I'm not sure they're trans, they might just have a DSD (disorder of sexual development) similar to Caster Semenya. But if that means they've gone through male puberty that gives them a massive advantage in musculature and bone structure, which in a sport based around punching moves the issue from fairness into the realm of safety. The IOC's stance on this has been dreadfully wishywashy:
This debate definitely should be had. But without the terms 'men fighting women' because it's just factually not true and insulting to the people affected.
I think some people are just so irrationally obsessed with transgender people that they exclude all other possibilities from their minds.
I do find it stupid how the Home Nation FA's are happy to work together for the Women to go to the Olympics with Football, but not the Men?
I know its intended to be down to the fear that the likes of UEFA will take it as an opportunity to combine the Nations for the Euros and World Cup etc.
But is it not the same fear for the Women's game?
The women missed out on qualification due to the nation's league. England's result effectively would have allowed a Great Britain team to compete if it was positive, but we are going through a bit of a lull. We can still beat anybody on our day but have lost about 10% from where we were not so long ago.
In terms of Rugby, Fiji have shown the way to go. You need pace and power and France got that but we haven't. I'm sure the sort of players needed are available.
Mandatory for the women but for the 1st time that I can remember, no head guards for the men in Olympic boxing; I wonder why this change has taken place in 2024 ? This would've been discussed with medical experts.

I dont think head-guards were used for men in Rio, they definitely weren't last time in Tokyo, cant remember as to the logic of why they were kept for women. As ever with boxing sadly the ruling bodies decisions make little sense.
I have watched 4 bouts. In each one the person I thought had won lost. Of course it must mean I am not knowledgeable enough, I appreciate that, but it takes away any fun I get from watching it.

I think the rugby shows that even if you can work out a way of qualifying based on England's performances, there's still going to be a problem putting together a UK team once every 4 years when people play every other competition as the 4 individual nations. They've responded to the issue by switching to playing sevens in the top international competitions as GB (I think it's actually GB not UK, for once?) so that the squad gets more used to each other and long term perhaps there's more chance of winning stuff.
I wonder if the national FAs are worried that the public might start to think "hang on, why don't we enter a UK team in the world cup and actually try to win it?" Not so much of a risk now that England are up there challenging for trophies regularly, but back in the 70s or 80s some people might have been tempted.

I believe the reason is that it was found that referees were having to stop bouts for head injuries more often due to head injuries caused by concussion when wearing head guards. There is a cumulative effect which doesn't happen so much when not having that perceived protection. There has been a similar thing in cricket - prior to helmets, batsmen used to get hit far less because they used to watch the ball more and duck or sway out of the way. Now the inclination is to take the ball on and not worry about the consequences because of the protection the helmet affords them.

And I suppose we can look back at Ryan Giggs and Gareth Bale in terms of players who could have pushed us over that line. Also, we could have done with Andy Robertson in the recent Euros IMO. I think most people from all home nations would prefer to see us winning trophies.

But would the other home nations want to lose their teams, for the tiny number of their players who would end up part of the GB/UK team? This summer I can't think of a single Welsh or N Ireland player who would have made a combined UK squad at the Euros, never mind the first 11.
Rugby is different, in that the home nations are more closely matched, as shown by the Lions teams.

Make that 3 golds for Marchand in the 200 metres breast stroke.
History is made with Two individual golds in one session.
Ah well, nobody's perfect.
The year they pretend to have been founded gets earlier and earlier doesn't it?

@CAFCTrev Gold!
I will post the statement made.
