Anyone else outraged that this child rapist is still competing? Just seen him get introduced and there didn't seem to be a lot of hostility when his name was announced.

Maybe one of our resident arbiter can come on to give an idea as to why he's even considered for selection in the first place, regardless of the reception he's been getting. Is it considered progressive nowadays?

Nb - For those who aren't aware, In 2014, when he was 19, he raped a 12 year old British girl. He met his victim on Facebook and travelled from Amsterdam to the UK and attacked the girl at an address in Milton Keynes.

I don't know if you're a Rolling stones fan, but check out Bill Wyman and his relationship with Mandy Smith when he was in his 30's and she was only 14.
Because she was tall and it was rock and roll he never appeared to get slagged off or even interviewed by the police ?

Holland, now called the Netherlands with all of its parts had always had a liberal view to sex and drugs.
As many CL members can tell you with their trips to Amsterdam in the past to see the lights; mainly red.

Why Steven Van de Velde only served 12 months of a 4 year sentence when allowed to serve his time in his own Country is a mystery to me but some countries see things differently.

You would've thought a ten year ban after coming out of prison where there are under 16's in a sporting venue would have happened but not in the Netherlands where he had a new start.

I prefer to talk about the Olympic sports but as you asked.

Were the police even aware of it?
Mandy Smith never made a complaint and her mum, who used to accompany her to clubs, encouraged the relationship. (She even had her own affair with Wyman's adult son).
When Smith was of age she and Wyman married.
Doesn't make any of what went before right, but very different situation to the other.
Whether Wyman should be prosecuted retrospectively is another matter, but whether the police could secure enough yo get a conviction?
Rock stars and tennyboppers though is a very big can of worms I think.
Jimmy Page and Lori Mattix for example.
The fact she went looking for rock stars to sleep with and still stands by her behaviour.
    Does that make it okay?
Anyway, let's not derail the thread
  • If you want ring action turn to Eurosport now.
  • This men's all around gymnastics final could be closer than expected as one Chinese gymnast face planted on his floor routine, the Japanese defending champion fell off the pommel horse, and Jake Jarman was top after the first rotation with his floor routine. Long way to go yet though.

And now one of the Canadians has fallen off the high bar because his hand guard broke, and it looks like he's cut his hand in the process. Ouch.
  • Connor hall from Croydon beat his French opponent in the Archery 5-4 in sets.
Tom Hall from Croydon has won against his Indian opponent 6-4 In sets.

Looking forward to seeing Albert Hall from south Kensington next for GB 🏹

  • Women's Archery
Megan Havers just 16 from Leicester has just won
6-0  In sets against a Spanish opponent.

Megan is the youngest Archer in the games.
  • Into the quarter final round in the men’s doubles. What a story it would be if Evans/Murray can win one more match together and guarantee a chance at a medal.

Their quarter final opponent will be either the third seed Americans Fritz & Paul or the unseeded Dutch Haase & Rojer.

On the surface, you’d think you’d want to avoid the American pair but Fritz’s schedule tomorrow includes 3 matches in singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles all before any potential QF the day after.
Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul win 6-3 6-4 and will be the opponents in the quarter final.
  • Mens Archery:
Tom Stanley Hall from Croydon is now against
    Connor Fairfield Hall from Croydon.

    5-5

Tom beats Connor in a  one arrow shoot off and goes through to the 3rd round.
  • Keep thinking that's Johnny Vegas commentating at the gymnastics.

Fritz and Paul are 12+13th ratings in the world at present in the singles but other than Davis cup or this Olympics don't play much doubles in recent years.
Still looks a tough job for Murray and Evans but...

    Wonder if he supports Charlton?

    Probably not.
  • Ram and Krajicek the doubles players beat the Spanish Singles grand slam winners in two sets.
The crowd so wanted Rafa and Alcaraz  to win they did everything to put off the USA pair.

    6-2 6-4

I make her comments right. You gotta be a special kind of wrongen to wanna watch men punch women.
    They aren't men.

Not going to politicise the thread but they aren't transgender athletes. You really think Algeria where homosexuality leads to imprisonment would be sending a trans athlete to the olympics?

I'm not sure they're trans, they might just have a DSD (disorder of sexual development) similar to Caster Semenya. But if that means they've gone through male puberty that gives them a massive advantage in musculature and bone structure, which in a sport based around punching moves the issue from fairness into the realm of safety. The IOC's stance on this has been dreadfully wishywashy:
