Great 1st interview that, more refreshed now after listening to NJ,he is right we need everybody to get behind everything Charlton right now for the start of this journey & then hope against all hope, that this is the time we move forward to fulfill our potential, which doesn’t mean 4th division or plodding along in the 3rd for too many more yrs…!!!
Bang tidy that to be honest, at the end of the day, when all said and done…d'you know what I mean?
I do like the cut of his jib too, keep a clean sheet and score more goals than the opposition will equate to a win. Can immediately get behind that theory!
Will be cheering him and the team on all the way. Seriously, sense he will be the breath of fresh air (with proper skills and nous) we have been craving!
Very impressive 1st interview. I’m going to Reading on Saturday, my first away game for a few seasons, because we need to get behind the team, put the season so far behind us, and ensure we stay in this league. I wouldn’t be going if Appleton were still in charge, I’d completely lost any faith I’d had in him, and that wasn’t much in the first place, and the last five or six home games have been difficult because of that. In Jones I really feel we can look forward with renewed optimism and he wouldn’t be here if he didn’t think the ownership had the ambition he very clearly has.
How I miss those slamming doors. Sliding doors are never the same. The sound of all the doors being slammed shut as the train is about to depart was heaven.
Like Routemaster buses......not everything is progress.
As for Nathan Jones & said interview. Yes, he came across well & at least "gets" being Charlton. Time will tell but its a new slate starting Saturday.
Said to the lad earlier, he'll be here for at least the next 18 months. The next 3 months is a "free hit" really & if we get relegated he can't be blamed (and therefore won't get sacked). I think he'll have all of the 2024/25 season too. If he leaves before next summer it's because he was poached.....or there is a relegation clause in his contract ( in his favour).

Jones has to establish a fighting team spirit from a bunch of players who play like strangers. Individually some of our players sound okay but we don't look like a team.
He came over as a bit calmer, a bit less hyper than previously.
Perhaps that was his break from management allowing him to decompress, maybe that's him slightly reining it in after some OTT comments while at Southampton drew a lot of criticism.
His comments were much more about the club, the stadium, the players, the fans, etc, than about him setting out a philosophy or telling viewers what to expect from their new manager.
IIRC previous managers first interviews or those about them from Scott or Sandgaard have been much more about their respective coaching qualities and experience.
Perhaps they felt Jones' record speaks for itself, unlike Holden and Appleton.
The questions were a bit leading and we don't know what footage wasn't used but it's a club video not Panorama.
Mention of the owners and them being here for long haul was interesting as was his brief explanation of why "manager". He justified that title by his greater involvement in running the club and in recruitment. It sounded like a stance he had taken when negotiating for the job to me and that he got what he wanted. Good.
Andy and Jim got a brief mention but that was it. The focus was NJ and no one else.
He was good at deflecting questions that don't yet have answers ie about his coaching team.
His use of "evolve" suggested to me that next summer will see a lot of ins and outs, as he did in his first summer at Luton, regardless of where we finish.
It was positive and he speaks well but it felt a little restrained to me.
That's fine. While communication with fans is very important, his key role is on the training pitch and during games.
Win five in a row and he can do the post match interviews naked and in Welsh and he'll be hailed as a genius and a character.
Lose one game and he'll be labelled, by some, as a Welsh windbag winker.
"Just win some f****** games" as Curbs was advised when he first took over.
The idea of scoring more and conceding less seems a bit revolutionary but I can buy into that.
Thing I find most interesting is that he was approached when Holden was sacked. Fair enough it wasn't the right time for him but how did we then end up with Appleton?
As other managers said no and Appleton looked a safe pair of hands but clearly wasnt the case!
what's not to like - 100% fully behind the fella and we have to be for the rest of this season when he hopefully keeps us up and then builds for a proper tilt at it next season.
I’m going to mention the R word. Relegation. Of course it’s a disaster but I’ve thought that we had bottomed out as a club for years and yet the slide continued. Maybe just maybe even if the unthinkable happens we now have in place an ownership and manager that won’t get the sack should it happen and after the shock and tears can unite the fan base, rebuild the squad and rebuild the club. I hope the departure of Appleton was that bottoming out and from now on we have a steady resurrection of CAFC. If we have to sink a bit further then I now at least have some hope that we’re able to climb back up the greasy pole.
Feels like we have someone who can really be a figure head
and drive something here. I think whatever happens over the next few months we
have to back him for the long term and see it through or at least give it time.
That is going to take patience form us fans as well.
For far to long we have had a squad of players that have been
able hide and have had an easy ride with the blame on the owner or manager at
the time. Let him do what he needs to do.
Quite inspirational way with words, but what exactly did he mean by “Float like a butterfly, shag like a sheep”?
"Float like a butterfly, shag like a sheep", was a term first heard in Rugby in South Wales where like a butterfly you move down the left, right or centre to gain yardage. Looks manic at times but its the butterfly effect of traversing. When you eventually get over the line in Rugby or in Charlton's case score a goal, you shoot your load; hence the shag like a sheep. Ram bam thank you lamb 🐑

That’s very disturbing
Yes, I agree and so pleased my Maternal Welsh Grandad's family moved to London !
Think of "shoot your load" as a metaphor for elation when you score a try or a goal.
Comments
Richard Burton, Dylan Thomas, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Jones, Michael Sheen and Rob Brydon move over as Nathan Jones is now the quintessential Welshman.
Surely it's time to turn the corner now.
COYRs
One correct use, one slightly off use.
Or just learn Welsh!
Now let’s win a few matches.
He said a win's essential

Saturday will be rocking that's for sure
