Thought he was outstanding today. Read the game well, made crucial challenges, was decent on the ball and showed some fantastic leadership and motivational skills

So good in these types of games. Can easily see the difference in quality between the midfields today but ours definitely worked their socks off

Baffling also that Karoy was selected ahead of him for the Millwall game.
  • I don’t find it baffling.

The same happened last season after he put in a string of below par performances, and then he came back and was really consistent again.

Maybe it’s actually decent man management from Jones, knowing how to get the best out of him?

*And that’s not even to say there was just something going on behind the scenes with him which required him to take some time out.

He’s not going to be in the team much longer if we continue to progress onwards next season you’d expect, but he’s proved his value two seasons in a row now and will always be grateful for the part he’s played in our turn around.

Can see why the Hull fans were so nice about him when he joined.

He is commitment, heart and nouse. He has limitations but he works for the team and gets others to do the same. Seems a top bloke as well.

He’s a much better player without the ball than he is with it.

Defo gonna need him for the rest of this season but if we are ambitious then we really need an upgrade

I would agree if it hadn't come in our worst run where we were screaming out for any change in the midfield. Really did feel like he'd been frozen out at the time, as Anderson was playing like a genuine liability

Didn't manage to watch all the game but the bits i did see, Doc actually completed some passes.

    Which was nice.

And got the assist for the goal, despite some thinking he can’t pass.
  • One of my favourite players .

Does what it says " on the tin" ....

Gives his all for the team & is deservedly our Captain.

"Keep on keeping on, Doc !"

Perfect summary of what you get from Docherty may not do it on the ball off it he’s a different level

71% pass completion isn’t shabby. One of those was an assist too.

Kinda is. I can't find the average midfielder pass completion for the Championship but Sonny Carey is on 77% for the season which is the 54th percentile. Doc's % this season is 66.9% which is in the 2nd percentile. He was good for his standards today but bang average by Championship standards. Great he didn't shoot but lets not pretend his assist was an incredibly incisive pass. I love Doc but he is limited on the ball and probably even he knows that!

I’ve never said he makes incisive long range passes but he’s pretty good at a neat close range lay off - assist today and away at Derby immediately come to mind.

Didn't clock the assist was him at the time. Really nice pass
  • He has limitations but is a real battler. I hope we can recruit someone better in the summer but would want him as a squad player.
  • Weird that this seems to be a marmite thread. I can state my case. He is a strong, positive player, gives loads and is under rated for his role. Limitations yes. But we are a budget level Championship Club. MOTM at Southampton when we gained a point. Worthy and justified. Club man

Great bloke. Works hard. Good in games where we're up against it. He'll probably leave in the summer and get booed when he comes back. These days, that seems to be how we thank players who try for us.

I’d keep him in the squad and get rid of Costello. Hope we sign a new starter but Docherty is worth keeping for his leadership and also is very good in these types of games where we have to be more defensive. His best performance of the season was at Sheffield United away, and he’s done well in pretty much all of the away games against the sides with bigger budgets
