell:
Yes, he had a bad game and was dominated by his markers. But I noticed, towards the end of the first half, the camera stayed on him for a bit and the way he was walking around reminded me of the teenagers I teach when they’re pissed off that they haven’t got their way. Huffing and puffing and stomping around pouting and sulking. He was frustrated, but he had no solution.

I think there’s potentially a very good player in there, but he needs help with his mentality. He needs time to mature, but I reckon he could use some help in a sports psychology sense. Learning how to cope with difficult games is essential and he needs to build resilience in this department.
He’s a massive frustration. He should take a good look at the attitude Kanu showed when he come on.
TC is in a bit of a rut right now but I don’t like the way he seems to be getting singled out a bit because there is a player in there and, as we’ve seen before with the likes of Karlan Grant, the attitude of some of our fans isn’t helpful for a young player’s development.

Exiled, there’s no dig intended in any way with this, and I know you are trying to be balanced and sensible. And you’re probably right. But (just my view) there are some things that carry differently being in the stadium than via a stream, particularly a players body language, movement and reaction to phase changes.

The last couple of months Tyreece’s body language has been absolutely awful. That’s really frustrating sitting there as a fan, particularly when things are going so badly. And though I’m not one to ever boo individual players, I can see fully why people react. He’s also been slow to react to possession changes and his reactions to his own mistakes just hasn’t been good enough. He had a fantastic cameo 2nd half v Reading but bar thst he looks a mile away from the promise he showed last year imo.
Fair enough. I guess you pays your money and takes your choice in how much of that you think is down to a bad attitude and how much is damaged confidence. I’m always inclined to give youngsters the benefit of the doubt and try to be supportive in the hope it’ll help them improve.

Kanu is drawing praise today but a couple of matches ago he was being deemed “not up to it” so it can turn around quickly. Hopefully Tyreece finds a spark somewhere.
Kanu is getting praised because of his effort. He's still not ready for this level but because he tries he can still have a positive impact.

Campbell isnt up to it and doesn't try. Needs a loan to Nat League where he can either gain some confidence or have his attitude checked.

Jones been really poor of late… imagine the abuse Hector would have got if he was turning in that level of performance that Jones is.
Gives the ball away so easily, poor for both goals, and missed our best chance.
Which is what I’ve been saying for a few weeks now. I not giving up on Jones, but he’s not quite the defensive lynchpin that some (ok the majority) seem to think, imho.

To me he looks terrified, and out of his depth. He should be nowhere near the starting eleven, and needs loaning for at least the rest of the season.

Shocking first half down to the idiot in charge

Much better with Kanu second half but a mixture of poor finishing and bad defending cost us once again
  • Blucher said:

An abysmal first half in which we stood off Peterborough and admired - from a very respectful distance - their handiwork and passing game. Chen and Tyreece Campbell were particularly ineffective but the whole team was flat and passive, leaving Alfie May totally isolated up front. Not once did Edun or Campbell get to the byline.

We were much better in the second half with Kanu up top and, buoyed by Alfie’s goal, gave it a real go. In the final analysis, Peterborough’s superior quality was always likely to tell and so it came to pass, with their guy running through the practically vacant right side of our defence to slot home.

There were some pluses, including a better and spirited second half, a good debut from Bakinson (who seems to be a much-needed talker, as well as a physical presence), an impressive cameo from Coventry and decent turns from Ness and Kanu.

In the final analysis, though, Peterborough were worthy winners and our lack of penetration down the flanks was a portent of how we’re going to fare if, as appears likely, CBT moves to pastures new this month. This team also remains almost totally incapable of putting together a 90 plus minute performance.

Given that we’re only 2 points above next week’s opponents, Burton - who sit in 19th position - we should not delude ourselves into thinking that we’re not capable of being drawn into a relegation battle. I think we’ll ultimately be ok but our direction of travel is hardly encouraging and we have some very tough fixtures coming up (although every game is tough at the moment). It is very depressing to be even looking over our shoulder towards the bottom of the table but that’s where we are at present.

I hope I’m wrong, but I do wonder if a continued run of poor results will see Appleton out of a job by the beginning of March. The question for the owners, regardless of where we end up this season is pretty simple: is this the man to take us back to the Championship ?

I think the real question is whether this spineless bunch of cowboys running the club are the people to get us to the championship. Appleton has already proved he can manage a club to the next level. Irs fairly predictable where we are at. Beginning of season no leaburn ~ lost every week. Leaburn returned ~ we started climbing the table and winning. Leaburn gets injured ~ we return to losing every week. How exactly is that Appleton's fault?

Silk purses and sows ears ...
  • You know what, if I was MA, based on what sounds to be a decent 2nd half performance I'd put out my best 11 next match and give the youngsters a rest, except for Kanu, unless someone comes in quick who can the target man thing better. Put out my best 11 and set the expectation for total commitment to the cause. there's nothing else he can do.

We will need to get another 2 CB’s then, can’t rely on Thomas and Ness..

    We will miss Hector..
Can't lie, I thought Thomas* was our best defender today, would be more than comfortable with him as a bench option.

He's a proper professional, comes on the pitch and gets on with it.
One game. Normally he's useless, sorry bit unfair, poor.
Normally he’s ok, and he hasn’t had very many bad games at all. He had his best game today thought, when I was expecting the back three to be ripped apart. Ness decent too.
  • Appleton started the wrong 11 - as usual
We got beat - as usual.
He will probably go in Feb, after we’ve played Bolton, Pompey, Derby and find ourselves in a relegation scrap.

Abysmal display all round. 2nd half doesn’t counteract the first half.
We’re closer to relegation than anything else.
We have 3 big games coming up,
    Burton away
Blackpool away (unless there in cup)
    Derby home.
Possibly looking at 1 point if we’re fortunate.

Won’t get anywhere under this manager. He hasn’t got a clue.

If they don’t change it we’re going to be struggling to stay it Shitty league 1.
Northampton at home won’t be easy, they are above us, although saying that so are many others.

I reckon he's got two games. He'll be gone by  Feb. Not a lot out there, so Pearce will come in until the end of the season and the work will begin to bring in a high quality league one appointment towards the end of the season
