England v Iceland - Friendly 07.06.2024

Thought would start thread for tonight's game

Taking our 11 and 13 year old to their first England game.

Presume we are wearing white kit tonight ?

Would like to see him go with the strongest/probable starting line up tonight (sans Bellingham who has not yet joined up with the squad)

  • Also going tonight with 11 year old.

Shame no Bellingham. Hopefully we get to see what the preferred defence is (please no Lewis Dunk).

Dunk is injured so you’ve dodged a bullet

I wonder if we'll see Gomez at full back, given Tripper played an hour the other night and Shaw is still injured.

Also don't really think it's worth playing Pickford, might as well give a run out to whoever he sees as the backup keeper.
  • I'm guessing the team to be

    Pickford

    Walker
    Stones
    Geuhi
    Trippier

    Rice
    Alexander Arnold
    Mainoo

    Saka
    Foden
    Kane

  • wrap Kane in cotton wool - he doesn't need to play in this one, give Tony a game
  • For the Euros, not tonight, I would play Foden & Bellingham as an interchanging 8 & 10. I'd also play Gordon wide right, with Tripper at left back, he will always cut in, so we need someone who is going to play out wide.

I know Southgate won't do that, as he'll play Mainoo or TAA alongside Rice, which I understand as the defence is not great, but save that for the later rounds when we're playing France or Germany. Let's attack the group stages.

                                             Pickford

Walker                  Stones                 Geuhi                   Trippier (until Shaw is fit)

                                               Rice

                                 Foden              Bellingham

    Saka                                   Kane                                 Gordon

Trippier already said in yesterday's press conference that Kane will start. He hates to miss any sort of game.
  • Taking my boys tonight youngest first trip to Wembley
    Going for 6-0 England

    I'd take 3-0 as i've backed England -2 goals at 11-10

That’s not far off the expected starting XI for the first match of the group IMO.

Yep only really expect Saka and Bellingham to come in for Gordon and Palmer.

Oh and Pickford obviously, I missed that Ramsdale was in!
  • Last I saw Aaron Gunnarson was playing in Saudi. He might have retired since then. It would be excellent if they brought him back for a farewell game just to make long throws against England.
  • Cole Palmer in behind the Iceland back line twice in the first three minutes
  • Passing looks crisp and fast.

    Jesus wept.
    Nice keeping Ramsdale.

  • You break our press we are fucked. Really need to sort that CM cos the defence is terrible in them situations.
  • Let the comedy begin...
  • Kane misses the target from six yards out
  • Being bothered about England is even more
    ball crushing than supporting Charlton!
  • Kane misses the target from six yards out
Great ball by Palmer though, at least!

Is Foden even playing? Hardly seen him!

Showing why he rarely gets game time through the middle for England.
  • Is it too late to change the squad?
  • Struggling to stay awake of I am honest.

Absolute borefest and more atmosphere on the moon.
